My esthetician says she doesn't like CeraVe because there are alcohols in it. She then gave me a sample of product with fragrance in it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Don't listen to estheticians. From what I've heard and seen they are nowhere near as knowledgeable as actual dermatologists. I've seen so many recommend expensive products with lots of fragrance in them

@@TamaraSanchez01 That depends on the esthetician. Also, you can't trust every dermatologist. Many of them receive benefits from pharmaceutical companies to prescribe certain prescriptions or products. The best thing is self education, which is why Dr. Dray is so great 💕 Coming from an esthetician with a biochemistry degree that worked for a top dermatologist for many years.

I’m an esthetician and I used to work as a laser technician in a medical office and unfortunately, you’re kind of right in a sense. It’s been almost 8 years since I went to school and with each year that passes I start to feel more and more like I was just trained to sell product. I am currently looking into continuing my education, specifically in product development. Basically, it does depend on the esthetician and their dedication to learning the proper information from multiple sources and their ability to make truly informative decisions. Unfortunately, selling product is the name of the game for a lot of technicians. Even ones with PhDs.

Watching your video have helped transform my skincare routine (and not to mention save me more money.) your minimal approach has really changed my whole view when buying products. You have the most trustworthy information on KZfaq. You aren’t afraid of stating grey areas (ie this make work for your, it’s potentially harmful) instead of condemning things as good or bad. I really don’t have the time or money to go to a dermatologist so I truly appreciate your videos

I have avoided alcohols in skincare and makeup for so long because I was mislead by others into thinking they cause premature aging. Searching for products without alcohol caused me a lot of headaches and wasted time. Thank you for clarifying the facts on this issue. I wish I had watched this video sooner.

Cerave Moisturizing cream transformed my skin. I've been using it on wet skin like you've suggested in the past for my face and body and it's so perfect. I used to use five or six products on my face and my irritation and unevenness would never improve until I simplified things and just used this product along with glycolic acid once a week and sunscreen. I never have breakouts anymore!

FINALLY someone that has a clear vision and explanation on alcohol in skincare! I have oily/combination skin (mostly oily) and I’ve been told how bad alcohols are for the skin, and out of fear stopped using the only skincare product that ever really worked for me. Now my face is broken out like it never has in my entire life. After seeing this- back to the product that worked!! Good to know that those quick-drying alcohols aren’t the terrible thing that I’ve been lead to believe they are. Thanks for this!! Hoping my skin clears back up!!

I have normal/dry skin on my face and very dry skin everywhere else. LOVE the CeraVe moisturizing cream and use it head to toe. I'm not irritated by alcohols and since eliminating fragrance from everything I use, my skin is much more comfortable all over. Fragrance did way more harm to my skin. I'm a full convert from using tons of "natural" products with botanicals that come with unsubstantiated claims of being better for you. This was tough to swallow at first, I firmly believed that natural was truly better. Huge wake-up call! :-) My skin thanks you Dr. Dray! :D

Really appreciate this video! I find it that people are quick to bash on alcohols compared to fragrance and essential oils. This is very true, however, like Dr. Dray stated, there are trends, reports, and clinical studies that we also have to take into account, if something has been clinically shown to cause some undesired effect on 80% of people then i think it is safe to assume that most people will stay away even though each person like you stated has unique skins and reacts differently to ingredients, one might potentially be in the 20% of people who would experience good results if they gave the ingredient a try but most people would just skip that ingredient altogether and not take the risk based on the trends.
@cconemac
@cconemac 4 жыл бұрын
@@zamadlamini8413 while your statement is true, I think it's important to point out that sample size is important. Maybe the study tested on 100 people and found in 80 it was ok. So they might say 80% percent of participants had no response but there are over 6billion people in the world and so there is likely no way 100 people are representative of human skin heterogeneity.

Hi I try to avoid alcohol denat or SD in my products, as I have eczema and very dry/mature/sensitive skin. Fatty alcohols have never been an issue for me. The LMW alcohols just make me drier or sting if used near my eyes (sunscreen). Having a very small amount at the end of an ingredient list is fine (used as a preservative), but not high on the list. Most skin care products targeted at eczema prone skin contains fatty alcohols, so it would be almost impossible to avoid. The internet can be a confusing place re ingredients. The latest buzz is about not using oils - as someone who doesn't produce enough sebum I need oils in my skincare (especially in the winter). I'll continue to use a balance of hydration/moisture/occlusives in my skincare to keep my skin comfortable and healthy. Many thanks for continuing to debunk the skincare myths floating about the internet.

As a child I never understood, but I never really got to wear makeup growing up. Drs, didn't explain very well, they just gave me the ALCOHOL names and said "good luck kid". THANK YOU for explaining it, and why it's in products for other people. I always greatly appreciate your long hard research time and video efforts ♡♡

Hi! Dr. Dray I'm really loving your videos and you. I'm from Philippines and I notice that 9 out 10 teens like me have acne. Can you recommend some products that suit us. More power Dr. Dray.

*Dr. Dray could you please do a video on over exfoliated skin and how to heal it! Even though I have a solid skincare routine now thankfully because of you... and had a pretty good skincare in my teens, I still have the damage left from years of using harsh scrubs/exfoliants almost daily thinking it was helping my dry flaky skin🤦‍♀️...and because of that certain areas on my skin now has this odd look and feel to it almost wax like.*

You are amazing, you've helped me so much with my skin! I have a question tho, how important would you say that the PH of products are? I was looking at a new hyaluronic acid gel (the chemestry brand) with a ph of 7.5 - 8.0, is that a cause for concern? Would love to see a video about the effects of the products PH on the skin!

Like a few months ago i discovered one of my products had alcohol debat. and I freaked out but than I thought about it for a minute, and said to myself "I've been using this for like 2 years now with positive results, so why should I care?" and to this day one of my favorite products. Skincare is very personal so usually you just have to find out and test things for yourself.

I bought the Neutrogena blackhead eliminating toner that has BHA and denatured alcohol.i'm not irritated by it what so ever cause it has some moisturizing ingredients as well and is even a bit hydrating for me! I just avoid alcohol in my other skin care cause that one has a good amount in it already :D

as always, great to get a purely science-based, balanced view on another skin-care villain =) I've just spent almost an hour trying to explain to someone that a 'chemica'l insect repellent (she's going to the tropics) isn't necessarily worse than 'something natural'. While it actually works. Where does this strange notion that natural is always better and the pharmaceutical industry is trying to kill us even come from?

You are so kind for sharing your knowledge on here. I just had a facial yesterday and was so lost while she was trying to sell me $70-$200 products. I saw ecytyl alcohol in the one exfoliator and it made me think is this bad? I didn't have the money anyway but still, they push these products on you and you don't know if it's any good or worth that price point

Thank you Dr. Dray..wow I was thinking last night about la Roche serum irritation and there u posted this vid. I have been using La Roche effaclar serum since one month and always find it very tingling and have been using this every alternate day with just a moisturiser on top. Do you think I should minimise it two just two days initially or should top up with some heavy moisturiser..

I love fatty alcohols in my conditioners and skin care (very dry skin, dry hair lengths). I do try to avoid straight up alcohol (often in more natural products). I can't for instance put a deodorant with alcohol on my armpits as it burns. In fact I can't tolerate alcohol on any other part of my body. It has to do with my health condition (CRPS, complex regional pain syndrome) as my nerves are all out of whack, not to mention my entire nervous system. It is what it is. I have been paying attention to ingredients for a long time. Thank you for this video. I found it very useful. :)

@@DrDrayzday thank you so much! I think it is amazing that you know the condition, as it is a rare disease. Not many doctors know about it, in my experience! It started in my knees for me (dashboard injury) and by the time they discovered it, we were almost 3 years further in time and it had spread to both legs fully. It could no longer be treated successfully. I just have pain relief these days and was diagnosed with severe, disabling, chronic CRPS. I have had this since age 23, and am 47 now. I have good doctors now and an excellent pain program (gabapentin/buprenorphine). The pain is horrendously high.
