Managed to get my hands on APR's gorgeous downpipe & midpipes before it was discontinued. This'll bring out some more 5 cylinder music and open up the flow for the extra power i'll be throwing at it soon.

Hah, I keep landing on your videos 😊 Sounds pretty good; too bad it’s discontinued. Now that you’re putting so much power down, other than the nice wide wheels/tires, I can tell you probably got some lowering springs (can’t recall if you brought that up in earlier vids, but I did watch them). What sort of suspension and driveline mods have you done, if any? So far I’ve already got 034 Motorsports’ lowering springs, ZTF-01 wheels and rear sway bar and I can already tell the handling improvement is stellar over stock, even with just the “modest” extra power from the APR+ stage 1 tune. I’ll be getting their subframe inserts, dogbone mount and upper/lower dogbone mount inserts as well pretty soon (along with their new front J-hook brake rotors, steel lines and rear rotors, just getting it all done at the same time). But when you’re putting that power down and you’re digging into the corners, the stock suspension setup really starts pulling away from you without some aftermarket help, for sure. Coincidentally: My car will actually be the first ever to get their new front rotors installed on the TT RS (coming out in just over a week, so early April). I’m local to their service center in Fremont so I can get away with that I guess. Lucky timing, too.

Great video Danny. I'm pitting mine in this next weekend. How long would you say it took you? Just trying to plan for a Friday/Saturday thing or all weekend. Thanks!

With a lift it and taking my time it was about 4 hours. Could do it much faster if you’re really jamming on it, even on the ground. The majority of the work is in getting the drive shaft out of the way.

Any issues with drone? Does it take down quite a bit when valves are closed, or is a beast sound at all times? thanks and great vid

Thanks! Not much more than stock I’m honest. And closing the valves makes it almost as quiet as stock. If anything because of the removal of the cat the noise has seemingly moved to the back of the car if that makes sense.

Hey man, love the sound! I was wondering if you could help me out with an issue I'm having with my 2018 TT RS. When I rev the engine while parked with the valves open, I hear a weird grinding/rattling sound from the exhaust as I let off the gas. Brought it to an Audi dealership under warranty and they said it's a normal issue with the valve flap and that there is no fix......bullshit. I was wondering if you had any experience with this or know of any fix. Much appreciated.

By what you're describing this is likely what's known in the TTRS/RS3 community as wastegate rattle. If you do a search on google for that term you'll see it's pretty commonplace sound in the exhaust, and it comes from the wastegate on the turbo itself, and not from the exhaust or its valves-at least as far as I know unless there are also issues with the exhaust valves I haven't learned about. The only way to truly remove that sound is with an aftermarket turbo with a different wastegate setup, or get an exhaust that can sort of muffle that frequency a bit.

The wastegate rattle is experienced more during the coldstart, i guess its the issue with exhaust flaps. Type: How to fix exhaust flap rattle on bmw M135i M235i M140i M240i etc in youtube, it fixed the issues with rattling exhaust flaps for a lot of ttrs/rs3 users

@DannyLo thanks for this video, its incredibly helpful! I'm about to attempt this myself on jack stands, replacing a smaller Milltek downpipe with a Wagner one. I'm fairly sure I can get the old one out without dropping the driveshaft, but I'm curious: Do you think you could have put your APR downpipe in without dropping the driveshaft if you didn't need to drop it for the stock Downpipe? Do you think it might be possible to leave it in place, or perhaps even drop it in from above? I'd be really grateful for your reply and any advice.

It might've been possible, but I believe the subframe will still need to come down a few inches anyway to make room, so undoing the driveshaft is not much extra effort. If you were to cut the old one out, you might be able to sneak a non-catted pipe in without dropping anything, but I'd imagine it'd be very tight.

NICE....is it possible to only replace the mid pipes? Would it make the TT RS sound better?

Yes you can and I’d imagine it’d probably give you a bit more volume over stock removing the secondary cats in the process

It was definitely noticeable, but not horrific in a way that made being in the car in traffic unpleasant

Not really or if it is I don’t notice it. I think I have the exhaust flap rattle when they are closed but that’s it

Do you know why APR discontinued the downpipe and their stage 2 tune?

I think it has to do with the fact that it’s catless, and stage 2 is made to support it. They want to be environmentally friendly, and they argue that it doesn’t make a performance difference, but it definitely does on the butt-dyno. If you can get your hands on a new left-over from a distributor, it comes with a stage 2 tune code which is still grandfathered in at any dealer.

Not sure how it wouldn’t if all monitors are set and no CEL. My VRT passes and it has a way hotter tune and setup
