When I was little, Dad made a dulcimer. He got it all ready to to and took it to Mamaw. Nobody has ever been happier with something and gotten more use from something than that dulcimer.

Thank you for sharing your friend with us, Donnie! My grumps was from Louisa, KY and his family moved there from Tennessee before that. His grandfather was a woodworker and made dulcimers, furniture, and weaving looms. It’s haunting to hear the old American instruments still played, makes my heart happy! My dad played banjo, dulcimer, and guitar and sang tenor in a blue grass gospel band back in the early 80’s. Takes me back to being a kid listening my dad play and sing. He had his thyroid removed and it damaged his vocal chords and the death of his mom and then his sister took the music out of him. But last time i visited he sang some with my daughter and that made me smile. I’m working on getting digital versions of his band’s audio tapes so i can upload them to you tube

Oh I’ll look forward to more of these! Clairfield is my daddy’s birthplace way back in 1914. We would drive around and he would describe how it used to be and you could hardly picture it. So many of my people are buried there. I love to see how life is there and love the dulcimer music! Thanks for the video Donnie and friend!

That's really cool! When I moved up here 10 years ago my first visit and concert at the John C Campbell Folk School was "A Celebration of the Dulcimer". I had to look up what that was, I had never heard that word in my life, man was I pleasantly surprised. Two young ladies playing Dulcimers and the sheet music was from 150 years ago. We were outside in an open barn, a lush green mountain side as a back drop for the stage. I tried to imagine the folks during that time sitting on their porches and listening to the music coming down those hollers. It was magical stuff that night! Thank yall for sharing that Dulcimer!
