Feeding off successful past can only go for so long, most people who became fans in the 90s and 00s are in their 30s/40s or more. After them - there is a whole generation of fans missing - Nobody's ever gonna say "Yeah, when I saw Maguire scorpionkick Pogba in the head I knew I was a fan for life from that point on" and that's what this team is now - memes and fails.

Could not agree more. Being one of those 90's kids who started loving Utd even before I understood football, Utd's gravy train is about to stop. Even old fans are getting tired of their mismanagement and stupid bulshittery. I know some ' true fan' is gonna jump the gun and call me a plastic fan, but Utd has taken their fans for granted and that is gonna make them the next Everton IMO. What a sad state of affairs :(

I think the English language played a huge part too, It took quite a while before other leagues started to offer content people abroad would watch or understand. I've been a huge fan of Italian football for ages and they have had little to none english content, its become much better the last 5-10 years, even today there are a lack of it. Not saying they should use Italian but simple text can help alot. On the Bainsport presentation video of Paulo Dybala for example, not even CC on. Don't mind learning Italian but if you want to bring in the casual fans you need to present content for them.

The video glossed over how much global appeal United already had as a result of their first European Cup victory in 1968. Picture this, Man Utd, having been relegated in 1974, already bereft of their holy trinity at that time, still traveled thousand of miles to play against a local club from Indonesia in front of a sold out 70,000 crowd. The early European giants like Real Madrid, AC Milan, Ajax, Man Utd, Liverpool, were already insanely popular in Asia in the 70s and 80s.

I remember when I was a kid in the early 90s and I went to a friend's place here in southern Brazil, and he was playing a "Manchester United" game on his Amiga 500 computer. That was before the FIFA games existed. You had the whole league to play against, but you could only play AS Man Utd. To play two-players, he played as the line players and I played as the goalkeeper. For many years whenever English football was brought up my sympathy was by default with Man Utd just because of that game. That's how ahead of the curve their global marketing was.

9:12 weren't their European Cup wins in 79 and 80? One of the relevant points that were not discussed in the video is ownership of the club. Especially in the Premier League many clubs are owned by someone rich from outside of the football world - and those owners are often not particularly loved because of they way they treat the club and handle the finances. Another point is what the clubs or their owners do with all the money. In the case of Arsenal, for example, they built the Emirates stadium in the 2000s which crippled their finances for years. This (and the new owners paying off the purchase of Arsenal with the club's own net income) lead to not having enough for money for star players that were attracted by the then new super rich clubs such as Chelsea and later on ManCity. And before Klopp arrived at Liverpool they were also just a club that used to be super successful before the Premier League era.

You're missing out a huge part of the story. Manchester United started life as a club called Newton Heath, who, after being days from bankruptcy in 1902, were bought out by an extremely wealthy brewer local to the area, at the time one of the richest men in the country. He rebranded the team as 'Manchester United', and built the second largest stadium in the country as a reward for his many hundred thousand staff to go and watch in their time off. They were, in effect, the Manchester City of the time, using huge outside investment to buy the best players and win trophies, overnight being labelled 'Manchester Moneybags FC'. 100 years past, with the club being able to generate as much income as several other teams combined due to the large stadium that had been given to them, and in such time success was sure to follow. In modern times, finances rely much less on income generated by match day revenue, and as there is a more equal playing field for the competition, you find Manchester United are much less of a successful club as they were when they were the industry leaders financially. The days of Manchester United buying league titles are gone.
@cantripleplays
@cantripleplays 9 ай бұрын
But the thing is, that’s not really true. Sure they won league titles, but they only won 2 league titles and a FA cup, that was it until the busby became manager. So I don’t think it’s the same as Man City’s success, in fact i think it is a mini-man city. They weren’t owned by a royal family. They didn’t break any rules (Everyone and there mother knows Man City broke FFP don’t deny it). They didn’t have nearly as much success. It’s very different

9:25 - in the 90s there wasn't a Big 5 concept. The only thing that brings those 5 clubs together was that in 1990 they were the initial first 5 teams to meet and discuss about the formation of a breakaway league. But that happened in 1990 and did not translate into on-pitch success for some if the teams there, like Everton and Tottenham. There were better teams that decade: Blackburn, Newcastle and even Chelsea.

that 110mil euros revenue is ANNUALLY, not per match. that works out to be an average of 40euros per ticket per match. Bulk of the revenue comes from broadcasting rights... that 110mil euros could barely pay off the salaries of the players each year.

Just wait and see, once Man City has established themselves like Man UTD commercially , the owners will end up exactly like the Glazers. They all do.... eventually

Yes perhaps Man United can survives till today was due to past success and fortunes as well as the massive fan base they acquired especially in Asia, Africa, Oceania and the Americas however it is remains to be seen if their current strategy is sustainable even without winning any trophies especially competitors coming from their own neighborhood (e.g. City ) are gaining a lot more success than them in recent years and they have established themselves as a football conglomerate that owned many clubs in the world.

Saying football originated in China is really quite silly. The game in China is the earliest we have records for a game involving kicking a ball at a goal. The development of such games is common throughout the world; they don't exist because people learned about the Chinese game and decided to play it themselves. The peoples of North America were playing games that could be called "football" seemingly without learning them from people from the Eastern Hemisphere. Given that the peoples in each respective hemisphere hadn't had contact with one another for thousands and thousands of years that means "football" is either way, way older than currently thought or a game involving kick a ball at a goal has been invented in numerous parts of the world completely independent of what anyone else was doing.
