Ive had these tires on my MR2 turbo for almost 3 years. Just replaced the back tires today. I got about 15,000 kilometres on the rears. The front still look great. These tires grip like a mofo.

this is the rear tire i run o n my miata to help put the power down and i love it so much. ive got 225/45r15s on the rear and 205/50 in the front

R1R is bit outdated, used a set once, they are not that good and terrible in wet. 225 40 18 r1r in Hong Kong only 500us per set. Now i am using re71r, best street tyre i ever use!

I also run RE-71R's. I considered the Toyo R1R but from the reviews, Pontenza seemed like the way to go for my autox setup.

Funny , in europe most small rally team use R1R for damp/wet tires because they are like 3x cheaper than rally wet tires and perform almost as well , like 0.2-0.3s loss per km only . I add that they are know to give better result on light

There are wax's that can be purchased to protect your wheels however Christian has another good point of washing them consistently! Or store them if you can that is always an option!
