@@TheLarryburns84 That and the fact that it was in lots of homecomputers back then. This produced a LOT of people able to program in assembly language. Those older machines have a simplicity that people can more easily understand - and then work around their limitations like not a lot of memory. This can also create a challenge like especially with the Atari VCS 2600 console (very limited RAM, very limited graphics). A well-established architecture like the Z80 (or 6502 or 68K) can last decades if adoption and support is good. Several of those CPU architectures are now mostly sold as "modules" to implement in custom chips which of course need to be programmed, too...

A Commodore 64 was my very first computer in 1988 at age 10. Many fond memories of it, I still occasionally fire up an emulator to play some old favourites. Amused that you mentioned not typing out long theses on it... my mum did all the assignments for her graduate diploma degree on it in 1993 AND crashed the 64K of ram on a regular basis while doing so!

That variable resistor on the Commodore 64 is to tune the tv channel into your TV. I had the Commodore 64 and the white C64. But even better was the Amiga that followed it. I bought an Amiga 500 after watching a copy of Dune II on it. That game was amazing. I had an Amiga 500 and an Amiga 1200 that even had a proper hard drive that I modded to the beast. 600mb of storage was a lot in those days. I miss Commodore.

I don't know why anyone would be angry at the ad at the start. I'm happy he makes money doing what he loves. In my opinion, the ad was as entertaining as the rest of it. The ad consisted of him giving commentary on a product, just like the rest of the video. BUT ALSO, you feel the joy of knowing that he made more money on that bit of the video. That is, assuming you wish him well. I get the vibe that many in several comments sections would like to know that off camera, their favorite creators are living in cardboard boxes.

People whose content consists of their opinions about things (i.e reviews) shouldn't be so easily swayed into promoting things by money. It creates a clear conflict of interest and renders their opinion on all things questionable. There's also the fact that people don't like being advertised to. And the fact that "in-video" ads such as this are not "skippable" unless you know where it ends. Plus, it's at the beginning of the video, meaning the content you came to see is after the ad. If sponsorships are at the end of a video you can click away without losing anything.

MSX was actually educational standard in Eastern Bloc for some time. I remember rows of MSXs from my elementary school in mid to late '80s, there were clones of ZX Spectrum used also but MSX was standard and even bussiness and educational software was created for them in big numbers. After that, Apple II clones and Atari ST shortly replaced them (Atari ST was pretty common as bussiness and office machine in early '90s) but DOS machines replaced them around 1994-1995, but even in early 2000s you still can see 16-bit machines in classrooms as back-up or as first introduction for first graders. Hell, I have vague memory of my teacher in kindergarden, using I think CBM's VIC-20 for playing funny sounds and showing simple matching games.

8:36 The screw-adjustment there is probably for changing the channel of the RF output. Do you remember that VCR's used to have them, too? When Channel 5 started, they had to send people round to everyone's house to adjust them because it broadcast on this previously reserved area of the spectrum (around channel 37, if I recall)

MSX was a big thing in Japan and some parts of Europe. Beside the MSX1 model, there's also MSX2, MSX2+, and MSX turbo R models. There were tons of games released for the MSX2 specifically, so a MSX2 definitely recommended over a MSX1, especially since they're backwards compatible with most MSX1 softwares. By the way, in case anyone is wondering: Ashens showed Knightmare, a Japanese 60Hz game, being played on 50Hz mode, meaning that the game and music were playing slower than intended.

Technology moves hella fast. The 68K architecture was king back then, x86 and PowerPC later took over, PowerPC fell off and ARM came to take its place and really those are the two main combatants in the CPU market nowadays, ARM and x86. Granted it's way more complex than that since there's many other architectures out there and things like PowerPC and the 68K still live on in niche applications like embedded systems and servers. Computers truly are amazing

When it comes to KZfaq, which is still free to watch, and where a lot of us spend a lot of time on, there's a refusal to accept that these people that provide us entertainment need to eat and pay bills. We use adblocks on their pages and complain that they are sponsored. We've been paying for tv licences, watching ads on tv, paying Netflix, Prime, cinema tickets, Spotify, etc. for years now. Even when we torrent we are aware that that is paid content. We've been paying for entertainment, yet, every single time one of these people who post the videos we enjoy, dare to gain some cash out of it, we enrage like savages. HOW DARE THEY.

Excellent video, as usual. The Commodore 64 was the second computer I ever used, back in the mid-80s (the first one was the Vic-20, also from Commodore). It was also the first computer I ever had online, in 1995. An extra-speedy 1200 baud, and even though the ISP I was using was the Greater Columbus Freenet, no gui, just very basic ASCII, uphill, both ways, (cough) But while I no longer have my original C64 I do have a C64C that works great. Found it at a local thrift store a few years back for $4.94USD because the store didn't realize it wasn't just a keyboard :)

Not sure if you're a lawyer but you don't need to be discussing a person's video in order for it to qualify for fair use. The fact 6 people upvoted you even though you're wrong is pretty hilarious though. In order for there to even be ANY case at all worth pursuing, it would need to be used for at least more than 30s. It was used for 5s. Get over yourselves before you try to be internet lawyers.

Excellent video. I've owned or still have a selection of these. ZX Spectrum: 16 and 48K model were available at the same time, then 16K was discontinued Commodore 64: Next to TV is an adjustment for TV channel, then you have monitor, and serial port most often used for floppy drive and printer, then tape deck, then user port Acorn Electron: The floppy driver unit was called the Plus 3. I have one, and it uses 3.5" disks. Toshiba MSX: It was indeed the most popular MSX computer here in the UK Dragon 32: The little expansion connector is the parallel printer port. Also, there were compatibility issues with the TRS-80, which was actually the TRS-80 Colour(Color) Computer. Easier to look this up for info. Also of course, that's 32K rather than MB.
