This is an incredible series. Am reminded of a quote, "The wolf is the strength of the pack. The pack is the strength of the wolf." The Assassin's Fate demonstrates this in incredible, heartrending ways. Robin Hobb is a marvel. I am deeply grateful for the insightful, profound living art work of her books. Thank you!

This series, as a whole, is indeed one of the best epic fantasy series that I have ever read. Loved every second that I spent reading this "last" book. Even what some might call the slow repetetive parts were full of world building and character development.

I think I'm ready to reread The Realm of Elderings. I too, took my sweet time reading Assassins Fate....as I didn't want it to end!! And yes, my heart was ripped out through my ribcage!!! However, the first time around I only read the Farseer, Tawny Man, and the Fitz and the Fool trilogies. I think I will reread them and include the Rainwild and Madship trilogies..... I feel that I will get the FULL experience by doing this....however this may lead to a nervous breakdown after completing it hahaha.

I don't read a lot of epic fantasy but I have been reading these for the last 15 years. I loved this - I had read a third of it and then sat down and spent basically the entire weekend reading it. She is wonderful. I also thought the ending was really fitting.

I think if she wanted to write more on the RotE i would love to see bees story continue, especially the ignominious ending with kettricken. I also grew to like lant and shine, spark was an excellent addition, and per!

@@minisam1988 Nah, you didn't spoil anything. Your tactic of hiding it works. If there's one thing I abso-freaking-lutely can NOT stand, it's spoilers. I'm not sure how I feel about the last quarter. I accept it because it's Robin Hobb, but somehow it just doesn't sit well with me. It's like it's still missing something; even though Robin Hobb wraps up all the threads in the wonderful way she always does. I'm not sure I've ever felt closer to characters as I have to Fitz, the Fool and Nighteyes; and Robin paints so beautifully with words. Why did I feel that the last part was an analogy for Hobb's writing the series; of having put so much of herself into it.
@mimimurlough

Emmet Milton I get the feeling that she is a bit unable to let the trio grow past a certain point, unlike the mains of the live ship traders and the rain wild chronicles (where character arcs and character growth is at the heart of the story, which is what makes those stories great). Fitz is still hung up on Molly, even decades after their romance as teenagers. The Fool's life still revolves around him decades after their work is done and in spite of all the other relationships he has formed and nighteyes never forms a relationship with anyone else but Fitz. After having all the other series end with their main characters parked in a reasonable resting place after their journey, it was a shock to see these three most cherished literally set in stone. But maybe Hobb just loved them too much and didn't trust herself to leave them alone.

Probably my favourite all time series of fantasy books. The first book in the final trilogy is the only one I really get stuck on (both times) when I read through the 16 book series, but this final book is wonderful. I love how it pulls those threads together, while also giving it a wholly new storyline that doesn't leave behind the history. Thank you.

I finished this book last night and so many tears. I only recently came across Robin Hobb’s books and I’m so glad I did. I started the Farseer Trilogy 2 months ago and since then I have not been able to put these books down and now 16 books later my only wish is that I had discovered this world and it’s characters sooner. I’m not normally a fast reader and I really wanted to savour each and every moment, but at the same time Robin Hobb’s writing was so compelling and my desire to see characters out of danger or reunited made it impossible to put this story down for long. The Fitz and The Fool trilogy was definitely the hardest read for me. It was an anguish the things the characters had to endure... but the ending was worth it. Completely agonising but also so deeply fulfilling. An end and a beginning. Content and whole and complete.

Again, I totally agree. It felt like the end of the journey. I gave it only 4,5 stars, because I was not realy fond of her handling of the finale. Some of the plan to resolve the destiny of the Fool and Bee in Clarris was just stupid. This is what I ment earlier that Robin Hobb is not the greatest author of plots, the plot holes in this finale had been to big for me. Nevertheless, it was a worthy ending of the series. But I would love to reed more about Bee and Nettle. It's just the beginning of Bees journey in life.

I still remember when Fool's Fate was published and after reading it I was absolutely sure the series was over. I think she left so much more open this time, so many story-lines to pick up and carry on with. I wouldn't be surprised if she wrote something else, perhaps as Megan Lindholm or maybe a sequel series to Soldier Son before returning to this story though, as Assassin's Fate took her a long time to finish and was (according to interviews) a very difficult book to write.

I enjoyed this one, but I didn't love it. I did like the way the main trio's story ended, and I appreciated the way it mirrored the end of the first trilogy, but I hated that the core Liveship plots were included. So much happened there, and yet because it was a tertiary plot point to Fitz's story there wasn't any deep exploration of what any of it meant (not to mention the lack of buildup). I thought the culmination of Paragon's story and what it means for that part of the universe deserved to be the focus of their own tale. That whole society is being turned upside down, but none of the drama felt earned by the narrative since it was just a side plot. I still enjoyed the book overall, but the Liveship bits just frustrated me.

I loved it of course... But I guess I just wished Fitz saved the day by pulling something incredibly badass one last time before he left us. In this cycle it feels like he relies a lot on the other characters to complete the quest, that's fine, and I am pretty sure Robin did that on purpose, but common sometimes it feels like he is actually the weak link of the crew! Just one epic gesture to remind everyone who's boss, wouldn't have hurt imho.

I'm sorry, but there is just no way that Robin Hobb will ever top the 9 book story saga of the Fritz and the Fool no matter what else she ever writes. With these two characters she explored every possible achievement of personal connection between two beings. It transcends every aspect of friendship, acquaintance, general love, platonic love, and romantic love known. She does it so well, I'm just not interested in reading any of her other books or about any of her other characters. I so really just want the Fool to be an actual person; he is that perfect. Every other character she writes disappoints me as being so two-dimensional and uninteresting by comparison. It doesn't matter what else she does in the world of the Elderlings; I'll just be re-reading this one saga over and over for years to come. I want to absorb them so thoroughly into my being to the same extent they were at last both absorbed into the Wolf Dragon.

I had a hard time figuring out her 2 magic systems, and the fact, that I was only able to get a perspective and inner thoughts of only 1 character, when I was used to seeing what most of the characters were thinking. **** Major Spoiler Alert ***** Really disappointing. There were some great moments and great ideas but overall it was frustrating, drawn out and repetitive. How many times did Fitz try to talk Lant, Per and Spark into returning to Buckkeep Castle??? It felt like 50. Does Fitz ever get some sort of control in using the Skill?.......No, aagghhhhh!!!!. Do all the awesome prophesies about Bee the destroyer and Fitz, The Fool and Nighteyes come to an awesome fulfilling climax?.......No, just naff. Fitz and Chade emerge from the stones with unbelievable Skill strength, I couldn't wait to find out why..........Umm, no reason, Fitz' increased strength just fades, I can't even remember why, and Chade was just dying. Fitz' and The Fool's relationship ended up just frustrating me and the same with Bee and the Fool. Vendeliar doesn't get the death he deserves, or WE deserve......The book really went down hill and lost me after the great moment where Bee steps on the serpent spit/skill, leading you to believe something amazing was coming up down the track..........nope. There's so many points that frustrated me, I can't go into them or I'd be writing forever. I felt Hobb should have spent more time editing and really flushing out the so-so ideas. Unfortunately this third book makes part 1 and 2 not worth reading. But...................at least we have 2 perfect trilogies which preceded The Fitz and The Fool Trilogy, so I am thankful for that. Sorry if this opinion upsets anyone but I had such high hopes.
