I finally finished the engine, have the fuel pump rebuilt and working and have it all mounted on it's new stand and wheels. I made a little control panel with a switch and indicator lamp. And had to resolder up the carb fuel float.

I tried to buy a Dillon outfit when they first appeared on the market in the 1980s without success. No mail order and all the tool and machinery places just said bad things about them but one. The salesman there said they were magic once you got it set up and he mentioned low pressure regulators that nobody could source. Hard part was the purchase as you virtually had to buy it as a kit of spare parts. I gave up and bought a Comet 3. It will be good to see how you go on the panels when the time comes. Dominic Chinea had a panel builder on his channel that used a British outfit that looked like a Comet 3 and did welds that were next to invisible in aluminium. A true craftsman.

I think that was Geoff Moss probably. The problem for amateurs like me is I don't have the time or experience to put into it to become a craftsman. You have to just do the best you can with limited experience. You have to do a good job on your first few attempts because they are likely to be your ONLY attempts!

You've done a lovely job on it! I really think you should expand the panel to include a tacho and temp gauge, though. Then you just need to find something to drive with it. 🙂

I'll keep looking for a suitable tach. Top speed is only about 3000 rpm I think. Not sure I need temp. I suspect it's very well cooled since it sits stationary and I won't have any load on it. But it is running with retarded spark which isn't great I think but I have never found an indication of how many degrees is too much.

Ticks over sweet

I don't imagine it's had much running in the past!

That's a sweetly-running little engine, and sympathetically done to keep the patina. How about a belt-driven lifter/conveyor for firewood deliveries? Or water pumping for garden irrigation?

I could add a small alternator maybe? Power something off that.

That was an enjoyable "quick little film" I probably got a little too much enjoyment when it refused to start for the camera... I feel a little bit bad about that. I am kind of worried that you're going to run out of stuff to do. Cheers

Ended up a bit long but I just wanted to get it finished and go onto other things. Long weekend this week (Thursday and Friday off) so am hoping to be good enough to start on the Riley skin.

@@asciimation I'm really looking forward to seeing how the Riley skin is done. I know you don't usually film you doing stuff, but I'd like to see a little of the technic.

@@shedbythetracks I'll see what I can do. Which reminds me I keep forgetting to mention a little channel I found where he shows making a steel framed, aluminium skinned car. Including the aluminium gas welding. Look up 'Gasolini'.
