She is garbage......just wait until the next "major tournament" where all of the top players participate, and you will find her out of it before the quarters. Barty is looking good against players who have not made their mark yet. Barty has one major title, the "French Open", but guess who else has just one? Sloan Stephens and Jelena Opstapeko were both major title winners in 2017.....I repeat 2017. Neither of them has won a major since. Barty is playing the minors for points to remain top seed............ she has to because she knows she's out early in the majors.

What I like the most from Ash Barty is her cool demeanor... No grunting, no drama, no excessive fist pump or annoying point celebration... She let her tennis do the talk.... She really deserves to be #1

Yup, Ash Barty, putting her head down, playing smart, constructing points and using her head, getting it done without annoying grunting, nor excessive loud “come-ons!”. Such a humble champion. Need more respectable champions like this. Love her.

I really wish she played with this same mental strength against Muchova AO 2021. Once Ash reads your game, she’s able to predict every move and counter then turn to offense. She completely took Sabalenka off pace and had her just lost on the court. It’s like she used that first set to study Sabalenka. Well done!!

She adapts so quickly. Since AO she waits for a mental weakness in her opponent (as you say studies in the 1st set) and doesn't lose focus by medical timeouts (which her opponents seem to have more). What a learner! Note, when under 10, her coach would tell her opponent of Ash's weaknesses. So Ash would learn, often through failure, to adapt. This was built on strongly supportive values.

Ash proving to Sabalenka once again that power alone does not win championships. Such superb tennis from Ash today and what a spectacular 25th birthday weekend right? Winning the Porsche Grand Prix AND that beautiful car makes for a very nice birthday present to herself. No one deserves all this success more than Ash in my opinion. I remember years ago when she used to be so emotional when she struggled and a bit down on herself so it's magnificent to see what a cold and calculated monster she's become on the tennis court while also remaining so humble with all the success. Thanks for the magnificent tennis Ash Barty and CONGRATS!

Because Ash is not a huge ball basher and prefers variety and tennis smarts over hitting the fluff off the ball, I've often found that her game is under appreciated. Barty's game harks back to 90's tennis. When it was more about variety and tennis craft than hitting bullets. I'm glad she is shutting up the haters with her incredible tennis right now

Can we just appreciate the fact that Ash's winning these three setters against high quality players whilst playing doubles as well. She's playing the doubles finals with Jen Brady after this. Absolute No 1, no doubt.

@@seaweed1992 To be fair, Sabalenka is a very successful doubles player. But have to admit, I've never watched any of her matches with her doubles partner Mertens but will gladly watch a doubles match that features Ash. Her guile, reflexes, shot selection and execution are outstanding.

Demonstration that just power cant dominant against finesse and variety , saba improved compared to previous years but everything shes doing is unstable and inconsistent, barty knows how to play tennis, i hope aryna will learn (more)as well, good luck both.

Barty is so damn steady....she has all the shots (forehand..BH...slice..) and moves very well. Her serve is among (if not the best)the best in the WTA.

I love the way Ash play. She is so quick to go forward to the net when the opponent is stretched behind the baseline and the slice and inside out forehand. Seems to me that she has added a few new techniques.

@@davidgivins4203 um, I don't think you're aware of this tennis term. She is what's known as a natural volleyer, which a lot of past Australian players exhibit. For example, Federer had to add volleying to his game, as too did many other players like Ivan Lendl in his desperation to win Wimbledon. Can't think of the whole host of other players, but Lendl never looked and would never be natural. I suppose it is something taught at a young age and you need the talent in the first place. Barty is most definitely a natural volleyer with her technique, feel and soft hands.

Barty was such a class act, it's such a shame that she decided to retire right after she developed and honed such a complete and crafty style of play, her retirement interview was humble, touching and human, no bogus sentmentality or drama-mongering; Miss Ashleigh I miss you but I also wish you all the best outside the tour

Two fabulous players.Barty’s game is fascinating to watch.She is so deceptive in the way she moves.So graceful.She looks slower like many great movers but she always gets there.Aryna is so charismatic and dramatic.I hope we see a major from her soon.Her passion and desire is infectious.Great to see.The women’s game is chock full of wonderful characters right now.

At this point (not adjusted for point won at Madrid and Rome) Barty will take a 171 point lead into the French Open 2021. So if Osaka and Halep don’t make it further through the draw than Barty she’s likely to retain the number 1 ranking.

I watched the match. Sabalenka unraveled in the last 2 sets - not sure how much was her own doing and how much was Barty's play to disrupt her rhythm, probably both. Sabalenka had trouble reading/returning Barty's 1st serves. It wasnt a dominant performance by Barty but a smart play for sure.

Barty is playing like a reigning world no.1 now. Stunning anticipation and mentality. Well-deserved champion! Sabalenka totally lose her rhythm in the third. But it is already a good run for sure. Keep going!

First saw Barty play at the Nottingham 250 in 2016. She had some crafty slice shots back then, but her forehand wasn't in the same league as it is now. She's like a different player now.
