I truly thought in the year 2024 we had moved past this mentality about body piercings and modifications, but I guess not! It baffles me that people associate piercings with being dirty or unclean with just ho much cleaning and hygiene goes into getting and having piercings. Piercers are consistently some of the mosy hygienic people I know!

People who think piercings are dirty are the same people who got their baby's ears pierced at Claire's. I have a lot of piercings, and I keep them clean all the time for almost 30 years.

Thank you for bringing up the tie to struggling with hygiene and mental health. This idea of shaming people who don’t have proper hygiene is not ok. Autistic people like myself also struggle with hygiene due to sensory issues, not because we’re “nasty people”.

Seconded. As an autistic person who loves piercings (took me until now in my 30s to finally get them though lol) I struggle with sensory issues. I do however keep my piercings clean especially the healing ones because I’ve hyper fixated a bit haha (I don’t clean too much though! 🥰)

I am moderately pierced person and was told when I started my piercing journey at age eighteen (now in my 40's) that piercings are an incredible amount of work. I believe my piercer said that having piercing are like having children they must be looked after and cared for properly and the more you have, the more care must be taken. This always stuck with me.

Yes! My family was of the facial piercings are dirty club and because of that I waited so much longer to get my piercings. I wish I hadn’t listened to them, I would have gotten my piercing so much sooner

I've never understood stereotypes like this, and also never understood the stereotype of peircings making someone look "Cheap and trashy". I've got over 25 peircings and they take alotttaaa time, money, and effort to keep looking and feeling nice, especially cuz I have very sensitive skin. Thank you for touching on topics that you don't really see discussed! It's always a pleasure to see an upload! ♡

Sadly, there are still so many prejudices against body piercings. They're seen as something "dirty" also symbolically. I remember a dermatologist who visited me and as soon as he spotted my hafadas he immediately asked if I was a "nice guy" and if I had had risky sexual behaviours. 😓

I’ve never heard about what you said. The problematic is more on the style of the person. Lots of people told me: « come on you don’t have the style to have piercings ». That’s perhaps true but I don’t care 😀
