It's said that the Apple store is “A Mercedes per square foot. Probably the highest grossing retail store in history.” Maybe next time it will be someone you care about - and in that moment, they may be contributing to that mercades per square foot. Not everyone is technically savvy, and normal people do occasionally fall for this - and this aint a one time thing! This is hilarious. I've had plenty of machines come into my shop that have been worked on by someone else like Staples or Best buy but I'm shocked that the Apple store got this so wrong. I know I shouldn't have very high expectations of them but I like to think that they're at least somewhat competent technicians working there and they're just hamstrung by Apple's ridiculous rules. I hope that customer goes back and tells them just how wrong they got this diagnosis.

This is kind of being illustrated with Tesla. Tesla also does not publish repair manuals, does not sell parts to the public for repairs, and some of the repairs are being quoted ridiculous prices. This is one of the reasons Elon wants to sell insurance, because all the insurance carriers are pricing these repair issues into the premiums and the people are tired of it. It's a bad situation all around.

@@parteibonza There is a reason why Tesla HAS to act like that though: EVERY SINGLE TIME a Tesla is involved in an accident, Musk and the company get huge negative coverage in the media, they simply cannot afford the risk of having someone who doesn't know what they're doing "fix" the cars. They opened their patents a couple of years ago so I'm not sure that greed is the driving force here.

The really funny thing is actually that "one of the pins being bent" doesn't even constitute a logic board replacement, when a pin is bent you can literally just bend it back. The pin isn't some magical technical contraption which holds data in it, it is just something that conducts electricity. As long as it's touching what it needs to it works perfectly fine.

This actually happened to my sister. She had a MacBook air, she barely used it and it died. She took it in and they said both the battery and screen would need replacing and the quote for the fix was higher than buying a new MacBook. She just said 'nope' walked outside and threw it in the bin. That was the last Apple product that her, her husband and her child would ever purchase. Apple don't give a shit. But that one shitty thing led to her husband abandoning Apple. He had been a Mac loyalist since the 1980s, sticking with them when they almost went bankrupt, spending tens of thousands of dollars over the years, and then gets shafted as a reward. Keep doing this Apple. You're losing your hardcore loyalists and once they're gone, when you're no longer fashionable you'll just collapse into nothing.

This is why you never go to the official store for repairs, ever. I don't own an apple pc but have had an iphone since 2009 and it's charging port was broken - took it to an apple wizard and he wanted to charge me for a new battery and a new port for 50 pounds. I found it rather shady so I went to a local phone store and they fixed it in 5 minutes and charged me 5 pounds. Had the same shit happen to me with my pc the very first time I went to get it looked at back in the 90s, they wanted to charge me 3 times the amount I ended up paying some lad running a local pc repair store! They do this shit because people with very little knowledge of technology will go to the "official" store to get repairs done, they'll happily pay whatever they're told it costs - because they don't know any better and just assume that it's that expensive.

@@khloerabnta4995 You see, "Putting the rubber on", or rather the inability to, is a hint towards that persons inability to do so during a sexual encounter, so essentially putting a condom on. Since he is unable to do so he guessed that he'd have a lot of unwanted children, since that will increase the risk of accidental impregnation. Furthermore the inability to "Plug it in properly" refers to.. by now you should get it, which should then balance it out, so he isn't able to have proper intercourse, again lowering the chances of accidental impregnation. That is how it would balance it out

Apple support is just stupid. But the reason IT support tells you to turn it off and on again is because that usually fixes most problems that people have. Most of the time any problem you have with a computer or phone is software related maybe a bit in memory got corrupted, maybe a driver crashed or hell maybe you haven't properly turned off the device for several weeks and there's 5000 background tasks running and eating up all your memory and CPU time. Restarting the device will fix 95% of the problems normal people have, 1% are bad drivers that need to be reinstalled, 1% is corrupted system files, 1% is hardware problems and the rest are just user error. You would be surprised if you knew how many people forget to actually plug in power to the PC... I have seen people that CUT their power cord in half and throw it away because "the box said that the device was wireless"... This is also only going to get worse sadly, since Windows 10 by default doesn't properly shutdown when you press "Shutdown". Windows 10 will instead just put your device in a form of hibernate. You might think that it's shutdown but it really isn't.

Restarting is the best solution for most problems and it quick. Replacing the logic board is the best solution for money making since you don't need to look deeply and get to make money while repairing the "broken" one and resold it for more money.
@littilwood
@littilwood 4 жыл бұрын
Apple reminds me of mechanics. They turn around, go behind the scenes, see the obvious problem, figure they can tell you that the issue is something more expensive, you give them the go ahead to "replace the logic board," pay them the money, get your computer back,. and likely find that the logic board was never changed, even though they charge for the service. Louis, seriously, I want you to consider doing a sting. Get inside a perfectly working macbook, mark different pieces of equipment, have a customer take it in for some random issue, and see what they do. If they claim to change out parts, pay for the service, get the computer back, open it up, and see if they actually performed the service, or if they're simply taking the customer for a ride. That would be a massive scandal if they were caught doing that.

I feel like there are some legality issues here. Nonetheless, i 100% support it's implementation as stings are already a regular thing in other job fields. Take for example, any job that sells alcohol. Stings have been performed to see if the seller was willing to sell alcohol to minors. We really just want to know if they are doing what they advertise because that too is an issue of legality but on THEIR end and is completely justifiable 👍

@physicsguybrian
@physicsguybrian 4 жыл бұрын
I get your point: Please allow me to comment further. There is no logic on the $$$ side of Apple. The logic exists only behind the doors of the obscure tech developers area where they actually design the apple products (or is that also now done entirely be Chinese teams?). Apple $$$ side is all social engineering perception bullshit that preys on the gullibility of consumers who, for whatever reason(s), understand too little (or NONE) about tech to know better and for unknown reasons get by in life letting other people "think" for them. It is so blatantly obvious. I get it, i-Products do make owners happy and blissfully fully engaged in social everything so long as the product works. But there is NO NEED for enormous pricing, except that people are gullible and pay it. There is NO REASON for repairs to be Apple expensive, except that people are gullible, and they pay it...."It's expensive...but they are Apple and it must be necessary". It is a sad state of affairs that people are so willing to be sheep. I am Android (OnePlus 7 Pro) and self-built AMD/nVidia Linux (debian, xubuntu, centos) workstations all the way everyday and thoroughly enjoying all the extra money to do so many more things in life. I think it was once said, "A fool and his money are soon parted" to which I will add, "...one Apple user at a time" Darwin is still right.

I started my company and took 2 of their employees.

This kind of repair fraud has been going on for decades. A local newstation put VCR repair facilities to the test back in the 80s. They got 10 of the same brand new VCR, tested them, removed the fuse, blew the fuse outside of the VCR, and returned the fuse to the VCR. They took each VCR to a different repair place. Only 2 of them identified the fuse as the only problem and charged them for it. The others made up other stories with several of them trying to say the belts were bad. One of them even replaced the belts with old worn out ones.

I've learned so much working for Flextronics and FedEx TechConnect under the contracts for Lenovo and Getac, repair wise and business wise. They got so many loopers for power issues with the T400 models because most of the technicians just unplug and replug the battery, that's only a temporary fix. The main issue is the camera cable, which is often a very common power related issue among all of Lenovo products. The sad thing is they know what they're doing isn't going to fix it because the camera cable replacement is too much work to them.

Whats funny is you think the warranty company gives a damn. I've been a hvac subcontractor for 15yrs and have done alot of home warranty service. You have to understand that no one is in business to replace hundreds or thousands of dollars in equipment for a $60 service fee. The home owner is not the customer, the warranty company and the contractor are each other's customer. It's called denial of service and we are expected to deny as much service as possible depending on what warranty plan you have will determine how your repair is potentially denied. example, due to lack of maintenance, improper installation, "act of god", damage caused by pest, which goes back to lack maintenance. Its all in the fine print of the contract you signed with the home warranty company. Contractors are graded on a point scale and the more service you deny the more service calls you will receive and after denying the service it opens the door to sell you something. Its a game that the consumer unknowingly plays and will always loose, and is the same in all service, from home service to vehicle service to electronics. The consumer is responsible for inflating the fake economy amd as we've seen recently will the shut down, one month of nobody spending money and the world suddenly stops turning
