i suspected this might bomb, and i went to see it in theatres partially for that reason. really good film from Ridley, just wish he hadn't strayed from reality as much as he did. still, one of the best of the year, and I'm sure he made up the difference with House of Gucci.

@@Anon-nv7bp The true story would've been more interesting and might have piqued people's interest more. It also wouldn't have been necessary to have a rape scene which seems to have turned off a lot of people since it was never proven that a rape occurred.

@@billiey36 very very true. even though I liked the film, it was quite dissapointing how much was changed, and how Jodie's character was basically a 21st century modern woman insert, the court room scene was a modern insert, the threat of her burning was made up, like you said the rape was never definitely proven yet is shown twice in the film for irritatingly long periods of time (seriously who wants to spend 10 minutes watching r*pe on screen?), the husband ended up being a hero for 10 years in France following the duel - which is completely ignored by the film. A lot of mistruths, and things were left out which would've made the film a lot stronger. As proven by The Last Duel and House of Gucci, Ridley scott favours telling a story he likes over historical accuracy.

I enjoyed it. It wasn't my favorite thing ever but I thought it was really well done. Good characters and acting, a solid story, I wish it did better than it did

Yeah, just like The Wizard Of Oz and The Princess Bride became successful, classics, and big hits after their flops in theaters

I don't mock his anger after seeing The Last Duel. If I spent this much effort into a movie only for people to dismiss it over the new Venom sequel I'd also yell my lungs out xD
