Pretty sure season 2 was green lit though Edit: Season 2 of Andor is expected to be released in 2025, with some estimates suggesting it could premiere in the first quarter of the year. The season was originally scheduled for release in August 2024, but was delayed due to production issues. Production began on November 21, 2022 and wrapped on February 9, 2024, with showrunner Tony Gilroy estimating that postproduction would take about a year.

Senator Mon Mothma was actually briefly in The Return of the Jedi, though obviously played by a different actor. This actor played the Senator in one of the prequels, but the scene was cut. She also played the Senator in a few other Star Wars shows.

That Tie Fighter flying aggressively low reminds me of the f'd up way in WWII the Germans had Jericho Trumpets on their dive bombers' landing gear, to make them come screaming down over people on the ground as they fled in terror.
@pseudonymousbeing987Ай бұрын
God they even humanised the momentary TIE pilot in the show. It's just a flyboy who wants a little fun and recklessness, and service to the terror of the empire all in one. Somehow the show even makes it feel like there's a human being and human motivations in the faceless machine.

The best theory I've seen is that Skeen (Ritchie) was looking for an opportunity, not necessarily some master plan. His failure to cover the team and that he "deliberately" tries to play off different members of the cell against each other, revealing that the one guy was a former storm trooper, trying to get everyone else to mistrust Andor with his actions at the end of episode 5. I don't think had Skeen much control over how the heist unfolded, but I don't think it would take a genius to plan for the eventuality that something would go wrong and there might be an opportunity for someone like him to get away with the money.
@jessicasmith1766Ай бұрын
Once you know that Skeen is a snake, it really recontextualizes everything he did before. All his trying to sow division between Cas and the others "he's a former stormtrooper" "he's not a true believer; he's just here for money." But MOST significantly, he's the one who shot first in the vault. Lt. Gorn was still trying to control the situation when Skeen shot one of the guards. Now if you were planning to make off with the money, it would sure be more useful to have fewer team members to fight or split it with! Insisting on taking Nemik to the doctor rather than just delivering the money gave him an opportunity to steal it. I definitely think "I don't have a brother" was the last straw for Cas. Once a liar, always a liar, and all that. But also, Cas is first and foremost a survivor. (Until, you know...) He shot that guard in the first episode because he knew he couldn't be taken in on a murder charge. He shot his informant in his first scene in Rogue One because he knew they couldn't both escape and they couldn't afford for the informant to be captured. He shoots Skeen because he's a liability and a crook. Cas acts quickly and has feelings about it later.

I know her from _Fresh Meat,_ a terribly underappreciated British university comedy. It's always super weird seeing her in anything else, because she was sort of an oddball/outsider in that show, whereas she pops up in a lot of genre stuff and somehow always tends to be in the in-group, where she's more about the day to day goings on of the rebel squad / temple operations / space station control room, and someone else is the outsider protagonist.

nemik is truly the best boy 😭 also the eye is probably the most visually beautiful thing i’ve ever seen in star wars. i also really enjoyed the little office drama they got going on in the imperial side, it humanizes them and underscores the banality of evil, and shows that evil is more than dark force powers, which i just think is a great concept to explore

The thing I love about Richie from the Bear's character is that I think he was genuine in hating the empire, and at first believed in the plan, but not the revolution. Once you're there with more money than you could ever spend in one lifetime with only two people who know.. Things get real tempting

The episodes only get better after starting off strong. Andor is shockingly good the second half of the season. It goes from very good to an all-time great drama.
@EvanFowlerАй бұрын
It's one of the advantages to well-crafted slow burn storytelling. It builds to these incredible peaks with it's payoffs. Every little arc on this show builds slowly up to fantastic little cheshendos. I love it so much. Cannot wait to see the rest. I'm really hoping that The Acolyte applies the lessons learned from this being the best of their shows. This kind of methodical plotting and world-building applied to an actual Jedi story would be the coolest thing ever. We'll see.
@davidciАй бұрын
Star Wars has never looked so much fresher and more vast than this Edit: Andor shot The-Guy-From-The-Bear™ because a.) If he lied the whole way through the whole heist, he cannot be trusted that they can share the 80 million credits properly, b.) Andor was subconsciously actually wanting to rebel for the cause despite pretending to do it only for the money and The-Guy-From-The-Bear™'s actions disgusted him, and c.) He lied about his whole brother thing, which ticked off Andor due to his own constant search for his sister. It's awesome how all these reasons combined were never explicitly said but gave so much more sense why Andor did what he did.
@goldenageofdinosaurs7192Ай бұрын
Yeah, I think Cassian just realized that, after that confession, his life was going to be ending rather quickly one way or the other if he didn’t take care of business immediately.
@TimmayytooАй бұрын
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 Exactly... what was stopping him from just whacking Cassian and taking the whole 80 million? Cassian was already dealing with troublesome loose ends - that's why he took the gig originally - so why risk having Skeen out there as another problem waiting to happen?
@brendanfalvy1281Ай бұрын
Skeen isn't just there to score, but he's compartmentalised. Skeen expects to be sold out or left behind eventually, so the arrival of a big score and a person he can leverage presents him with the opportunity. There's no cause for him, just revenge while the odds are favourable and he needs them. Skeen knows Cassian understands the juvenile incarceration system. Being institutionalised by the system could be enough to sell allegiance to a group, and to Andor, but Skeen needs a lie to sell so he's harder to manipulate. The implication here is that Skeen is always making sure he has a way out. He's been following Luthen's two rules; never take anything you don't control and build your exit on your way in. All his little strip downs and confrontations are manipulation tactics. He thinks he reads Andor right, so sowing the distrust, having the common background in detention, make Andor the "perfect mark" after the perfect score to help him disappear. For all we know, that nearby moon has a stash of cash he's been squirrelling away for years too.
@LaxJediАй бұрын
@@brendanfalvy1281Yeah in line with what you and others are saying, Skeen is an opportunist who saw an opportunity to possibly score big after the events/circumstances ended up the way they did. I highly doubt he had a master plan to join the heist and try to take the money right from the start, as Jimmy speculated. Skeen then thought saw a kindred spirit in Cassian, someone who could help fulfill this opportunity, but slightly misjudged him and the situation.
@andyb1653Ай бұрын
Also I think in Skeen, Cassian saw what living as a mercenary could turn him into. Taking the deal would have been a step in that direction, and by killing Skeen he was rejecting that future from becoming his own.

You are right - not just great Star Wars, it’s one of the best tv dramas of the past five years. Phenomenally great series. And it just keeps getting better. I think Skeen turned at the last minute… meeting Cassian gives him the idea to give up on the others and make the offer, obviously feeling very confident that Cassian is going to accept.. And Luthen is a cold bastard too. He’s laughing in relief without even knowing who has lived or died. Looking forward to the rest of your reactions - you’ve got some fantastic episodes to come .

Mon Mothma's daughter is right that her mother has been neglecting her and her father. Mon Mothma is devoted to the rebellion; something's gotta give. I loved the scene of the TIE pilots climbing into their ships. I'm former Air Force, so in a way that was such a familiar sight. Cinta walked away pretty calmly...as though she didn't expect anyone chasing her or knowing what she looked like. The intensity of Luthen's laugh revealed the intensity of his anxiety.

I went through exactly the same math as you when Cassian shot Skeen and came to the same conclusion. I think its a byproduct of watching too many hero's stories that I wanted Cassian to feel more like a hero for me even knowing where his arc goes and his example already evident in Rogue One. For me this is the best thing Disney has done without a doubt.
@Rocco1332Ай бұрын
Luthen's shop has 100 easter eggs, including some Indiana Jones references. Episode 6 is tied with 7 as my 3rd favorite episode. This show actually makes the Imperials scary, something Disney has repeatedly failed to do. The action in 6 is so amazing. Shots go where they should be, people moving as they would, every shot has weight to it. I wish the rest of the Disney shows would take note. I've watched this show into the double digits and probably seen 100 reactions...i still get on the edge of my seat watching your reaction....it's so good. The way i see Skeen's betrayal is that it's oppertunistic. He was kinda going along with rebelling to stick it to the Empire, then after everything goes wrong, he sees an opportunity and takes it.

18:50 According to stories I've heard, US pilots did shit like this during the Vietnam War. Spot some locals, then do a low, high speed pass just to f*ck with 'em. This show feels like it does the world building that the prequels should have done about how the falling Republic/rising Empire actually functions in an entertaining logistical and emotional level. That might be asking a lot as that sort of writing was never Lucas’ strong suit, but this show makes such a focus interesting to me to delve into what it feels like for the everyday person/being in the Galaxy to see a Republic that lasted 10,000 years fall in like a decade
@jerodastАй бұрын
I was just reading the Wikipedia entry for Mon Mothma because of this video, and apparently her scenes were cut from Ep III, including conversations with Bail Organa and Padme about the encroaching authoritarianism and how to resist it...basically the seeds of the rebellion. And I thought hey, that sounds an awful lot like the themes of this show! But all the deeper political stuff was cut to keep the movie from getting too bloated. I can't deny, it was already covering a lot as it was, and probably the execution would've been far below the level of this show, but I thought damn, I would've appreciated a little more wider perspective on everything going on in the Fall of the Old Republic compared to what we got...

Luthen is PEAK
@pseudonymousbeing987Ай бұрын
I totally read Luthen's laugh as more than just a good thing. Because all he's heard is that the attack got on the news. He has no idea who survived, if anyone. He has no idea if it was even successful. All he knows is his actions hit the headlines. And that's what's important to him... This is all very character relevant.

Mon Mothma is playing her own game, presenting sensible, but overall weak “opposition” in the senate, while actually funding rebels network and being real opposition with Luthen (well, more of “bank” for rebellion used by Luthen, but still). Idk what isn't likeable about her, seems like a decent, slightly weasely politician funding terrorists who fight for the “greater good”. As soon as Skein opened his mouth about the money, he was done for: - the idea of 2 bums having 40mil each and running around spending money is hilariously stupid in a first place. Ok they hide the money, and take some to spend, then what? Even if Cassian does take a deal, they are a loose end to each other, one has to go, Cassian has to shoot first, otherwise Skein would or would remain a loose end - Cassian doesn't take a deal and starts walking or sits there or tells Vel about Skein. So Skein would shoot Cassian, because there is no going back after what was said. Because of that, Cassian has to kill him, otherwise he dies himself
@jerodastАй бұрын
Good breakdown of Mon. It's a complicated line to walk being a public figure who had already expressed rebellious sentiment back before she realized that it was too late for sentiment in the Senate to accomplish anything. Walking it back would be implausible but publicly committing would of course be suicide...the part must be played, even to her daughter Skein definitely put them in an impossible situation. Sometimes I think the only thing that makes sense is he was loyal, and tried to test Cassian without thinking it through 😬
@rdkirk383421 күн бұрын
@@jerodast There was no point to testing Cassian at that juncture. If he still distrusted Cassian, he should have just kept an eye on him until they'd parted ways.
