When you go to a lower turn motor, the motor is meant to spin at higher RPM (Higher kV). You must change the pinion gear to a smaller pinion gear to prevent the motor from overheating. Utilizing the stock pinion gear that came with the vehicle (usually larger for a higher turn motor. The stock motor is typically a brushed 27 turn Mabuchi type one), will cause too much current draw from the ESC and over tax the motor, ESC and Battery because it cannot spin up as quickly as it should. Higher turn motors have more torque and run at lower RPM so they can handle a larger pinion gear, Lower turn motors like the 12T I see here are lower torque higher RPM and need smaller pinion gears.

a 12 turn motor is very hot, i.e it draws a lot of current and will heat up fast, i used to use 19 turn motors on an old e-maxx and they were bad enough. best advice is throw the motor, esc and nm-hi pack in the bin that's shit old tech now, buy yourself a brushless motor and esc kit and swap over to li-po battery packs, you will have 3x the power and 3x the fun, you might break the drive shafts with all the power brushless has. once a brushed motor gets so hot it melts the soldier joints its only fit for the bin.

Replace the ecm! It’s got a bad resistor that’s spiking the amperage to the motor. Had this same thing happen on a hvac unit a few times.

The problem that you are having may relate to a short in the esc, it may be causing some of the power to be combining in the motor.
@parkeredwards37633 жыл бұрын
If you have an esc of another truck you may be able to test it with that and see if the problem persists. I personally run brushless motors but I have seen this happen.

I recommend looking into a brushless blx setup I run lipo batteries but the spektrum esc and motors are quick and easy but this being said everything drive train is different the run steel carrier and bigger mesh of pinion and spur. Brushless will chew these mega clutch spur quick. That was with a 3s batteries going full beans. Do not cheap out on esc and motor there are several other companies with bigger and better but it's easier to find stock replacements almost burn my senton to the ground with a goolrc but it was not the correct amperage later I found out when I found the box. Also if debris is a problem I suggest the big rock bumper and body. I'm actually running a out cast 6s fbody on my senton with big rock bumpers. Or swap a rear bumper for a wheelie bar and go granite body whatever you do if you're going to race trade the side bumpers for the big rock skirts to help with the mess. To come back to reply here the mega esc are cheap and easy to find it's just how long does it have. Can't complain I got a granite mega for 6 months no issues with it. Kind of cool to see this after stumbling upon the channel with the daily technician talk and shop noises makes me miss shop work now I'm a counter men and customers are something else. Also hello from the 406

I'm in the hobby and those brushed motors are garbage, go with a traxxas 550 12t or if you can find them a helion 550 12t oh and while your at it buy some electric motor cleaner for rc hobby motors or buy the arrma brushed esc/motor combo. Make sure you do a good break-in for brushed motors. Hobbywing esc/motor combo 60amp with the program card for 1/10 scale and it's brushless so you will need a lipo battery with a lipo charger.

I went brushless and upgraded all my rc's with mip axles otherwise much plastic axle snappage is in your future.

Too much gearing for that motor. Try to change your pinion and spur gear to a lower gear ratio.
@dyizhere3 жыл бұрын
That motor is a 12T and the stocker was probably a 27T.
@dyizhere3 жыл бұрын
@Klip One nothing to do with friction. Put it this way....if you have a big mud truck with big tires and a v8, it’s optimized to run with that setup with that gearing. You then pull the original v8 that came with the truck and put in a 4 cylinder. Obviously that 4 cylinder has to work harder to turn the drivetrain but it can’t, which causes heat from strain.
@TheMetalsoft092 жыл бұрын
Brushed motors with Fans are known for this. Traxxas has the same issue. Horrible design. Just go brushless or replace with a brushed motor without a so called " cooling fan "

ESC** not ECU.
@MrDueyx993 жыл бұрын
did you buy this new? I wonder as well if the gearing is too tall for the stock 12t motor, but that does not explain the motor running too hot while bench testing. Brushed motors with a bit of timing built in, will run harder one way, and slower the other. If the truck is setup to run the motor on the slower direction, it will surely overheat. I would think that you would notice this while pulling the trigger and the truck goes into reverse, unless there is a throttle reversing switch on the radio, im not sure which radio you have.
@RainmanRaysRepairs3 жыл бұрын
Yea everything is stock and I bought it new. The gearing is stock also. After it roasted the second motor I replaced the speed controller and it smoked another 12t. I just installed one last motor which is the Arrma OE 12t (the other replacements we different manufactures) If it does it again I'm just going to convert it to brushless.
@MrDueyx993 жыл бұрын
@@RainmanRaysRepairs ive only had experience with the traxxas 550 size 12 turn motors, they are junk as well, it does not surprise me that the motor arrma is using is no good for this app., probably fine for a 2wd sct, but not a 4wd
@DakalaShade3 жыл бұрын
@@RainmanRaysRepairs From someone who has experienced both brushed and brushless RC trucks, going brushless would still be a good idea. More torque, more runtime. Can't blindly bash it through water, admittedly, but there's a lot of potential. Just keep in mind, if you drop a brushless motor in there, be prepared to start replacing transmission components, because that extra torque has to go somewhere. I like to leave a mechanical fuse, an easy-to-replace part that you carry spares for, a part you know will give up long before you risk damage. I don't know Arrma at all, but for my Traxxas Rustler VXL, that easy part is the ring gear. I kept mine plastic, because I'd rather strip all of the teeth off of my gear and spend ten minutes opening the cover, swapping in a new gear, and putting it back together than to spend two weeks waiting on transmission parts again.
@RainmanRaysRepairs3 жыл бұрын
@@DakalaShade I like your logic why regards to a mechanical fuse. I think that's exactly what I'll do when this 12 burns up again. For the money I spent on the 2s setup and replacement motors, I should could have bought a brushless to begin with. I knew better.
@jalee65872 жыл бұрын
Motor is too low on turns. Arrma senton drivetrain is very power hungry also. Lots of parasitic loss in all the plastic gears. Go with brushless and stay under 4000kv rated motor.

12T motor; well there's yer problem right there. It needs a motor with less turns on the com. 12 turn motors are for the high end RC trucks; Traxxas, Losi or Team Associated. Not to mention, you can tell just by looking at it that the motor itself is cheesy cheap. High end RC motors aren't factory sealed, can be torn down in minutes, and the brushes are mounted outside the casing for just this reason. I'd say you got a few hundred bucks the way it sits, but the rigs the pros use are several grand (and up)
