Love your reminder that "practice makes PERMANENT"! I was taught "perfect practice makes perfect". The US Navy Seals have an expression... slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Thanks for all you put into this!

I’ve been keeping up with this current beginners course and really enjoying it. Just bought your beginners course book and the 2 songbooks to go along with it, really hoping it’ll help improve my strumming and keeping time as that’s what I’m struggling with. Such a great course and teacher, thanks man.

Justin. Keep those regular guitar tips coming. We know those small changes that we do can make a huge difference in how we perform overall.

I have a question !! How long will it take me to do the A and D chord change smoothly so I can move in to strumming ??
@miles_ani
@miles_ani 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think anyone will be able to answer this question. My advice: Don't rush things. Trying to rush it will most likely kill your motivation. Enjoy the journey. If your fingers start to hurt, do something else. Practice regularly, but don't practice for too long. Also, don't take any lessons or advice as a fact or as the best way to do things. Enjoy the journey. I first started mostly with theory. But after a few months I got bored, so I started playing songs. Now I've been mostly playing songs and I notice that I've been really enjoying it, but I hardly make any progress. So I'm stepping down from that a bit and I'm now focussing more on learning the theory and perfecting my chords. From this video I've learned that I tend to rush things myself. I try to play things as fast as possible which makes me sloppy and inacurate. My playing is also extremely inconsistent. Sometimes I have trouble playing the A and D chords properly because i've rushed them and thought I was able to play them well even though I wasn't. So now I need to fix my bad habits which will probably take a lot of time. Have I been wasting time with my approach? I don't think so. I play guitar purely for myself and I don't want to perform on stage. I did the things I enjoyed doing even though it wasn't the best approach. If you enjoy to perform for others and play as smoothly as possible then I'd really suggest taking your time perfecting things. Do you 1 minute chord changes and also practice the chords extremely slowly so you can train both your speed and precision. Unless you got a deadline for a performance I'd suggest you to don't think about how long something may take. This is also different for everyone. Just enjoy the journey :) I wish you good luck, and I hope my advice has been useful. If you disagree with anything I said (or someone else disagrees) feel free to tell me. Preferably with some arguments. We could all learn from that :)

@@vanillaa01 begginer here and I'm restarting (again!) at stage 4. Remember...practice makes thing permanent...so practice with clear mind and focus with it. No noodling around. Or you will be me who can't even do all open chords for 6 months and restarting bad picking hand.

@@zaidanp7258 .... I am only like on the 1st stage ...... I give like a month to each chord .... Cause I want it to be PeRfEcT .... But I am scared that it won't come out as good as I thought ... I give it half an hour each day ... I thinks it's too less ... What will I do if I fail ? All I think about is I have to PeRfEcT this or I'll never move on to any vocal stuff or other things .... Now I am learning to strum on one .... My parents say it's good but what if .. it's bad .. I would turn out to be a loser ...

What is a good way to train your fingers to stay closer to the strings. I anchor my baby finger on the pickguard while strumming my thumb pulls away and my fingers lift off the strings ( kind of like landing gear on a plane after takeoff).

Is there anything you'd recommend as a practice like this for someone who's doing finger picking, like for classical guitar? I'm not using a pick most of the time.

Wouldn't it be more natural to do 2 down picks in a row when starting here? down on the C and then down on the open D before starting to alternate? does it matter?

Justin, C and D are two musical notes correct? How would you coordinate these notes and symbols for a song using the C o v i D - 19? These letters and symbols should be taken to make a hit song. Call it a song of the times.
