Fun Fact: Forrest elbow is named after a motorcycle racer who ground his elbow of on the ground whilst cornering. He didn't even know he'd done. The question was asked 'where is Foreets elbow", the answer was, he left it at the end of Conrod, yes the end as bikes use to race the circuit in reverse.

Van Gisbergen won the NASCAR race in Chicago earlier in the year, and he and Brodie Kostecki were in the NASCAR race at the Indy Road Course this past weekend.

There were 11 previous winners on the grid that year, not 11 winners since it started. There are two drivers per car at Bathurst as driver changes are mandatory. The fastest 10 qualifiers do the 1 lap shootout on Saturday to determine pole position. The pole winner may be the fastest on Saturday but over the full 1000km race on Sunday many things can affect race position such as pit stops, safety car periods, mechanical issues, animals on track etc.... so winning pole is nice but not really an advantage. Back in the 70's, 80's and 90's it was mainly Ford v Holden (General Motors) and they used to say "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday".

Yep, 11 previous winners on THIS NEXT STARTING LINE GRID. There's been a lot more winners over the years. One thing that should also be added, is each car has two drivers. Each car during the normal season has a single driver. It's THEIR car. But for the great race, they need to find someone to partner up with and they do driver changes during the race. Sometimes if a tram has two cars / drivers, they may elect to put both drivers into the same car, but most often they look for other drivers either from the lower performing teams or from another a feeder series. Some teams will have their V8 Supercar crews, but also crews operating in the feeder series to train up new drivers, so they can use those drivers. That means, you often have a mix of the BEST proven drivers along side up and coming, but somewhat inexperienced drivers. The teams then need to manage who starts the race, who finishes the race and when they need their most experienced driver behind the wheel, with rules on each driver completing X many laps overall, between driver changes etc.

Those 11 drivers that have won at Bathurst, is since 1993 with the introduction of V8 Supercars. In 2023, the Supercars Championship Series consisted of 28 races across the 12 events; with competitors completing nearly 5400km of racing. Prior to 1993, this race series was part of The Touring Car Championships, and was held over 500 miles(800km); it changed the distance to 1000km in 1973.

Fun fact for you. During covid Hospitals everywhere were desperately short of ventilators. The guys who make portable ventilators for the drivers of the super cars then mass produced them for hospitals, with certain modifications obviously. No doubt the idea caught on in America and elsewhere.

The reason for first on Saturday not winning on Sunday mostly comes from the longevity of the vehicle being put through it's paces for a grueling 6hrs. The first on Saturday may blow up their engine or some other catastrophic mechanical failure may happen on the Sunday. This race really is a war of mechanical reliability. Not just good driving. Great review guys. You should check out "This Is Bathurst. This is Mount Panorama". Mark Larkham (ex supercar driver) explains the track and talks you through every single turn, corner, bend and straight away on this particular track. Nobody could explain it better or clearer than him.

Great reaction guys. Anyone from any position can win this race. You can be 17th and still have a shot at winning, it will come down to a lot of factors. There are a minimum of 7 pit stops, driver changes (minimum laps 64), safety car periods, brake pad changes, animals, driver fatigue, weather and the list goes on. It is an endurance race and race teams start preparing for this race as soon as they finish last years race. This year brings in the new Gen 3 race cars (all new from the ground up) Cameros and Mustangs. If you guys can find a live stream of the race watch it, I don't think that you will be disappointed. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

11:06 11 There were winners still racing at the time of the video; this is because teams run two drivers per car at Bathurst, so both drivers are credited with the win - hence so many.

Not mentioned here is the death in the 1992 race from a heart attack of the New Zealand F1 World Champion Denny Hulme on the main straight in rain. 😞He managed to pull off the track and, fortunately, no other driver got involved in the incident. Actually, especially in more recent years, the "Great Race" has been won many times by Kiwi drivers, something that Aussies hate! 🙂

In the main game, yes, we've avoided deaths. But in 2006, Mark Porter died at Sulman park in a similar crash to Paul Weel's wreck.

The grate does little to the cars, drivers actually use it as a marker to aim at on that corner. Mountain is originally called Wahluu, from my tribe the Wiradjuri, Wahluu means sacred place, its a mens iniaition site. The mountain is still turning boys into men!

Nonpfixion here - I learned about it in multiple documentary about prohibition and classic movies about gangster's expansion from New York and Chicago to the Deep South. the hot lap for pole will be won by seconds at most, but the race is so long has so many pits and driver changes and it's such a good course for passing the lead changes several times

Imagine motorbikes and motor bike side cars racing on this track ? It was the Easter racing at Bathurst.b4 it was banned 👎. Very Cold camping with the Folks on the mountain . But the daredevil racing is a part of Bathurst folklore. 😄 Those guys were full maniacs. As there was no soft safety barriers in the 60s and 70s. Cars as well.. You could end up going over a cliff!

We..my dad drove around Bathurst town and track in the 70s.. l was a kid but l could drive tractors when l was 5..but cars drove when l was about 10 years old..l was born in 1963 ...1 more thing an aussie jett Lawrence just won the 450 motorcross championship in USA he won every round.

The grate is not about traction loss caused by the grate, its the downward loading on the tyres contact patch. The grate is a marker for that part of the track where the tyre is over loaded. The French started racing very early on. 1910s

11:00 only 11 of the current drivers have won on the mounts before. There are a lot of other drivers that have won like alan moffat, dick Johnson, John bowe and of course Peter Brock who won the great race 9 times.

The fastest car is not always the winner. Bathurst is a track that works well for smaller cars passing. 1972 was a good show for the smaller car, Fords 5.8L V8 " v " Holdens 3.3L inline 6. The Ford needed every bit of track it could get and could only hit full power on conrod, the Holden was much smaller and was able pass on the turns going up the MT and across the top with more speed, after 500 miles that counted.

I don't think they lose traction because of the grate. The grate just happens to be at a part of the track where cars can easily lose control.

Im an Aussie and I knew NASCAR started from Moonshiners building hot cars to beat the cops.. Then (probably drunk) they started racing them.. as ya do.. He means 11 guys in that years race that have won before.. 1000km race, as long as you are top 10 in the last 10 minutes, you can win..

That top of the mountain night scenes was probably taken at the Bathurst Easter Motorbike races. They haven't been a thing for a few decades now. But when they were it could be a lot of fun. The cops had a compound back then and the bikies/bikers enjoyed taunting them and the cops enjoyed leaving their compound to join in the fun. If you can read between the lines...if you know what I mean And everyone enjoyed themselves

Bathurst is the blue riband round, but Supercars can be awesome on the flat, in a city too.. this is from the Gold Coast round in 2010. Some of the best racing I've ever seen.. Na, the grate has nothing to do with losing traction. The term "wide at the grate" is best explained in Mark Larkhams video (This is Bathurst) highly recommended if you are truly interested in knowing what is what when it comes to Bathurst. 👍

This is a kewi from NZ speaking not an aussie..that's why he can't pronouce ( this or chips) properly..but new Zealand accent is very much like Australian except some words are pronounced different...exsample NZ say chups not chips

Do yourselves a favour and watch the full race in october ,Aussies who can't get to the actual race spend the whole day watching it on TV with their mates and drink beer and have barbecue lunches the whole family is involved whether they like it or not and to not show any interest is considered UnAustralian ,I expect that you yanks started racing with the invention of the automobiile , as for us Aussie's, we are insanely competitive so we would have started racing cars as soon as the first two were imported .we race anything that moves including crabs ,cockroaches, and canetoads . We consider our form of supercar racing superior to your nascar as we actually drive the cars around corners as opposed to you blokes driving around in a circle, my mum could do that with both hands tied behind her back and knit you some socks at the same time, alas the Ford v Holden rivalries ended with the closure of the Ford and GM Australia manufacturing plants , the replacement Mustangs and Corvettes although fantastic cars just don't have the same appeal as the home grown V8's. Still any excuse for a piss up with your mates is a good idea so I'll still be watching .

@@RealFansSports it happens, the tenacious D devil is the best devil lol, while looking at old peter brock races (one of the best Australians to race bathurst) i found a video you might find interesting, in 2013 they did a lap of bathurst using a v8 production car from 2002 i think, then a 2013 Holden special vehicle or HSV and a holden v8 supercar, the results might surprise you, might

You seem like a couple of nice young men, but the French had some of the first motorsport, before 1910. The 24 Hours of Le Mans started in 1923. The Brroklands circuit was built in Weybridge, London in the 1920s. All of this was before prohibition. NASCAR was derived from hillbilly moonshiners after WW2. Unfortunately "reacts to" content often turns out to be an excuse to display a lack of knowledge.

We don't claim to be experts of the stuff we react to, we react to things we know very little about in hopes of learning about new things from all over the world. It hard to win because car reliability is a big issue's As cars break all sorts of stuff and weird stuff go wrong over length of race You guys need to look at best of Bathurst crashes Or best of super car crashes many to choose from Also one's where the crash at take off as our races standing starts Sometimes they brake something on start and cars at back have to try and miss them Some slam into them and they have 120 litres of fuel on board Those early footage you watched the cars didn't even have roll cages in them Alot where almost how you bought them from off the show room floor twigged to go a bit faster that was about it Cheers guys 🦘🇦🇺👍
