Owning a 3D printer and knowing how to 3D print are two different things and with the affordability of 3D printing these days, there are massive amounts of NEW and first time people joining the world of 3D printing. I wanted to help show beginners how to build and work with their very own printing profile for their machine and filaments which will also help them understand their NEW machine workings as well as how slicers work to control the print. I hope people will get some comfort in playing, adjusting and or fiddling with-in the slicer after seeing how easy it really can be.
Here is the start G-Code if needed
G28 ; home all axes
M117 ; Purge extruder
G92 E0 ; reset extruder
G1 Z1.0 F3000 ; move z up little to prevent scratching of surface
G1 X2 Y20 Z0.3 F5000.0 ; move to start-line position
G1 X2 Y150 Z0.3 F1500.0 E15 ; draw 1st line
G1 X2 Y150.0 Z0.4 F5000.0 ; move to side a little
G1 X2 Y20 Z0.4 F1500.0 E30 ; draw 2nd line
G92 E0 ; reset extruder
G1 Z2.0 F3000 ; move z up little to prevent scratching of surface

Nearly turned the video off at the beginning as you just sprinted through the profile settings without explaining what they were but glad I continued to watch it as that was really useful. Will definitely be trying that out tomorrow. Thank you, liked and subbed 👍

If you were using Cura you'd be able to alter the print speed at regular intervals automatically in the resulting gcode when the model is sliced. The same for temps. Relieves you from having to babysit the printer to do it manually.
@CaM203
@CaM203 3 жыл бұрын
You can do that in S3D as well but the whole point is to babysit it and make changes visually.

@@CaM203 without looking at what already is out there, some suggestions for beginner videos: most common printing errors (what are they, how to recognize, how to fix them), maybe someting about the different filaments and what the pointers are to consider ( slower speeds, adjusted temps, hardened nuzzles and which ones), finaly maybe a video about finishing techniques (painting, spraying, varnishing, the acetone-mist-box, maybe other finishingtechniques).

Hello Cameron, I send you a greeting from Spain. Very good your video and detailed explanation of the profile. I have an Artillery Genius and I am with first impressions. But I have a problem, I can't get a good finish on the BENCHY model (the typical test boat). Could you please give me a good profile for this benchy model? Can't find the correct setting for my printer over Simplify3D softw :-(

Hi, great video, i am using Cura and was satisfied till now with this slicer, but now something strange happens, when i take the same settings that you did, 1 wall count, no infill, brim support.. etc... cura only sets different printing predictions till 30mm/s... if i go higher... even to 100mm/s, the predicted time wont change... and more frustrating.. it will even print only with 30mm/s.. regardless of what i configure... do you have an idea where these restriction might come from ? Thank you in advance!

7:55 But why do you want the motors to run constantly? Is it for testing purpose only, or is this recommended for every print?
@CaM203
@CaM203 3 жыл бұрын
When printing a model it's very unlikely the motors are only ever working in one direction at a time... unless you're just printing a flat wall or cube. So I want to adjust my setting with full movement of the machine. If I were to just run the box only at 90˚ the X axis would only be running, then stop... move around corner then the Y axis would only be running, then stop... move around the corner and if this was a cube with no radius corners it would only ever be running one motor at a time... so I feel that is not practical when actually printing a model of any kind ( other then a wall or cube ) so that is why I want full machine travel engagement. Hope that make some sense. Thanks for the question.

This is a great tutorial, but when I enter all the same set points my print takes 32 minutes where yours shows 12 minutes
@CaM203
@CaM203 3 жыл бұрын
My only guess would be there is still a setting reducing the speed or the model is double the hight. Make sure under 'SPEEDS' the setting 'adjust printing speed for layers below' is NOT checked. That would reduce printing time for sure.

You would be so much better off creating your own - with the different filaments and slight differences in machines you will get so much better results with your own custom profile. You will also learn how to quickly create new profiles for new filaments. I have a different profile for almost every filament I have.

I have not had really tried anything other then this program. I would say what ever program you choose as long as you can learn to set it up properly it really shouldn’t matter. From what I see as long as you learn how the program works it really shouldn’t matter the software.
