MESA, Arizona - Good old father's advice and simple foods are credited with helping a Valley man reach a milestone birthday.
"Eat properly and get your rest," recommends Bernando LaPallo.
Words to live by considering the Mesa resident was born in Brazil in 1901 and has lived to be 110 years old.
"They had no automobiles, no airplanes I saw them all come about," remembered LaPallo.
LaPallo claims he's never been sick a day in his life. He walks every morning and eats mostly organic fruits and veggies.
"People ask me what do you do to stay so young," LaPallo explained. "I say, 'Well you've heard the old saying, you are what you eat.'"
So what's LaPallo's secret? Five foods: garlic, honey, cinnamon, chocolate and olive oil.
"Use olive oil on your skin," LaPallo said. "Rub your feet rub your arms you'll never rust."
Healthy habits LaPallo picked up from his father, a doctor, who lived to be 98.
Full story at ABC 15
www.abc15.com/news/region-sout...
"He told me not to eat ordinary red meat," expressed LaPallo. "He said lamb is okay but red meat, stay away from it. Hot dogs, french fries and all those things don't eat it."
LaPallo keeps his brain sharp by being a voracious reader, solving crossword puzzles and playing checkers.
"I can remember things my father told me when I was 8 years old," LaPallo recalled.
A father who showed his son how to have a rich life worth living.
"And he taught me how to live, how to eat and to have faith in God and he would take care of me," smiled LaPallo. "And so far it has happened."

KM, in the instruction manual (The Bible) you will find that the manufacturer (GOD) created our perfect bodies to run on plant based foods. Read Genesis 1: 29, but after Adam and Eve committed sin, He instructed us on which animals were clean to eat and which ones were unclean to eat. Read Leviticus 11. So if I get cancer I will still trust GOD and continue to eat plant based food. I know where I’m going when I die so I’m not worried. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, if you’re a believer.

When he mentioned chocolate I kind of believed him because my grandma grew up with chocolate and she's as young as ever at 83! She also doesn't eat excessively, keep an active lifestyle, and most importantly thinks simply. She has a great sense of humor as well and even with a rough background (grew up during the war, husband left her, etc) she still has a positive attitude towards life and people.

The virus was lethal with the oldest people, but not being able to exercise, not being able to have your vitamin D and not being able to breathe the fresh air... Man, I was 22 and into bodybuilding when it started and after the confinements I could just barely walk a bunch of stairs. Imagine being 110... I’ve got a 99 year old relative. Some people in there mid 40s were talking to him and telling him how blessed he was to live to such an age. He told me he bit his tongue and said thank you, but inside he said he wished he could lift his leg high enough to kick them in the crotch! Then tell them the truth about being old. It’s painful days and nights, the most simplest task are done with pain, agony and suffering! So the next time you see an old person, don’t tell them how blessed they are! Tell them the truth! That the old person is a lot tougher then they are!

@@oeuf123456 The things he listed are a huge part of my diet. Especially good grade Olive Oil. I’ve come along way with sugar. While I love a good dessert and good food, I ensure that balance is always at the forefront. I make a lot of my food from scratch to avoid preservatives and unnecessary ingredients. The other things I don’t miss on are my berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries), vegetables in great variety, lots of fish and minimal fried foods. I also make sure to incorporate meatless meals at least once or twice a week (going for more like 30% of our meals this year with the garden). I’ve never remained skinny for long in my life (lol), most recently due to having surgery, but I’ve never had one issue related to my vital organs or the diseases associated with them. Hope that helps. Happy, healthy living to you!

They lived up the mountains in Sparta, Greece, breathing fresh and clean air and eating organic food from materials coming from their back yard and their neighbors’ farms. Strictly Mediterranean diet, with more than half of the year being vegan (due to religion). They left in peace, never had any memory or cognitive issues, only leaving the mountains at the age of about 90 years old.

@Hans von Zettour that only applies if you're old or you arent very healthy. if you're a healthy young person and you die in your sleep thats a freak accident with less than a 1 in a billion chance of happening. you're more likely to win the powerball lottery than to die in your sleep for no explainable cause
