1:10 you are brainwashed by China govt propaganda. The China govt have done so many wrong things, killing 10s of millions of people in the past. And now, you can forgive them. They should at least be disbanded to be responsible for wrong things they have done. And let people choose to set up a new govt. They are still doing that to a few people. For example, keeping 48 persons in Hongkong in prison forever without trial.

i know this guy is a CIA operative, but I laugh at this killing 10s of millions of ppl thing, poor policy decisions leading to deaths of millions of their citiziens is like America denying its ppl of healthcare causing millions of deaths every decade. Thanks for a good video. In the US anyone can become a presidential nominee ... even incompetent idiots who should not have access to the power of that office. In China, anyone can join the Party, but must earn the right through results and skill in order to be promoted. The US and its politicians are controlled by the military industrial complex. It prospers by corralling taxpayers' $'s on a constant narrative of fear and bullying. US society has over time lost its sense of happiness and become more and more paranoid and divided. Chinese culture is about sharing prosperity and continuous improvement...and it shows.

So thankful that your channel exists. Providing some much needed balance.When i talk to friends and colleagues in the UK about China it's so frustrating. They have preconceived ideas about what life is like there.Generally its a negative view and it seems like they have no interest in hearing about the reality of life in this amazing country.

I'm in the opinion that China is one of the countries that really work hard to eradicate poverty and improve their people lives. But China in particular is really remarkable because it makes huge progress just within decades. Obviously, China spends its money well in broad aspects

I hv watch many of your vlogs. I used to live in Scotland for 9yrs, now a resident of Aus. So disappointed with your Urumqi vlog! I just returned and am so impressed, had to get used to the dryness and the dust! Luckily we avoided the dust storm. U r quite close to the ancient city, yet showed nothing of that. God not another upmarket shopping centre, so soulless! The old city has so much character and new experiences….Kashgar has even more Uyghers so interesting! There’s no need to treat China with kids glove. They hv many problems and trying to solve it their way.

I think it's about mentality and perspective. The Chinese are pragmatic, they strive to develop, to improve, to make everyone's life better financially. That means China puts practical and wisdom as priority. The US , however, driven by emotion, by jealousy , they rather spend a large budget to badmouth someone doing better than them, than co-operate with that someone to achieve a win-win situation. This is also true in the mentality and stance of some company policy and human relationship in that country; recently my friend working in Tesla California was being laid off. Funny she has been the top salesperson for the past two years. She is Chinese and she saw many being laid off over the years, but she thought she was safe because she sold the highest number of cars every month. I warned her be aware, then the bomb dropped to her, I said many were jealous of you and even some managers would take side but she didn't listen, so here we are, emotion runs first!

Why hate? Let me relate my college days. Many American students absolutely hate having the same class with many Asians because they will most likely can kiss their grades goodbye. The Asians will always elevate the bell curve and getting good grades become much more difficult. Asians study too damn hard.

Iain, you wonder and ponder about the mindset of the West compared with China's. Here is my warp input. I am not sure if it is in the Anglo-Saxon's (read white people) DNA but fighting and wars is the norm. One only needs to look at European history to note they have constant wars amongst themselves when not fighting against the Muslims (reference Crusades). Hence, one should not be surprised that USA, being a country made up of mainly European immigrants, retained that warring DNA. One other hand, the Chinese loves nothing other than peace and harmony. Indeed, Chinese people look up to their leaders (emperors, warlords, etc.) to provide peace and stability to maintain progress in Chinese thousands of year of in its civilization. Hence, whenever peace is not forthcoming (mainly due corruption), the leaders lose their 'mandate of heaven' to rule, resulting in a change of dynasty. This is the main difference between the East & the West. Until the West understand the Chinese mindset, they will assume China will adopt the same Western quest for hegemony, something completely alien to China. Just study the voyages of Cheng Ho (the 13th C mariner) who reached the east coast of Africa without interfering with the countries he came across.

@For All Life's Adventures - Yeah, the UK government's been pretty wonky since Brexit, hasn't it? Seems like they've been struggling to get their act together. And the global situation's looking pretty dicey these days - the geopolitical tensions are even more tense that how it was before WW2 to be fair. I mean, just look at Biden - everyone I've talked to agrees the guy's practically senile at this point, and it seems wrong to see a man like that pushed into the limelight and forced to speak and lead the superpower of the world... Seems like his staff are really calling the shots now. So who's really in control of the world's superpower, you know?.. lobbyist groups? who even knows, eh! Madness!!! And then you've got Israel eyeing up Iran - that's just asking for more conflict, isn't it? Feels like we're headed for an east vs west, or even Western world vs Global South majority situation. Crazy times, man. China's starting to look like one of the more stable places right now. They seem to have their priorities straight, prioritizing public safety and cleanliness. Though who knows what'll happen when AI reaches that sentient level, eh? We're living in some wild times, that's for sure!

Yeah, things are at the most tense that I have ever experienced in my lifetime… but very few people get it. I wonder if it was like that before WW2 and people were like.. “eh, what, a war and I have to go fight in it?” People are more informed but I get the feeling the reaction will still be the same, ignorance is bliss for some people. As for A.I!! The more I read into it the more I fear and celebrate the fire in that respect 🫡 😬

We know that these governments are not popular and hence we can deduce that the people knows that these governments are making the wrong choices. I am unable to understand why there is no strong social action/ force to change the direction of the governments in UK and the USA. Are the people too pathetic and lazy? Is it the structure? I live in Canada which depends on

I think people are just so heavily influenced by the media… most people only consume local or national mainstream media and that’s enough for them. They don’t get the full perspective that a curious person would get.

to be honest, no country makes decisions based on morality only. the problem is, present universal international morality is mainly based on post ww2 orders, post cold war order and anti colonialism idea. the US had policed this order for a long time, and claimed this is the only right way and pretended what they do are all based on morality. China is one of the victors of both ww2 and cold war, and this order has been beneficial for China a lot. but suddenly the US find themself outcompeted by China in this system, so they dont want to keep this order any more. to contain China, the US and the west have broken many rules. I think this is why some western people like you, find its very hard to accept what the west is doing to China. this is why their morality high ground is collapsing.

What a well-balanced and well-put together video, Iain. I agreed with everything you said. You are a well-meaning and intelligent man with good communication skills, and you get your message over very well. I think much of today's problems are because we are seeing the hegemonic power (US) in relative decline and a new rising power coming up. The US is trying everything in its power to stop this. A military option is out of the question, as the Chinese economy is growing too large. The US understands this, so it is resorting to every trick it can find in a futile attempt to stop China from rising to be the pre-eminent economic power on the planet. The US is trying every way it can to undermine China. It has tried sanctions, and it lies constantly about China having a bad human-rights record and even tries military intimidation. It will take a while to iron itself out, and hopefully, without a world war, but eventually, the West will have to accept that China will rise to be the biggest economic and most advanced power on the planet-let's just hope they achieve it peacefully.
