FINALLY!! A channel that talks about computer tech from a creator point of view rather than just gaming. It's so wearisome that everyone else seems to think people are only using their computers to play games and to see performance charts and graphs based on how well a system will run Fortnight, etc etc. Please keep up the content, it's much needed and appreciated. That’s a big reason why there are so many advances in graphics cards and processors because that is where the majority of the market is and that would explain why so many reviews are gaming focused.

@@infiniteblaz3416 Yep I agree. I have a 5900x only because they took an extra $100 off it so I got it at $250 out the door. I have two 5800x in the house on my son's 1440p system and a MediaPC w/ 6700xt for a 4k/5.1 surround living room. My daughters,wife,2 other media PC's all rock 5600/5600x.

For me is worth it. I use my pc for music production and video editing, and light gaming, at first I was using a ryzen 7 3700x. But now I got my hands on a Ryzen 9 5950x, and let me tell you, the difference is day and night, I can move faster without having to wait 15 minutes to render a 4K video, now I can get it done in 5 minutes, and then move to my next project. I got the 5950x over the 5900x because the extra cores, I use so many plugins and virtual instruments while I'm mixing a costumer's project, such like compressors, pitch plugins, reverts...ect. the type of plugins that I use can max out to 100% an 8 core CPU easy, plus having to mix the vocals in the same project really put a lot of stress on the CPU some people masteries and mix the beat on one project and then use the whole beat and move to another project to mix it with the vocals. But that's not efficient and time consuming, because if lets say that you finish the whole project like that (mixing the vocals ) and then want to make some changes to the beat only, then you have to go back to the old project (if you haven't delete it) and then make changes to the beat, and then mix it again with the vocals. That's time consuming. But with this beast of a CPU I can mix the beat and the vocals in the same project and my CPU will handle the load. The load of a game is nothing compare to this type of projects. One more thing if you just planning on making beats, an 8 core CPU will be just fine, but when you start getting into the more professional aspect of music, you will need expensive software, and hardware. ( in case some in the comments be like: "oh but 8 core is just fine for music") no is not, if you work professionally and time is money.

I have a 3950x and the main purpose of my machine is rendering utilizing cpu render engines. The extra cores make a very notable difference for me. Honestly If it were not for that need I would probably not have the 3950x and would have went for a cpu with fewer cores. The multitasking capability is also a benefit. I have a 360mm AIO on mine. When I run my renders under full load with all 16 cores I hit around 70c in temps.

Every one of your videos I have watched has answered at least one question I have had in the back of my mind. This one leads me to think that when I upgrade my 3900x, I will probably go for the (supposedly coming soon) 5900xt (or whatever they call it), not the 5950xt. At 4k editing and a tiny bit of gaming, I do not need the extra cores.

Video and photo editing is only part of what I do; as well as looking to keep my new rig for at least 9 to 10 years as I did with the one I just replaced built in the spring of 2012. With this in mind, the $250 difference now is worth it to me, as it is $25.00 / year or $2.10 / month. Look at your long term investment and if possible, resale or reuse (file server, etc…) when you upgrade again.

One use case for the higher cores/ threads would be software development with multiple vms/ containers/ clusters. A typical setup might be one cluster/ 2 nodes for each of database, web server, internal queues and cache stores, distributed storage, monitoring tools etc. It can easily put 10-12 cores to use and leave 4 cores for other tasks like web browsing including youtube/ downloads/ photo editing. So basically the use case for a 5950x over a 5900x is as a low cost Threadripper 😀 Now, the clusters could also be rented out on AWS or Azure, but there are people who would like to run prototypes locally without involving a 3rd party.

Great video! I am still thinking about upgrading to one of these. On the other hand m1x is just behind the corner. My mate got m1 mb pro and playback performance is amazing without the need of getting into proxies/optimized media. I am still running on 1080ti which has limited support for hardware decoding. Getting 3080 (whatever the ti/lhr/etc version) still cost ~2k $ here, which is the price of the m1 mb. On top of that you can take it anywhere with you. I can't do it with my 20kg rig :P.... tough decision to make - I only work with video, davinci resolve.

Stay tuned regards the M1x stuff, reviews and tests coming out on the channel. But right now I can suggest you think if you need the editing on the go or not, coz if you don't you can get a LOT more powerful stationary PC that wipes the floor with M1, not sure what the M1x will look like yet, stay tuned :) But since you're using Resolve, which is well optimised for M1, it's not a bad contender, so I understand your frustration :)

@@theTechNotice I wonder if Apple paid Blackmagic to optimize Davinci for OSX/M1 chip. Other companies did similar things in the past, like Intel with “Cripple AMD” :P But putting aside conspiracy theories, I guess with new Apple silicon, developers had to deal with a single chip only. We could as well try to compare games on PC vs consoles running on the same hardware, where console games can be optimized as they don't have to run on X number of different cpu's, gpu's, mobo's combos, so it must be more difficult to optimize software for windows/linux, given the various hardware these OS's are running on. Back to your question, is mobility a must? no, but it would be nice add-on - I could sift through entire footage while sitting outside on the sunny day, then go back inside and continue edit on the proper monitor. At the end of the day I will have to make a choice - I expect 5900x to be 1/5th of the price of the 14/16" m1x Price difference could cover new camera body, upcoming mavic 3 pro, you name it

I really enjoy some of these comparison videos. At the end of the day it comes down to how the individual user is going to use it. I myself, will be going for these 16-core variant because I do a huge amount of multitasking and the extra cores are definitely going to help with that. About a month ago, I upgraded my Ryzen 5 3600 and b450 mobo to a 5900x and an Aorus Master B550 mobo. The uplift was massive. I considered the 5950x, but these days the 5900x is available for around $340 USD, while the 5950x is around $550 USD, and the extra spend didn't seem worth it. I was afraid to watch this video, for fear that I'd end up regretting not spending the extra money for the 5950x. I'm relieved to see that I probably made the right decision! Very glad to see the perspective of a creator - the 5900x and 5950x are almost certainly overkill for gaming, but for video editing/exporting/converting, it makes a world of a difference. Also regarding cooling, I can largely confirm what you've explained in the video. I started with a Thermalright Peerless Assassin SE, and under extreme artificial loads like Cinebench, max temps were around 81 C. That btw is WITH PBO and CPB enabled. For reasons that aren't terribly interesting, I ended up swapping that out for a Corsair 360 AIO, and under the same load my max temps are around 80. The temperature differences are negligible, but the sound difference is night & day. The AIO runs so much quieter than the air cooler did.

Now that the new Ryzen 4 are about to come out, I was really thinking of upgrading my 5900x to the 5950x but the more comparison videos I watch, the more I realize I don’t need it. If that moment ever comes when I do feel I need it, I will definitely do the upgrade. I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s sun $400 at that point. I have a question, do you think it worth upgrading from a 3080 ti to a 3090 ti?

I just picked up a 5950x for roughly the same price I paid for my 5900x in November of 2021. Cooling it with a Noctua U12a, but I strapped Phanteks T30's to it with Kryonaut Extreme and it's running really nice. 64gb ram at 3466mhz on an AsRock X570 Razer Edition. RTX 3060 ti currently, but hoping to get a 4070 soon. The processor was more important imo.

I built my PC back in 2019 right before the pandemic and paid around $200 for a Ryzen 7 2700x that was on sale and just upgraded to a 5950x this week after a 4 year wait, performance is really good especially since I've been getting into Video Editing and Game Design projects on Unity and Unreal Engine for school, but also I can game comfortably with 50+ Chrome Tabs open! Since this is the last CPU I'm buying for AM4, I decided to splurge and go all out, especially for the extra cores when running the editing and game design software and other various tasks and programs/applications in the background when gaming at the same time possibly since it is a future-proof precaution in-case if those extra cores and threads would come in handy in the future

12 core vs 16 core is now (June 2022) only $150 difference. If your building a working machine to do actual multi core work - it's worth the $150. If you're building a game box, you only need a AMD Ryzen 5 5600G and put the extra $369 you save into buying a better GPU Graphics video card. That's about it. :-) The Ryzen 5 5600G also is a 65 Watt chip, saving you money on electric and cooling vs the 105 Watt 12 or 16 core CPUs.

With a Noctua Dh-15(1 fan only) and 6 intake fans, the 5950x at no fixing settings, everything auto boost, gets 75-79c with 11 of my cores hitting 5,1ghz and the rest at 4,7 mostly.

To be honest the Lian Li 011 is not a very good case for aircoolers. I ran it in the Corsair 5000d which has direct intake to the cooler and I had no problems. In the 011 air has to bend and it doesn't work very well with aircooled towers.

Again what you want out of the system matters, actually I am wondering if the extra up front for the additional cores could possibly extend the life of the system by a couple of years hence justifying the extra cost. Used to be that was not as big of a question when a pretty good low top tier system was $2000 or so dollars, just build an all new one in a couple of years. But as the cost has continued to rise to build a nice system paying that bit more for a chip that really is above a users current days needs and installing the next higher normal amount of ram such as 64gb vs 32 gb will it be the difference needed to extend the systems life span as an enjoyable to use system for say 2 extra years make the added few hundreds of dollar investment a smart move overall? I am sort of bouncing that around as I write this post actually.
