When I was younger I lived in Europe, and I had a good friend from Sweden through him I met other Swedes, and a few Swedish women. The women I felt were some of the nicest I had ever met, and there were a few I had crushes on as well.

When I first started learning Swedish I heard the song “dunka mig gul och blå” and since it means paint me yellow and blue I thought it was a patriotic song. It was definitely about rough sex and blue and yellow is how you say bruises instead of black and blue like in English. It was a funny mistake I also told my cousin I didn’t think my uncle was excited to have me visit but the word I used for excited she said had a very sexual connotation and so I shouldn’t say it that way lol 😂

I love the conversation with your grandma 🤣. In Italy we also use "ti voglio bene", and I always have hard time translating it. It s like "I care about you", you usually use it with friends or relatives. Also with partners, but it s less strong than "ti amo".

I never would have thought Daniella would have a Spanish grandma. Spanish is a very lovely language! I love listening to Latino Urban pop. It was a hard decision but have decided to stick to just Swedish and Russian for now. Maybe in a few years, I will try Spanish again.

Even though i'm a Swede i never heard the name of that cake 'kärleksmums'....'love yummies'....that's so cute....both in Swedish and English. Of course i'm gonna use those names from now on. One of my favorite kakes. Great with Swedish coffe.

Working in a Swedish company, I've definitely encountered issues were English words mean one thing to me, but something VERY different to my global co-workers. I don't know what the spelling would be in Swedish, but the English word "mushy" is not something to just say in front of people!

Hahaha, don't do that in Germany either. I don't know about Swedish but in German it refers to female genitals. But we have our misunderstandings with Swedes too. When we say "Knüller", we mean sth like a dandy or crackerjack. They clearly don't! The other way round, "ficka", or also "jag fick", leads to similarly uneasy (or amused) reactions from Germans 😄

I grew up in Canada so, I learned English and French growing up. Russian was something, I started learning later on. I did want to learn more Swedish because of friends, I met online but when, I was in high school in my country, there was not the resources available like now to learn Swedish.

Jag vet inte om jag är en extra känslokall Nordbo, men jag säger inte "jag älskar dig" åt någon annan än min partner. Det skulle bara kännas konstigt att säga det åt mina föräldrar/syskon/kompisar etc.

Minns from "Minnas / att minnas" means to remember, or keep in thought of. Finns, "finnes / att finnas" means there is (physically, talking about location) or even exists!

Saint Valentine was a Christian catholic who,lived during the Roman Empire . he was imprisoned, tortured by the romans , and martyred there on February 14, 269. So Valentine’s Day is a celebration of him . It’s a Christian catholic tradition .
