Movie starts: John Connor: ight ima head out

After watching Dark Fate, I have a new found respect and appreciation for Salvation. It had it's problems for sure, but at least it tried something different, and actually attempted to move the story forward instead of recycling the same plot line over and over again.

Killing off John Connor in the opening scene had me thinking they were going to take it in a new and interesting direction... but we ultimately just get Connor and Skynet surrogates which made it all meaningless.

Everyday I'm appreciating Salvation more because at least they were original. Unlike these new films

Two ironies: They made a token gender switch and sitting right there is Linda Hamilton/Sarah Connor, one of THE earliest badass female characters I can remember. Like we've already done this - and properly too. Second: They mock "your womb is important, not you', but that is precisely part of what made T2 great - Mother's tenacious defense of what comes out of that womb - her son. In comparison, New Female Lead Character has no emotional hook with the audience. She wants to be ME - NOW - not live in a mineshaft - end of story. Well that story isn't remotely in the same league as Sarah Connor's story.

The most impressive thing about this movie was that a T-101 managed to grow a conscience even though the default setting was supposed to be "read-only." Seems like poor design.

The worst part is, they essentially negated the importance of John Connor. Essentially, what happens is if you kill John Connor, you still get Judgement Day but someone else will be the savior, thereby negating its importance and makes Skynet/Legion's efforts pointless.

Wait, so if all the Terminators had the ability to have emotions based from this movie. Well then what was the f**king point of removing the inhibitor chip in T-2? They already had a reason as to not go beyond their programming, so unless Skynet wanted a bunch of emotional, liabilities to themselves left in the past who could one day possibly want to stop Skynet because of their grief/regret, with all their knowledge and skills with no backup plans then Skynet just killed themselves.

After seeing Dark Fate I now have a new appreciation for Rise of the Machines way more, along with Salvation.

That scene with Sarah just being depressed talking about John sitting on a log near Carl house was quite emotional. Fun fact: there's a very similar deleted scene with Sarah and Reese in the original Terminator.

I watched Terminator Dark Fate today with my dad. The things liked about the movie are the action scenes and the one thing I don’t like about the movie is that they killed John Connor.

Joe, I wish you would touch on the review boosting that is taking place on rotten tomatoes. The 4-5 star user reviews that are being posted in 1-2 minute increments by “verified” reviewers with generic names and no avatars is highly suspicious. I think the studios have found a way to game the user reviews. Either that or Tencent is trying somehow to recoup their initial 10% budget investment.

When they said Legion I immediately thought of Starks Iron Legion, then I started creating my own head canon for a Marvel/Terminator mashup where Ultron is winning in the AI uprising creating the Terminators in a separate universe.

DOESNT SOUNDS LIKE AN 8 FILM

I know how to fix TDF: Do a mid credit scene... Year 2042, Dani is now older, she's in a laboratory hi-tech workshop, (mid shot): we see her talking to someone, instructing this person... seconds later, a blue sparking electric lighting appears and swallows this dark figure person... Jump shot back in time: 1997, we see a young Sarah and John Connor enjoying themselves at a beach bar, this is the same opening scene... (cut scene), a large man is approaching them with his weapon, we recall whats about to happen... All of a sudden! another person trashes through from around the bar and yelling out, we recognize her, its Grace!... she's holding a basketball size stainless steel type future weapon with a strong magnetic flat surface, Grace forcefully sticks the weapon onto the T800 upper chest, and at the same time striking with a powerful kick blow sending the machine plunging backward onto the sand... The chest weapon explodes causing the T800's chest and head to melt in red molten fire!.... (Scene moves the audience to a heartfelt emotion), Grace approaches both Sarah and John and says (all time pickup line)... Come with me if you want to live!... End credits.

The comic ending Joe describes reminds on The Matrix ending with the rogue program Agent Smith corrupting everything.

I've just saw the movie. The beginning (the 1st half hour) felt like a movie version of the last of Us 2 plot.

Kyle Reese in 1983... “Nobody goes home. Nobody else comes through. It’s just HIM and ME”. 5 shitty sequels later, the same Terminator has a name, an adopted child and a fucking farm.

Did anyone expect this movie to be good? The whole time travel thing is just old and worn out. All films like this and Star Wars and Alien etc can do is desperately try to recapture the magic of the originals. I have to agree with the Critical Drinker, these new movies just rely on nostalgia instead of good storytelling to carry them. I'm glad I haven't been to a theater in 8 years. I feel like I've missed nothing.

I wonder if they could ever revive anything with that idea of Skynet teaming with the humans to fight this AI or something like that for a future war movie. That idea you gave, though based somewhat on the comic, is really cool.
