Asus ZenBook Duo 14 (UX482) Review: Our Favourite Dual-Screen Laptop

Asus kicked the year off with a load of surprises, one of which we were really interested in. The Asus ZenBook Duo 14 (UX482) sees quite a huge upgrade and a major step forward from the previous model… and in just two weeks, we think that this might just be our favourite dual-display laptop thus far, and across the ZenBook series to boot!
The new ZenBook Duo features the new auto-tilt hinge mechanism on the ScreenPad Plus, gets new and improved processors, an all-new chassis which is much slimmer and more. We are honestly impressed with it. What about you? What are your thoughts?

Yes I agree - I absolutely love the colour too! It's blue in some lights and green in others. Really a lovely mix :)

Hi there and thanks for this review . I like the dual screen but my experience with any laptop is that they become very slow. You have this for some time , how does it perform ? I do video and picture editing , would that be a good option?

Nice review ..... Amazon currently has this for $999.00 but it is the 8 gig version. do you think it would be good for an amateur content creator/editor /video editor?

8 gigs of ram isn't really enough for good video editing, 16 gigs is generally recommended. Although for beginners 8 gigs should be "manageable", provided you don't use too many effects, don't make long videos, and stay under 1080p Do note that RAM isn't upgradable in zenbook duo like other laptops, so future upgrades are not possible either. I'd recommend trying to get the 16 gig version if you really need that second screen. If not then you can get other sweet laptops with greater specs in the same budget!

Have you had some experience with using a pen on the screenpad plus? I think about getting this over a tablet for handwriting. While with this I also would replace my windows setup at home, a tablet would just be an addition. I'm not really sure if the Screenpad plus would be big enough and thanks to the pandemic I'm not able to try it out at a local store :/ I would be glad to hear your opinion and experience.

Depends on what you want to write. Simple notes and sketches, sure thing, by all means. But if you’re going to be working on a document constantly, that small screen would feel stifling. And yes, it is small, just imagine half the height of a standard 14” display. So if you’re going to use the pen most of the time, we would say no. Occasionally, sure thing.

The pen is very very good. I often use it because it's easier to bring around than a mouse! However, the screens don't fold flat so any extended drawing isn't ideal, and your hand wrests on the keyboard when writing on the screenpad so you have to turn the keyboard off if you were going to use it that way

Just the review I was looking for! However id like to ask some questions, do you think getting the model equipped with NVIDIA® GeForce® MX450, 2GB GDDR6 as well will help with fps in games? I'd like to game with this laptop too in my spare time. Thanks!

It’ll definitely perform better for games. Just don’t be expecting superb performance in AAA titles.

What games? I have the MX450 edition and it runs a lot of older games at highest settings and I sometimes play warzone but with the lowest settings

Have you tried connecting this to the external monitor? I'm wondering how does it work then? So either you drag windows to the right or to the bottom? How about switching with that button on the right?

It works fine actually. Just as you'd expect - windows handles them all as separate monitors

Hi. I'm looking to get the i5 model that comes for $999. Would that be sufficient performance-wise in the long run, if I just need it for typing and multitasking? I don't do video editing or heavy gaming.

That should be plenty. Just make sure you get 16GB of RAM.

Go for it! killer battery life on the i5. I have the i7 though, and it's pretty awesome so if you can go up the tier then I would suggest it!

hello good people! Can anyone please tell me if the model with intel iris graphics supports two external monitors? In my work setup in home I have two external monitors that are connected to my laptop (three displays including laptop display). but I am interested in buying this one because, you guessed it, i'll have two monitors on the go when I am away from my setup. I am not sure if 4 displays are supported by the laptop.

I have the MX450 version but as far as I can tell it uses the Iris for external monitors only. So I'll try it and get back to you!

Did they also improve the speakers? The sound from the previous one was horrible.

We only had a brief hands on with the first model, but thus far with our experience with the current UX482, the speakers are above average. Pretty solid we would, considering the form factor and the fact that it’s thinner than the previous.

I absolutely love them. I use them in my apartment actually because the way the sound bounces off the screen and the table from behind the screenpad is really nice

Cyberpunk, definitely not. Only light games like CSGO, Minecraft, etc.

Pretty standard among these class of laptops, about an average of 7 hours with mixed usage.

Apparently the i5 has excellent battery life. I have the i7 with MX450 and the battery life is about 7 hours or so, so not quite enough to comfortably go through a whole day but certainly a lot for mixed usage. If you want more battery life I'd think to go i5 or i7 without the extra GPU

Yes. But it would depend which programs. I use Fusion 360 and it runs a dream. It would have no trouble running Solidworks I would imagine because the CPU is absolutely monstrous for an ultrabook

Why not m1 Mac? Getting 10th gen intel really makes no sense in this day and age... But between your two options there go h cpu and gtx graphics. No discussion.
