When I first had this problem, I found the site, www.nocellpower.com/ and followed the step-by-step instructions, made the video, and the site owner was nice enough to link to this video. That site is no more, but you can still find copies of it on internet archive sites, such as web.archive.org/web/201112290...

I watched this video and one other 4 years ago just because it was there. Walked out to my pool equipment today and could smell burnt wire..Readout says low cell voltage. I had it apart in 5 minutes and repaired another 5 and back together in 5 more. Thanks to you and one other site. Checked today and a new pro logic mother board is $990. not including labor. I did order a new relay switch which is the item that overheats and burns up the connection pin and melts the board. $11 for that relay and will change it one day when it gets cold out. Thanks again.

I was extremely skeptical but in less than 20 minutes I was back in business. The board smelled from the burnt connection but I heated up the ol' soldering gun and applies a generous portion of solder. I just loosed the two nuts, lifted the board, tilted it forward to a laid down position and soldered it in place. both circuit breakers off inside the box. Thanks so much!!! Working perfectly!!!

Was trouble shooting and came across this video. I had called my pool guy and he said most likely needs a new board but also said he’s not a computer guy so he called a tech who said 98% chance it needs a new board. Figured I had nothing to lose so I pulled board out myself and had the connection soldered at a local stereo shop for $20 and I’ll be damned it fixed it. After seeing all the inquiries this should be a recall in my eyes. Just my ex two cents worth maybe one…

Amazing. My unit looked exactly like this. Borrowed a soldering iron from my Father-in-law. Sanded the contact to get rid of the oxidization. Heated it - touched the solder. Let it cool for a minute. Put everything back together and powered everything back up. I did it where it hung all connected but no power. Worked like a charge. Best feeling to see everything working and no "Service" light. Perfect tutorial. Thanks so much !

Just fixed mine. Saved 850.00 for a new one. Thanks a million. If you do it just make sure you practice soldering on something else first and clean the connection with alcohol and toothbrush after you de-solder it. Makes a world of difference. Use flux. Do it right and it will work.

Wow I figured what would be the worst case scenario due to the location of the soder material... I wasn't going to touch any additional circuitry and all power was off . I borrowed a soldering iron from my neighbor who also had the proper soder materials which were designed for electronics , I gave it 4 tests for heat and the perfect puddle, and less than 10 minutes later I was up and running and I could see the amps and the salt system gaining momentum . You saved me big bucks...I I can't than you enough! Can I send booze or flowers lol

I had a brand new motherboard ready to do a quick swap today. When I flipped the current motherboard over and saw a burnt spot, I decided to desolder and resolder one of the K1 legs as you suggested here. 10 minutes later, bam! Power was generated to the T-Cell with readings, and the error ... gone!!!! Had to comment to thank you for saving me $$$.

William, I am having the same issue and wondered if you are running a genuine Hayward chlorinator or a generic version? I am running the generic brand and wonder if this is what caused the board to burn out. One other person on this thread said they are using a generic unit and had this problem. Just trying to get input from several people to determine if I need a genuine part. Thanks.
@wrwills
@wrwills 8 жыл бұрын
Mine is genuine and about 15 years old. I could clearly see the contact point that had burned out. Also (carefully!) with the power on, I applied pressure to this point in the board and the cell starting generating voltage. But be very careful as there's a lot of "hot" wires inside the box, of course.

This happened to me a couple of years ago. I tried twice to solder (or should I say "glob" of solder) it myself and it would work for a month or so and then turn off. I was so happy when it worked though. So more google searching and learning a bit more about soldering I realized you need to know a bit more before patching this up. So I looked up soldering people in my area and lucked out. Found a person who teaches soldering and for $50.00 and a beer he came by with his whole kit and professionally cleaned the area and put the proper solder for this type of system (to withstand the high heat...). I hope I don't jinx myself but two summers went by and no issue. Terrible for Goldline to create such a problem and make unsuspecting people replace their unit. Should be a recall!

Thanks for this fix! 7 years later and still useful. Cant say that for many KZfaq videos. Well my day off to fix this really paid off. Another tip besides the last couple of posts (sanding to take away the molten flux or getting rid of carbonized plastic) is to add lots of rosin. The rosin will prevent the formation of a cold junction. There could be some rosin in your solder, but not enough to rework the bad connection. That is perhaps why some folks here are fixing the K1 relay over and over again. Next time it will happen to me, I will take the board off and etch or scratch the part on the PCB that makes the bad connection to this relay. It may increase the surface area for the current to go through and to make a proper weld. Now I know why they install current limiters on their boards!
@emrysx
@emrysx 8 жыл бұрын
awesome. Thanks for the info. You clearly know much more about soldering than I did when I made the video. I can't remember whether my solder was the kind with rosin in the middle or not now. Ok, so I took it off, and i did not have a burned circuit. However, I did have a small spider cocoon that had formed near the plug-in adapter (white). I cleaned this out, and now the chlorinator is working. Ifound numerous webs throughout the unit. A search on the internet, determined multiple electronic failures (not pool related) due to spider webs. Spiders are drawn to the heat.So, I guess, I will yank cover every year and make sure I am clean. Special thanks for the video!!!!

What is normal running settings on Aqua logic pump timers and chlorinator settings?
@emrysx
@emrysx 10 жыл бұрын
glad it was helpful! The settings depend largely on the time of year. If I'm understanding you right, you're talking about the pump schedule and what % the chlorinator is running at, right? I'm not an expert by any means. In the summer, I tend to run the main pump from about 7-7 or so. As the season changes from winter to spring to summer, I increase the % of chlorinator. Right now I'm at 100%. As it cools off, I'll lower the % and shorten the schedule. During the winter, I tend to only run the pump a little bit during the night.

Hi Drew. I got the error message today & pulled panel exactly as you did and saw same blackened solder point on the back of the board. I just fail to fully comprehend what the repair is exactly. Do I just place a fresh drop of solder on the original one ?. Or do I need to de-solder & replace the K1 part ? In your video you mention "repair that" but it seems its only a new soldering drop. I did try this (twice) and soon after got the same error again. Hope you can let me know. Thanks
@emrysx
@emrysx 10 жыл бұрын
Hey Shawn. If I remember correctly, I removed the original solder (honestly I don't remember if there was any left though) that was blackened and put a new drop to cover that contact completely on the back of the board. I didn't replace the K1 part. I haven't had to repeat this process since last spring, but I'm sure now that I said that I will have to tomorrow. I usually have to do it 3-4 times a year, and more often then not it takes a couple soldering tries to get it to work. If it didn't work after one or two tries, clear off the solder and try again. Sometimes it just takes a few tries, but then you should be good to go for a while.

Shawn Shamgar I recently replaced my cell after about that long. My salt reading kept being inconsistent or lower than it should have been. I suspected that played a role in how often the board had to be repaired, but I can't prove that. At the worst, it's taken me 4 times I think to get the fix to work. Really frustrating, but still way better than spending $500-1500 to replace the board. Good luck!

I really appreciate this. Now I will tackle cleaning my salt cell for the first time in 7 years.. wish me luck. Thanks again

Just fixed mine. Question, the old solder was dark like burnt and almost all gone behind K1. I cleaned it up as best I could using the braid and put new solder, turned it on and it's working. I'm just a little skeptical that the repair will last. Anyone have any thoughts?

All I know is that I used to have to do it every few months. It wasn't consistent. But I haven't had to do it in a couple of years now. Not sure if I just finally got it right or some other variable is in play. Good news is that even if it lasts only a few months, it's a quick and free fix.

Thanks for the info. It cost me $28 for the soldering iron. That's a lot better than $500 for a new panel. This is our second panel in 5 years. The capacitors went on the first one after a lightning strike. Anyway, thanks again!!

This worked for me, too, but I have a bigger issue someone can help with. The circuit breaker that my pump and crawler pump are one tripped while both were running. This has happened in the past and usually it's fine when I shut off the pump at the Aqualogic control panel and this flip the breaker back. This time it didn't work, neither pump would turn back on. No hum, nothing. I removed the pumps and had them tested by a machine shop and they said they work. (cont.)

I followed your directions and everything worked perfect, however about 2 hours later my pool turned green. I'm not sure what to do now. If you know what has occurred let me know. Thank you!

Hmm, that's really strange. The whole pool? I believe those two things may be unrelated. Not sure I can see how turning your cell back on would cause algae to all of the sudden bloom. You were re-enabling the saltwater to chlorine transition, which would slow down such a thing, not accelerate it. Sounds like a coincidence and a common algae bloom. Was your pump/filter off for a while before you fixed the cell? If so, I wonder if you had a bloom in the works and it came out once you turned everything back on.

I did have the filter off for a few hours during the day. the salt level reads 3200 PPM and everything on the readouts look good. I backwashed and added two 40 lb. bags of salt. I hope it clears up tomorrow. We shall see.

I shocked the pool with 3 gallons of liquid shock and 1 gallon of algaecide on Monday. The pool looks great and all the settings on the aqualogic panel seems to be working with no errors. The issue I have now is that my lights in the pool are not going on. My lights were working fine before the no cell power error. Once the error occurred I noticed the lights weren't working. Do you think this has anything to do with this? I really appreciate your input. Thanks!

Not sure which speeds you're referring to. Before you did the solder job, both speeds worked, and after, only one? My first thought, without knowing what speeds you're talking about, are that some connection came loose from the board while you worked on it. Check all the cables and wires. The place you soldered has nothing to do with pump speed, or pump anything, in fact.

Wish I had something helpful to say here. I'm not much of an expert on the system as a whole. You could try the forum at the nocellpower website. Someone there might be helpful.

Al Wells Is it the white plastic connector things that's preventing you from getting it out? I used a screw driver to press on one side of the white things and worked the board off of them one at a time.

I finally got it off. Where do I find the damaged part? It is the K1 G8P-1C4P OMRON. Made in China

Al Wells Good. With the issue and the fix in my video, I didn't order a new part, I just re-soldered it. It was pretty obvious on the back which one needed to be re-soldered. It was black/brown and a little burned out. Haven't had to re-do the solder in over a year now, which is a record. Usually I have to resolder every few months.
