Hi Chuck! Greetings from New York!! I just wanted to thank you for all that you do! We survived IDA with ease and put a complete end to the constant flooding in our "New Home" which constantly flooded since we moved in 4 years ago. All from watching your videos! I'll put something together soon to send in to view. Thanks again!!!

Thank you so much for all the awesome videos that you have put on KZfaq concerning drainage. I hired a drainage contractor 6 months ago never showed up doesn't know when he can get me on the schedule doesn't know anything about when the job can be completed but he did take a hefty deposit. I'm receiving my deposit back tomorrow my son and I are going to study all your videos and complete the project ourselves thank you so much for all the info you are a lifesaver!

Chuck has a lot of patience working with you. Use a tripod so the camera isn't jumping around. Clean the area of the damage so you can actually see the damage. You have made a 4 minute video last 16 minutes - we don't have to walk everywhere with you. Also, weeping tile is perforated pipe and is the correct product to use if you are using it around foundations. If you are just connecting to downspouts only, solid pipe is OK if you have cleanouts.

My inspector was talking about this today, and specifically said not to use corrugated, dig down and use PVC. So I wanted a better understanding and this video was perfect. Thank you.

Connecting gutters to a french drain will never work. The water will just saturate the soil around the perforated pipe.

Cheers from KS, chuck! But I worry a lot about the 90 plus no adhesive on the connectors(!), that's going to sink within a month a 1/4 inch or so +... and the foundation you chipped off the customers house will soon be fighting water! Not my fav Apple video, feels a little iffy, brother!

I have the same set up but could not afford a professional. I ended up connecting a rectangle connector to the downspout and then connected the other end to a drain that I buried draining the water downward to an existing drain. I taped the connection. I could probably put in a screw because I know that tape is not going to hold up. I didn't have the strength to cut the PVC pipe.

Hi Chuck, Thanks for all your videos. I was wondering what the rest of the story is when you call the utility company. Do they come out and meet with homeowner,? Or just come mark it? Or just look something up to give you info to person? Do they charge anything too? thanks for all your awesome videos with your upbeat positive personality!

Hi Robert. When you call 811 they simple come out locate the utilities. They don't usually even tell the homeowner anything unless you're home and you ask them. Its totally Free and its the law to get them located before you dig.! Thanks for the Comment

Not sure the emphasis on a 90 degree elbow. 2x 45 degree elbows would have avoided concrete lip and is easier to snake if needed later. Rarely use 90 elbows for drains underground for geotechnical work. Also, Class 2 permeable material is great for subdrains/french drains. Self filtering, compacts nicely, but still drains well.

Or, just use the heavier weight corrugated pipe. It won't look the best, but it will avoid hacking away at the customers foundation.

Great informative video Chuck! I just purchased a fixer upper home in VA and it rains allot here. My problem is the crawl space under the entire house is continuously flooded. I think the down spouts are the issue. There are 5 down spouts. My question to you is; how many down spouts can I connect to a french drainage pipe to carry the water to the ditch without over welming the pipe and flow?
@gogokoko8511
@gogokoko8511 Жыл бұрын
I think he says DON'T connect the downspouts to the french drain, in particular it can flood basements (and crawl spaces).

I don’t understand what was done wrong before you fixed it. At 6:40 into video. Were the pipes not connected correctly? Was it wrong to use corrugated pipe? Did the pipe go uphill from the downspout? If the pipe went uphill from the downspout and you dropped it even further at the downspout won’t its connection to the T at the main drain line be higher so it will be uphill too? If running in ground drain catch basins along the side of a house that grades toward the house, to catch water how close together can small drain catch basins be put? Every 6 feet? Thanks.

That short piece of expandable corrigated pipe that collapsed is junk, at best. I have used them for a few years as an above ground (unburied of course) gutter extension. Although that pipe is advertised as 4" diameter, it does not handle leaves anything like a 4" corrigated pipe. Basically, it's a leaf magnet. Since my application was above ground, I could easily clear any blockage. However, once I replaced it with a regular corrigated pipe, leaf problems were much less frequent.

Why 90 at that downspout? Talk about water just losing all its velocity. Longsweep it or 45 it... This entire video raised so many red flags. Pry bar against a client's house, using 90s, using a metal snake in a plastic pipe.. That's all no no's

Qustion, a house im buying which will settle on the 16th has a cinterblock basement, concrete slab on the floor, and the footer looks to be ABOVE the floor, there is a concrete wall 5-6 inchs above the floor and the cinterblocks are sitting on top of it. House was built in 93, has no sump or anything, but a few places the blocks are moist looking during inspection. The lower blocks in a few places were moist with a 19 on the moisture meter the inspector used. The moist wall is the wall thats under the ground the other 3 walls, left and right are half way under and the back wall is the rear door so not under at all. The wall that has moist walls is where the a/c water heater and the filtration and water pressure system are. So even though the basement is finished, its a good 3 feet at least away from this wall. Basically there is a path behind the wall.. None of the 2x4's are wet or have any moisture dmg or mold or anything. So i think im ok for now.. But the blocks that are wet are only wet about 3 inchs up the bottom block. Why is the footer above the concrete slab ? Is that normal ?

This is what will happen when they build hoyses too clise to each other. Otherwise enough space ouy , enough land about 1/2 ac lot, that down spout just need to stay away ….1’ from the hoyse. The land surounding will have more capability soak off, run off rain water

Why didn’t you follow that corrugated pipe to the main line and tie in there? It seems like it would have just been another foot or so. Ugh I have corrugated pipe it can cause so many issues whenever you introduce one tiny piece of dirt and not even flow it’s a bad combination for build up and disaster.

I thought code said you had to go to a drain .. then go underground because it prevents freezing at that 90°

Have no idea where you heard that. In fact, there is very little code on Rainwater Drainage. A lot of people talk about freezing but downspout drains even shallow ones, usually don’t freeze
