I've been in the process of starting a new freelance web dev business since being laid off due to covid. Normally I'd be crippled with anxiety due to all the life changes, but Ash and Theanine are making the transition a breeze, everything is smooth and chill. Theanine is also magic for my social anxiety.

I have tried both of these herbs, and I would say you are spot on. Very well presented, and researched. I take 200 mg of L-theanine at 5 AM, and then take a second 200 mg dose somewhere around lunchtime (1 o'clock or so). If I go to 3 o'clock or so I can definitely feel the anxiety coming back. I've read they last about 12 hours so that's not too far off. I initially tried L-theanine three or four years ago and gave up because I thought it wasn't doing anything. I think this reinforces the fact that really has no side effects to speak of. I pretty much feel like myself, but I just find that things that would normally get my mind racing or put me into a bit of a panic just don't happen. L-theanine does not obliterate anxiety, nor would I really want it to. It does get rid of the annoying extreme anxieties. Maybe not so good if you have to go out and fight Tigers! LOL For the rest of us mere mortals it does pretty well though! And to your comment about cortisol. I find I still have every bit as much muscle tension. I fall into the generalized anxiety disorder group, and then during more stressful times I can get panic attacks or close to them. It's during that more extreme panic that cortisol is released, and that can cause muscles to tighten up. So to put another way L-theanine is probably better for more every day type stress. I love the fact I can have a cup of coffee and it will not put me over the edge. L-theanine and coffee go really well together, almost enhancing each other. Pretty cool really. I'm not so sure I would want to take 400 mg of L-theanine on a longer-term basis. I'm heading on an international flight in a couple of weeks so my level is a bit higher than normal. Ashwaganda's affect on me is pretty much as you described as well. I can still work okay on it, but I can definitely feel more sedation from it. I have to admit I like the feeling a bit better. As you mentioned it affects cortisol, and this can be more relaxing to the muscles. My body just feels more relaxed. Side effects? Yes, some. After three or four days I noticed it started effecting my digestive system. Most notably some looser stools, but not diarrhea or anything. Sorry if that's a bit graphic, just keeping it real here. I also noticed the effect on testosterone. I felt much more energized and manic in the morning, not to mention it had some effect on my libido. Not so sure I would want to take this every day long-term. Some people may like that feeling though. I'd rather have coffee wake me up. I don't like waking up with my mind racing. I have tried the two in combination, although the effects don't really seem cumulative. I think you could pretty much stop one and go on the other. Might be a good way to make both of them more effective, so the body doesn't build up any tolerance?. Don't have enough evidence to say one way or the other if that works. I could not find any evidence if you could take something like a benzodiazepine (Xanax) with L-theanine, so I made myself the guinea pig. Again, I didn't really feel as though the effects were cumulative. I felt the normal effects of the benzos, namely less muscle tension, a little more manic, less inhibited. All typical benzo reactions for me. I don't feel they were exaggerated, so again I don't feel the effects of L-theanine and a benzodiazepine are amplified. The one very noticeable difference though was when the Xanax wore off. I was totally drained and felt very lethargic. It's possible this was an isolated incident, and I don't really feel as though it's indicative of what the effects would be like for others. Not even sure if it would affect me the same way twice, but I've taken Xanax enough to know how it normally feels when it wars off, and this was way more extreme. I'm certainly not advocating that anybody take the two together. I was just curious if I was having an extreme panic attack if I could take something like Xanax along with L-theanine. It seems in general that Ashwaganda has greater drug interactions, so L-theanine may be a better one to mix. I think the one exception I saw was high blood pressure medications. And not sure if there's any potentiometers like grapefruit juice or something that would intensify the effects. For someone who suffers from generalized anxiety disorder or panic attacks I think it's wonderful to have alternative to benzodiazepines that are highly addictive. And certainly antidepressants have their share of side effects too. The drawback to a lot of antidepressants as well is you need to be on them for 10 days or so before you can see the effects. And if you don't like the effects then it's another 10 days or so to get it out of your system. I'd much prefer a fast acting herb.

Hey man, just found your channel today and I have to say thank you, your content is really informative and helpful in such a noisy industry. One quick question I have as I have watched your previous videos about ashwagandha & L-Theanine intake videos and how that sometimes our bodies can get used to taking the herb and the benefits will decrease as it losses its effectiveness once our bodies have adapted to taking them! If I train 3/4 time per week (one day on & one day off) and I use ashwagandha on my training days and then use l-theanine on my none training days, will these herbs continue to have the same strong effect. In other words can this type of cycle be used long term for full benefits of both compounds? Thanks again. hope you get around to answering this..

I see rodiola and mucuna more as energizers and ashwagandha as a relax herb (you do become physically more rested so you become a bit stronger). Curcumin is just anti inflammatory so that is always okay to add. Mixing all together could be a bit too much.

@NewEarthAwakening 3 жыл бұрын
Check out Illuminated Matcha from www.EcotopiaRising.com . It has 10x the L-theanine levels of other matchas to bring it to ideal dosage levels for anti-anxiety & cognitive benefits. Plus, they save an acre of rainforest for every tin sold. Green tea doesn’t have nearly enough l-theanine to be effective, so it’s not an adequate source. 100-250 mg l-theanine is a standard dose.

What nootropoc would u suggest before a date? I suffer from the physical effect of anxiety, by which i mean can't hold eye contact, brain thinking of other things instead of what the person is saying (lack of presence), and in general lack of interest.. this is not me tho, it is the effects of anxiety which i most of the time have, but if i fast for 3 days, it goes completly away.. so it is something in my brain chemistry that is doing these things, and i am trying to figure out what i should supplement with. Ashwagandha felt pretty good, the last time i was social, and l theanine worked acouple times, but i have just started nootropics these last 2 weeks. Is there 1 safe nootropic that is suggested in such a case as mine? Calming mind enabling me to focus on what is said, and allowing me to think on the subject instead of thinking about other stuff (focusing my thoughts insteaf of the scatter brain i normally have) and enabling me to relaxe and hold eye contact? When i drink for instance, those things goes mostly away, and i can easily hold flirting conversations with girls, while holding strong eyecontact, but if i am on a non keto diet, i gey these anxiety symptoms where i physically can't hold eye contact without my face freezing up and making me feel awkward😂 i just want to be normal😆and also able to eat carbs^^ Edit- i am extremly self concious and notice every slight change in my pshychie and so i feel the effects of the l-theanine, ashwaghandha, lions mane immediatly. I have not tried any of them several days in a row, but only tried them right before a social situation. Not sure yet, wether i want to use something every day, in case it might be harmfull and also have withdrawl effects. I will experiment, but i hear many people say the effects ate better if used over time. 🤔

@@dteun Haha well, it differs from person to person. I am confident and always before puberty were completly opposite from how i feel now. For me it is not my psychie that fcks me up, it's physical symptoms from imbalances in the brain. Too much dopamine or too little, might be seretonin, might be something else, but my psychie is just fine otherwise. I have days where i don't have those symptoms and it's amazing. Other days (depending on what i eat etc) it is extreme. Like i struggle entering shopping malls etc, becauwe my body is in fight and flight mode. It is not that i think that something is scary, or like many people who struggle with their thoughts etc, for me it is just a random reaction i get sometimes. Like i said, when i am in deep keto, those symptoms go away, but keto for me is unsustainable. I think i am looking for something to balance my neurotransmitters. The problem is finding what that is in unbalance

@@themusketeer9458 yes keto and fasting does help somewhat with these symptoms. I do take the ashwagandha but I also eat dark chocolate. it's a mood enhancer, so it would help you out in social situations. dark cacao is a drug, it helps you generate oxytocin in your brain, thus making you feel more confident. aslo dark chocolate is rich in potassium and fat. so it's a super keto food. it has helped me out immensely. I recommend taking it on an empty stomach. also get the sugar and dairy free kind, or at least the 92% and above.

L-theanine is extremely safe long term and has no withdrawal effects. And yes, it works even better over time because it increases BDNF to help the brain grow new neural pathways from a state of less anxiety. I found over time that my brain no longer registered previously anxiety-producing situations as stressful anymore after several months.

I only took a combo of these once and it was this week but it was much higher dose of ashwagandha. My take is that it can't differentiate between eustress and stress which isn't great everyday. People are perceiving low eustress response as anhedonia but it's not same thing. They're describing themselves as content doing nothing. Anhedonia lacks pleasure and in that it will lack ability to be content which could be argued as a subtype of pleasure.

@Chris Harlan ashwagandha is taken twice daily for people with high stress/anxiety levels. I do it to increase my performance at the gym or at work now that I'm anxiety free. also, ashwagandha isn't an overnight fix. you have to take it daily for a few weeks to feel and see results. I also eat ginger, also an adaptogen just like ashwagandha. I boil lemon water with garlic slices and drink that with my 2 ashwagandha capsules. How does l theanine decrease stress if it doesn’t decrease cortisol?
@Deltro61
@Deltro61 Жыл бұрын
I think you need to go back and listen to the video again. L-theanine has an effect on the glutamate receptors as well as on Gaba production. One is an excitatory neurotransmitter and the other one is an inhibitory. L-theanine prevents the extreme reactions from ever occurring. In fact, to me, you really don't notice any effect of the herb at all into you start experiencing some stressful event or say having a cup of coffee. The one disadvantage of L-theanine is the fact it doesn't work on cortisol. Cortisol is the fight or flight stress hormone. That's one that can make your muscles tight, rev up your heart rate and blood pressure, etc. With that said, L-theanine is not particularly effective on muscle tension. It would appear that the glutamate receptor has a lot of effect on heart rate and blood pressure, and gaba is responsible for serotonin levels, how relaxed we feel, etc. So to put another way L-theanine still works on stress, but in a different way. It's affecting several of the mechanisms involved in stress, but not all of them. On the plus side it probably has less side effects and can be mixed with more medicines. I don't like taking Ashwaganda for more than about four days. Whereas I think you could take L-theanine for years without any side effects.
