Күн бұрын

This week we take a closer look at twined knitting, which is a technique where we knit with two yarns to create extra warm and waterproof garments.

Hi guys. Thanks for this lesson. I have to make at least one of these hats, maybe more, for the kids in my community that dont have a warm hat this year. Ms Dee's Quick Tip: Find a mediun to large lazy Susan (turn table) and put a bowl for each ball on top of it. Put your yarn balls in the bowls. When you need to untanngle the yarn just turn the lazy susan to untangle. With a little bit of practice you can even put the floor and turn it as you go with your foot so you never get tangled to begin with. 💖💞💖 I hope your day is an amazing one.

To untwist the yarn, just keep the yarn in a bowl and then swivel the bowl holding the yarn. That should untwist it. Very simple. Love this stitch.

Dear Arne and Carlos, one of the things I am most grateful for is how you always seem to teach us several things in one video - not only twine knitting and rolling balls 😁 but also smaller things like ways of decreasing stitches, holding the yarn etc. I just had a „wait, let’s try that decrease Arne used in that video I watched yesterday“ -moment while knitting a pair of toddler mittens with a fox face on them, and my usual way of decreasing just didn’t look nice in the face..... so, it’s just a small little thing, but it makes me so happy. Thank you very much!

I would go with 'traditional wisdom' rather than 'old wives tales'. :o) This year, I've made about 60 hats. Almost all of them have been donated to a charity that works with refugees. My next hat will be this one, and I'll definitely be giving Arne's mother's method a try. It looks really useful for lots of different patterns where two colours are used equally.

I agree! An old wive`s tale has usually the connotation of a story that musn`t necessariliy be true but is more of a superstition, a fairy tale or such. Old folk wisdom or traditional wisdom handed down from generation to generation would be more appropriate :-D

Or just use the lovely term „elderly female domestic engineer“ like Dr Karl (Dr Karl Kruszelnicki) does in his podcasts. It may look ironic when written down, but I think refering to homemaking duties as a speciality is actually quite appropriate! 😊

Always learning something new from you two. I've never seen yarn wound that way - great idea Arne's mother had. If it takes Arne that long to do twined knitting - yikes - would take me a whole lot longer, but I think it would be worth it to have such a warm and water-resistant hat. Really look forward to your Sunday videos. Thank you.

I am working on the 2023 Advent Sock. I had to pull out after day two. My guage was too big. I wound the yarns like Arne shows his mom did with Twined Knitting. It works LIKE A CHARM. I am very happy I came across this video. I also went back to DPN needles and knit the toe and three clues in an evening. LOL, Jazz hands...I'm watching the Day 6 video now.

As you knit and after you have explained a new technique, I wish you would continue to talk of your country, your home, growing up, do you have pets, the weather, what dad n mom taught you. Just TALK!! So interesting. AN OLD CUSTOM, is what you were looking to say about the winding of the balls.

Thank you, I'm learning to knit. I'm left handed, so nobody showed me, trial and error. First I did weird stitches, but they were even, so it looked ok. I made flat things and sewed then together. I made some catnip mice, and modified that shape to use as thumbs for a few pairs of mittens. Then I wanted to do double knit to be warmer, I did it by twisting exactly like you did in this video!!! I just keep knitting ..
