So many of these stories are both horrendous and fascinating. The apocalyptic language, regarding evil and seals, was colorfully written, and I enjoyed the humorous story telling. Bravo to the writers.

The wasps in the battery story. All he had to do was connect the terminals to an outlet and the whole thing would have charged, killing the wasps. Even if they weren't connected there would still be enough of a bridge to send a current. (In theory)

Gotta correct you here! DE is great but it’s far from 100% safe! It is a known respiratory irritant! It can cause lung damage if inhaled so if your going to use it you need to wear respiratory protection. It can set up like concrete in your lungs which is a very bad thing.

Exterminator here, 15 yrs of experience. I had a bunch of cockroach infestation stories like the one told at the begining, one recently. It would be good to have a partner so at least he can stop roaches from crawl or fall down on me from the ceiling. Roaches know nothing about boundaries or personal space.

I was a dumb kid visiting my grandparents out in the country. Closest neighbors were more than a mile away. A hornet had just stung my little brother, and he ran inside crying. I had just been hunting rabbits that had been devastating my GM's garden. The hornet flew in a figure eight, coming closer. I looked downrange, as I had been taught, aimed, led the hornet by a little, and pressed the trigger. Obviously, I don't know what happened to the hornet. I confessed to my GP that I had missed the last rabbit, then disassembled and cleaned the 12 gauge. Kind of like the Monty Python skit of calling in a nuclear strike on mosquitoes. Even at 10, I knew that my behavior was ridiculous.

Another roach story. Went on an EMS run as a firefighter/paramedic in Los Angeles 26 years ago. The roaches peppered every inch of the apartment unit we were called to. The family was sitting on the sofa watching the TV flicking away the bugs crawling around them. You can see some fall from the ceiling. They were everywhere. Grandma, who we were called for, quickly walked towards us from the hallway yelling let's go! She was visiting from out of town and became sick after staying only two days at the apartment. After taking the patient to the hospital, we had to call building and safety. When you respond to a 911 call and see something like this, you have to make some phone calls after the situation you were called for is handled. My skin crawled at least an hour after that run. I will never forget the people sitting on the sofa acting like nothing was going on.

God, I never thought I'd wish I never heard some stories more than these. The worst I've had is spiders that my boyfriend catches and takes outside. I realized last year that I'm the person who has to take care of mice. My former roommate was too scared to touch them with his hands and didn't think a show box would contain one. I just started picking them up and yeeting them out into the snow, where I assume my froze to death. Then I'd wash my hands with hot water. We have a cat but she's more in the business of torture than eating. BF and I one saw her smack a mouse so hard we heard the thump as it hit the wall. We haven't had any this winter, so I assume they know the horror that is the cat.

Tonight I had a rare encounter with a roach. Well, actually, my cat went into hunting mode, so I turned off most of the lights, lifted the shoe Gillian was stalking, and whacked it. It was no longer a cat toy, so I wiped it up and threw it away, and rewarded her.

My cousin and I were trying to clean a tubing pad, like for water tubing. There were some ants on it, and we decided to try to deflate it and sink it. We lifted the flap covering the pump port, only for countless ants to come swarming out. My cousin screamed and ran across the dock while I fell over like a turtle. It was terrifying and hilarious. Mandatory not an exterminator, here's 2: 1- Dad has a many tool boxes, kits and bags, in one such bag (bc of a careless service employee doing the dishes in the vicinity) fell some food relatively frequently, on the outside nothing was out of the ordinary, but on the inside there was at least 20 roaches existing. I closed that bag AFAIC and then opened it again, just a tad. What followed was the appropriate amount of crazed spraying and subsequent closing of the bag at lightning speed... I stayed there for a good 4 minutes just listening to their frantic scratching of the walls as they desperately looked for an exit to no avail, and when the silence of death followed, I left. Schadenfreude... 2- (context: I live in an apartment complex, 5th floor, with a trash-chute that probably wasn't cleaned properly at the time.) I once went to the kitchen at midnight to drink some of water as you do. I found a small gathering of roaches besides the stove, it was like 6 just in the kitchen. I took my time and sprayed them all one by one and abandoned them as soon as they were legs up and writhing. Then I went to the bathroom and found another 3... More spraying followed. (triple-checked my room before sleeping that night.)

Expanding spray foam insulation works well on gaps and cracks that bugs use. Expanding foam is very sticky, messy, and hard to clean... wear old clothes and place protective covering (old newspaper, trash bags, etc) over nearby carpet, furniture, and valuables. Walmart carries GE brand expanding foam for app $3.88 per 12oz (340g) can, many places charge $8 - $12 for similar products.

Not an exterminator, but I have a good story for this one. I was apart of the Girl Scouts growing up, and we had two yearly camping trips. One was my troop by itself camping out, and the other where the story takes place was at a camp ground where there was normal camping activities and activities that the older troops set up and ran for the younger troops. Well given that this camp ground was in the middle of nowhere in rural Florida you’d expect a lot of creatures to constantly be around. On one of these trips me and my troop had already gone to bed, only to be woken up by screaming from a couple of girls from another troop we were sharing the site with. We all rush out to see what happened, one was hanging on to the railing of the stairs for dear life trying not to touch the ground, the other frantically flailing around trying to desperately get something off. We got sent back to bed well the adults went to help the girls. We learned later the follow morning what happened, the girl that was holding herself up for dear life on the railing found a really big spider. The other girl being her friend and (at that time) not afraid of spiders goes to step on it. The problem was that the spider was so big because it was female and pregnant, and the second the girl stepped on it it did kill the mom spider but all of the baby spiders burst out going everywhere including climbing up the girl and you can probably guess now why the other girl was hanging onto the railing now. I would say that after that the second girl is now terrified of spiders and those girls friendship was probably never the same. Oh and fun fact the following year at the sit we called treetops because the cabins were so high up it was basically a treehouse, one of the day the girls how stayed there saw a adult panther and it’s baby. Don’t worry they stayed up and far away no one got hurt and I doubt the panthers even saw them, an$ the panthers left shortly after they got there after looking around a bit.

My story was that me and my mom and I had gotten our first apartment after we immigrated. I was 7 at the time, and my mom got to choose either to choose an apartment either near the fields or near the park. And she decides that she was gonna choose the one near the fields fearing I would run away without telling her to the park, which is something I've never done. And it was the worst decision she ever made. The place was INFESTED with these tiny black bugs, which I can't recall what they were called. We would find them EVERYWHERE in various rooms, clothing, and even our own food. Once we called an exterminator, and they all seemed dead, but surprise, the gas did nothing, and the next morning, while I was looking at them, they randomly sprung up back to life. We finally did get an exterminator who had to bring the big guns to kill them, but the problem never resolved because apparently their nest was UNDER our apartment. And it was only our apartment. The neighbors didn't have this problem, neither the landlord ever mentioned it and wouldn't let us switch to a different one. After God knows how long, we just moved out and went back to Mexico. To live with my grandparents because we just couldn't live there any longer. It's been years since then, and I have no clue how we manage to live there. And hopefully nobody is living there now, cause that was fucking hell. May the landlord who never told us of the infestation get run over and split in two.

I have a story yet it was a time we called a exterminator I was staying at a really nice hotel in Tennessee down in the smokey mountains or near there. It had a indoor and outdoor waterpark and we were having a really nice day, I WOULD’VE SAID UNTIL THE 2 DAY. An upstairs neighbor dropped a pizza box (with pizza still inside), I kid you not me and my mom we having coffee on the porch and look down to see a whole floor covered in roaches. These roaches were GIGA ROACHES. We called a exterminator and they needed extra days to clean, so we were moved to the upstairs porch. Never pressed charges unfortunately. (side note: we moved out at midnight)

So I work for B&D pest control company for haul out jobs. This one house we did swarming with rats and roaches. It was horrible they were everywhere. They made nice out in the open because these two people won’t do anything about it. It’s not completely their fault. One of them is mentally challenged in the other is physically disabled, there was one room that was just full of tissues. There was a mattress in there that was a light lamp that was just on for God knows how long in the middle of all of it but the rats were horrible. We open the oven and there was rats in there the bathtub the bathroom, they were everywhere. One was in a box and I was carrying it jumped on me and then hit the floor and ran. It was horrible and the walls you could take a hammer hit the wall and you wouldn’t hit the actual while you were just hit roach shit

There was a bathroom near where our campsite was. When I went inside it wasn't too bad. Just your typical dirty bathroom in the middle of the Woods. But when I open the lid of the first toilet then I saw them. Daddy long legs, hundreds of them. And it wasn't just that one toilet. Needless to say I went to the bathroom in the woods until morning came to use the cleaner bathrooms. Last time I saw that one bathroom, there was a group of men and fellow campers standing outside of it.

Lived in a very old dorm for one year of college that was about a 5 minute drive from the main campus. Due to the age of the dorm building, there was always an ant problem in my room. I didn't mind the ants since they were just annoying. However, the ants attracted house spiders into my dorm. I am terrified of spiders and did not tolerate it nearly as well as the ants. To top this all off, the spiders attracted something as well. House centipedes. It was a dorm of horror to say the least. I'm glad the school sold off that building so that no one ever lives in those dorms again.

I worked at this place, in the May, I told my N/S managers about the rats at the compactor outside, They shrugged it off saying there are always rats. I replied not this much. Over the next 5 months they didn’t do much and the rat problem grew. I stopped doing any shopping there, told my immediate family and friends not to buy any fresh food or produce there. Wouldn’t say why. Then in late November /early December my daughter in-law calls saying some had dropped from the ceiling of the mcds In store, that night when I go in there are pest control, some even have rifles. No joke. I’ll be honest, we brought deliveries and watched the rats playing at most 6 ft away. We got that used to them. We were told you don’t talk to anyone but someone spoke to the local paper.

On huge spider infestation story, on the bright side at least that means the spiders killed off the rest of the insects that might’ve pest the land, which makes me wonder how a large amount of those spiders didn’t eventually starve to death once they take over the grass and are all competing each other for food, I assume with that many predators around there food supply should dwindle fast.

Last summer, our neighbors were evicted, 1week later the park manager looks in the place and immediately calls an exterminator. Three days after that my son and I are working in the yard when an exterminator pulls up and walks into the house, we here a loud "F*#K ME" and he runs out beating his clothing for any bugs. He then proceeds to start spraying our house and yard up to neighbors home, then the neighbors on the other side before he sucks up the courage to go back into the "hellhouse" to spray inside it. We had to fight a small infestation for a week or so but it could have been so much worse.

Soon as I heard "one night" about dealing with the hornets I knew, ooh, this is gonna be bad. You wanna deal with hornets early in the morning, when they're sleepy because it's cold out. And you want to pour smoke into their nest, not seal it up. And I don't know where the guy heard oil kills hornets. The smoke makes sluggish the ones it doesn't outright kill, then you suck them up with a vacuum cleaner. THEN you seal the hive. (Or set fire to it, depending on when/where it is.) Most of our hornet nests were underground, so we poured smoke into the nest, used a vacuum cleaner to suck up what we could, and then piled earth on top of the entrance.

Nothing nearly that bad, but we got a Christmas Tree one year that turned out to have a spider egg sack inside. When the tree warmed up in the shower before setting it up, the spiders hatched. My wife is arachnaphobic. She was not happy with the baby spiders living in our shower. Had to get a spray that would kill the spiders, but not the tree or our cat. I was skeptical, but it worked. Smelled like rotten citrus though. That was not among our better Christmases.

Not so fun fact in relation to the first story that no one asked for A rat king is a group of 12 or more rats that has their tails noted together while burrowing together that has become impossible to untangle due to blood urine and feces. Only six live ones have been found in the uk in the last century

No no, it's not spray WD40 that kills hornets, wasps and the like. It's carburetor (or sometimes called contact)cleaner that does it. The reason it does is because spray-on contact cleaner absorbs moisture out of what you spray it on, including bugs. One good spray on one and they go down in seconds. When I was a kid my grandfather had a big wasp's nest behind one of the decorative shutters to a window. Over the course of two months they had gone from a minor annoyance to being full-on aggressive, so he got a can of it out of his tool shed and sprayed behind the shutter from top to bottom. Two seconds after he backed off at least two dozen of them came flying out in all directions, and another 5 seconds later they all started dropping out of the air one by one. That nest was never a problem again. Hornet NESTS though, would be problematic for that since unlike most wasp nests around here they're enclosed. You're better off making a home-made flame-thrower and burning it at night if it's in a tree or a bush.

Dunno about WD-40, but I've had brake cleaner kill yellowjackets as fast as Raid. Maggot story: I was a trash collector until last year. Oceans of maggots were just a humdrum part of the job.
