It's pretty obvious to me that the most dangerous alien creature in this film is Betty. She has a superhuman ability to convince anyone that anything she says is true; I bet she came to this planet to hide amongst a less-advanced species and conceal her ability. But then Derek and crew showed up, and faced with the prospect of finding yet another planet of people who look and speak just like her, she instead resorted to her ability in order to save her adopted homeworld, Earth. That's why she's so credulous when it comes to what Derek tells her- she's seen this all before!

This movie was a virtual life saver for me when I was 5 back in the mid 60's. I was trapped with my mom, aunt, and other cackling broads in an old house. They had daughters, so they only had 'girl toys' laying around. They turned on the TV to shut me up, cuz I was bored to tears. This movie was on, and was high entertainment for a little monster kid. The MST3K version is still my favorite.

I've watched this movie several times. I even bought a magazine a few years ago that details the making of the movie, which is a really interesting read. The writer and director of this movie was a terrible failure and he eventually became nuts. He ran investors into debt, he was a closeted gay man, and himself ended up bankrupt and in debt, pretty much homeless. He then turned to Christianity to try and convert himself into becoming straight and claimed he was Jesus. After so many failures, he committed suicide. Also the cute actress in the movie, "Betty", is still alive. I'm missing out a ton of other interesting stuff, like the houses they filmed in were real people's homes they just asked if they could use for a day, and really low-budget stuff like that. I've also visited the house with the skeleton in the swimming pool. It's in Hollywood, only minutes away from the famous Grauman's Theater. Peace out!

Thanks for this, a fun video and believe it or not this is actually one of my favourite movies of all time. I'm serious! Originally I thought it was the funniest bad movie I'd ever seen. A real gem worthy of MST3K-style ribbing and it still is. But in the years (and countless viewings) since then, and having learned more of the romantic and tragic Ed Wood-like history behind the making of it (a lot of which was missed here), I've come to appreciate it in a more serious way for what it was trying to do and be. It's got a truly fascinating history, and is well worth checking out. And remember, we can mock the masking tape on the uniforms and how cheap the effects are. But then, the Terminator's eyeball was made from tinfoil, a cheap bulb and a cigarette, Star Wars used bubble wrap on snowspeeder seat belts and Klingon sashes were made from velcro in Star Trek. Tight budgets necessitate creativity, especially in sci-fi. Sometimes it pays off and sometimes not. But you've got to give them credit for trying.

So what was the little book? Hungarian phrasebook? "Betty, my hovercraft is full of eels." "Sure thing Derek." "No wait. I mean, my flying saucer is full of lobsters."

This is one of those films where the making of it and the result of it are far more interesting than the film itself. And not just because the film is brain-meltingly dull; it’s a genuinely interesting story!

@@BGNOLA Yes, and supposedly that stilted cadence to Derek's speech wasn't part of the act, he just talked that way. And before Tom Graff took his life, he paid to have a billboard proclaim himself the second coming of Jesus.😯

I once made those cheddar biscuits at home, and this chick at work would not believe that I made them, she thought I got them from the restaurant.

I was so excited to see this! Love this movie! 😂 love the show! Might I suggest a super weird but hilarious flick? Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills. It's a 1989 movie, and more people should know about it! Thanks for the laughs!

I think this movie is included in full on the video game Destroy All Humans! as an extra. Getting a movie for free is a pretty sweet deal, especially if it has giant plastic lobsters in it.
