Nah, the relationship agreement, just like the roommate agreement, only exists to reinforce Sheldon's selfishness and so he can have everything his way. Sheldon never even fulfills his part of the agreement. I mean, he ignored the agreement just so he could go play a video game.

I mean, if it was a real agreement between two parties, sure. Later episodes do show that having clearly established terms and boundaries in the relationship helps Sheldon and Amy, while Leonard and Penny's relationship is more messily defined, so you're not wrong that having a contract in writing is not the worst thing. But the fact that Sheldon was the sole writer and Amy just agreed, knowing how Sheldon tends to draw up contracts in his favor... eh?

@@kateorgera5907 yeah it shows that they were perfect for each other and she's astonished when things are in perspective. Any other girl would have rejected in a heartbeat but Amy liked that because she fully understands Sheldon character, she's been there. It says a lot that in the first 3 seasons, Sheldon had 4 friends but it took Amy to really go through a lot to break Sheldon out of his force field and finally open up. She was the only one that didn't see Sheldon like a creature from another planet, she enjoys being around him, unlike his other "friends" that's why she's perfect for him. As far as Leonard and Penny, I don't even want to get started with them lol. All I can say with that is "opposites attracts but not all the time."

@@vetarlittorf1807 Very true. However, unlike the Roommate Agreement, the Relationship Agreement actually shows that it can be helpful. Which is going to take a while for Eric to react too, so I don't want to say too much. But you should know what I mean, if you seen all of the episodes.

​@@dboslice I think they leaned on the Sheldon-Penny bond because they are such opposites and are fun to play off each other. Sheldon is all head while Penny is all heart. But Sheldon would have to be VERY different. As in, not constantly insulting her intelligence. She had enough issues with Leonard being smarter than her, Sheldon is on a whole other plane.

@@kateorgera5907 that's very true and I never looked at it like that. I mean, I knew Leonard and Penny were polar opposites, but their backstory still felt like a cheap "chick flick" to me. But back to Sheldon and Penny, that's the beauty of their characters, both of them been exposed on being opposites. Sheldon been exposed that he wasn't as smart as he thought he was, and Penny been exposed to where she's acted heartless, yet they were similar. Penny's from Nebraska and Sheldon's from Texas, so they are no strangers to that type of environment, they are both egotistical in their own way, and they are control freaks. So if anything, Sheldon could have been a good match for Penny more than Leonard. That would be the definition of Opposites being in love.

@@MysticClaws100 Yeah, but it was mostly talked about in singular online forums, nothing the sitcom writers who are a generation older than the characters would think to look at. I mean, the term "herstory" has existed since the 70s, but it's only really been discussed in mainstream since 2016.

"Amy" does not rhyme with "Benny" and "Penny". "Amy" rhymes with "Jamie", and no one calls Bernadette Benny.

I mean it can happen. Don't forget, "sitcoms" technically encompass everything from this to Scrubs to The Good Place. But four-camera laugh track sitcoms, yes, they do tend to go more broad. That said, I think even Big Bang does have its moments of nuance as the show goes on, especially with Sheldon's sexuality. Not the most progressive, but still meaningful for the character. Outside of sexuality, my favorite scene, a scene I truly believe only Big Bang could pull off, is the one with Howard's father's letter, where they all give him a possibility of what's in the letter but don't reveal which one is true. Like, Howard's relationship with his absent father is really unpacked decently in that episode, the nuance of wanting nothing to do with him and yet hating the not-knowing. So the gang gives him these scenarios, each of which could or could not be true. Yet they all communicate the same thing: his father cared about him in his own way, even if he wasn't there as he ought to have been. The audience is left just as in the dark as Howard is in the end, where another show would have revealed the truth in some kind of aside behind Howard's back. And it's so satisfying to me. And the fact that it came from such a normally blunt and basic sitcom makes it all the more special.
