The Iroh and Zuko scene honest to God had me in tears. To think that Zuko was probably expecting a repeat of events like with his father when asking forgiveness, and Iroh does what any REAL father would do, just sweeps him up in a hug simply because he loves him unconditionally and there's nothing in the world that could ever change that. Basco's voice acting is effing PERFECT, I CAN'T, aaaarrghhh

The Zuko and Iroh reunion is one of the greatest emotional moments in television! The tears flow without fail every time for me :').

I don't know if anyone else understands how much I am looking forward to the Azula/Zuko fight it is my FAVOURITE scene of any cartoon

Uncle Iroh wasn't angry at Zuko for losing his way, he's relieved that his soldier boy came marching back home.

I loved how "The Old Masters" referred to both the White Lotus and the past four Avatars. Getting to see more Avatars past Kyoshi was really nice! I also really like Yangchen and her advice. She understands where Aang's coming from, but she also understands the duties and responsibilities that comes with being the Avatar. When it comes to matters of your own needs versus that of the world's, she'll put the world before herself. While watching your reaction to the Iroh/Zuko reunion, I didn't notice I was tearing up until I touched my face. God, that scene gets me every time! Here's Iroh, being a true father to Zuko than Ozai ever was. Zuko was probably expecting no forgiveness like how Ozai treated him, but instead he got a hug and forgiveness! And yeah, I always saw it as the Lion Turtle's scent masking Aang's scent. Aside from holding the library up, Toph also flattened the entire Earth Kingdom palace staircase during "The Earth King". At this point, I think Bumi is slightly more powerful than Toph but Toph definitely has the potential to be even more powerful. She's a kid now and she's already this powerful, so can you imagine her in her prime?? That Fire Nation guard that's voiced by Serena Williams is Ming :)

There is something I notice about this episode every time I see it but that never gets mentioned and its that none of Aang's past lives ever say to actually kill Ozai. Roku-Be decisive Kyoshi-Only justice will bring peace Kuruk- Be active in shaping your destiny and the world Yangchen- You must be willing to sacrifice your own needs to protect the world Killing the Ozai may be how Aang interprets what they say but that's not what they actually tell him to do. Ironically Aang will end up taking all their advice in the final battle from a certain point of view.

Even Avatar Roku who was a reincarnation of thousands of Avatars before had no idea about the lion turtle. So there's no way that creature would smell the scent of Aang there.

Avatar Kyoshi should have a series of her own and it should be strictly Rated R. Considering her incredible feats, she might be the best earth bender ever.

When I rewatch this episode the the bit that threatens to get me misty-eyed even more than Zuko reuniting with Iroh is the small moment of Iroh identifying Zuko as someone with "unquestionable honor." As we head into the finale proper, having the wisest character on the show basically declare that Zuko's difficult journey as a character is over is just unbelievably cathartic.

Aaron is a psychic. It's finally revealed. (Seriously though, when he shouted "TURTLE" and Calvin's face while he was going on about that. Amazing.) I teared up at the renunion too. This episode is a lot of build-up, though that doesn't mean it isn't awesome! Seeing the white lotus, Aang's talk with his past lives and the lion turtle are such cool moments. And FINALLY the renunion between Zuko and Iroh. Aang's debate on where you draw the line between your own 'spiritual needs' and the fate of the world is interesting. Aang would probably have been taught by the monks that to achieve spiritual completion (or whatever term you use), and be part of everything, you shouldn't take another life. And he's only 12. Being the Avatar at that age gives you an impossibly huge responsibility. They mentioned previously that it was tradition to not tell the Avatar who they were until they turned 16. They told Aang earlier because of the war, which he wasn't ready to handle. And now he has to be. It's heavy, and I love it. And the lion turtle has such a cool design. it has been appearing in artwork, statues and sayings in the show for quite some time, but it's hard to notice if you don't know what you're looking for. Can't wait for the next two episodes, even though I can't believe it's nearly over. :'(

"Where's Momo?!" Best line of the episode. Love the way Bumi evicted the fire nation from his city. 6:45 Zuko is crying from both eyes. How many people remember that the last time he cried it was only from his right eye? . I think it's because the Lion-Turtle is special. I'm not sure it was really all the way in the physical world.

This show made me tear up a lot, but it made me straight up cry twice, the first time was when Iroh sings "Leaves From The Vine" in the "Tales of Ba Sing Se" episode and the second time is here when Zuko and Iroh finally reunite, also how he tells Zuko that he should be the next Fire Lord because he has "unquestionable honor" just got me in my feels man. 😭 Did anyone else find it weird that just a couple episodes ago, Iroh was all big, muscular and looked like a body builder/wrestler, but now he's back in his old body frame almost? I just found that weird, I doubt you can gain weight that fast when you looked like the The Rock just a couple days before. As for Toph vs. Bumi, I think Bumi is stronger and more experienced right now, but I definitely think Toph surpasses him in a couple of years, Toph has her own unique style of Earth Bending and she can also metal bend, and even as a 12 year old kid she's so powerful, imagine how strong she will be in a few years! And Aaron, don't get your hopes up too high for Zuko and Katara, everything you see is basically a tease. 😔

I always thought that the lion turtle was so massive, that it's own scent dwarfed Aang's while he was on it, blocking Nala from smelling him at all.

Apparently Avatar Yangchen, the female air nomad avatar, was actually one of those "wrath of the patient person" sort of people. She was so fiercely devoted to preserving balance that she did whatever was required to maintain it. They didn't expressly say what she did, but for whatever reason no threats of war were made for an entire generation after she died. I guess out of both respect for her, or fear that she might still be alive.

the creators explained way back when that the lion turtle was so old, he predated the avatar, such that he had attracted a gazillion scents around the world. That's why Nyla failed to detect him.

The lion turtle is a the oldest spirit, like the ocean and moon spirit, so Aang is basically in the spirit world

The lion turtle is one of the most ancient and well respected creatures in the avatar universe. Their kind is older than the avatar cycle. They are also very wise. Plus, it teaches Aang something phenomenal. Another thing about the Sheersho, June's mole monster, it says in the Bato of the Water tribe episode that it can smell a water rat a continent away. So yes it can smell something around the world. And with Koh, the face stealer, it has been implied that ordinary people have gone into the spirit world.

Can't wait for the next episode. And that Iroh and Zuko scene gets me every time 😢

FUN FACT: they first mentioned the turtles in the library episode when sokka first stumbled uppon a scroll or book, they actually showed a drawing of them.

June is one of those characters you wish you'd see more of. They did a great job of creating interesting secondary characters for the series.

For some reason, Yangchen is my favorite. "Selfless duty calls you to sacrifice your own spiritual needs". She's the only avatar whose answer correctly addresses that Aang's position is not rooted in the greatest good, but in a need to feel good.

Fun fact the Lion rustle was show in book 2 it is a depicted in a drawing in a scroll Aang looks at in the library.

Nyla the mole couldn't find Aang because the turtle had travelled throughout the world and accumulated countless smells, making it impossible to discern Aang's smell. This just masked Aang's smell.

It could just be that the turtle is a spiritual creature of sorts, so Aang being on its back would mean that Aang was shrouded and as if he was in the spirit world. That could be one reason as for why the tracker thingy couldn't find him. Another reason could be that the Lion Turtle's smell is just so powerful and overwhelming that it completely masked Aang.

Toph vs Bumi is a thing in one of the official comics. Also if you want a good example of Toph doing some crazy stuff, go back to the episode where the Gaang storm the Earth Palace. Toph collapses the Palace steps, assuming their not hollow underneath that is an insane amount of earth being moved all at once.

It's because Toph can't see, she uses seismic sense to see, that makes her so skilled and powerful at earth bending.

I'm sorry but Zuko is just the best fucking character. That's a fucking story ark done to perfection, absolute fucking perfection. I didn't watch this show when I was young because I thought it was stupid but I watched it in my teens and it's one of my favourite shows ever, easily, and one of the reasons it is is because of Zuko. Every character in this is so perfectly portrayed and complex but Zuko, for me, goes through so much hardship, so much shit, so much inamiginable conflict, and he comes out the other end with his head held high. Fuck yes Zuko, hell fucking yes.

Nickelodeon's "Avatar: The Lost Adventures" comic actually contains an earthbending battle between Toph and Bumi, to settle which one is the strongest. The winner turns out to be [spoiler redacted].

Fire bending comes from passion. The fire nation perverted it into a rage fulled weapon, but fire bending doesn't need to be fueled by negative emotion. As long as the emotions that fuel your fire are strong, your bending is strong. True, rage, and anger are easier to generate strong emotions from, but positive emotions can fuel fire bending just as well.

Aang's scent couldn't be picked up because it was completely covered by that of the Lion Turtle. It's like trying to smell a flea on a person.

Lion Turtle: "The answer to life, the universe and everything... is 42". Aang: "What?!" Lion Turtle: "...What?" Lion Turtle: "Listen kid, you just need to channel your inner Shia Labeouf and "Just do it"."

Toph is more talented and skilled due to the way she learned earthbending. Bumi is also talented, but he doed not see eartbending as natural as Toph(because he didn't learn it as such a vital skill) Although, Bumi has over 100 years of experience over Toph, which is pretty hard to top. I'd say that if they fought blindfolded, it wouldn't even be a match, Toph would wipe the floor. Normal conditions, maybe Bumi has a slight edge.

Basically the reason the animal could not smell is because the lion turtles scent was masking him because it was so big. Put is as someone hair has its own odor and if a bug were to get stuck in there it would not be able to tell if the person is there. We saw this in the one episode when they knocked over the scents and the mole hit everyone because it could not really tell who was who. (Sorry about my grammar if it's wrong)

The zuko and iroh scene is the best moment in the series. I was waiting since series one for this episode. Also, I think the lion turtle is a spiritual entity that exists outside of the mortal world, which is why she said Aang didn't exist. It can probably travel between the mortal and spirit world whenever it wants. If the lion turtle did exist in the mortal world more people would see it. You can't really miss a giant moving island.

From what I know, spirits and creatures can cross between worlds by two means. Spiritual meditation or _spoiler_ . Between Bumi and toph, I believe Bumi has the upper hand. The time Bumi fought Aang, he said he was the strongest earthbender he'll ever meet and he wasn't joking. Bumi is a creative thinker and an experienced king, if they were to fight, Bumi could easily see toph is blind. He can come to the conclusion she can only see via vibration in the ground. To win, Bumi could cause a mini earthquake that would mess up toph's senses while masking himself to move freely, then strike whenever he pleases. Sure Toph could try to shield herself to protect her if she can't see where to fight, but as Bumi demonstrated, his rocks tear metal.

Fans have been asking why Nyla (the shirshu) couldn't smell Aang. Eventually the main writer commented that because the Lion Turtle was enormous, ancient, and smelled like the planet it's natural musk was powerful enough to mask Aang's scent.

Avatar Kuruks wife got pulled into the spirit world through the spirit oasis (during the wedding ceramony) by Koh, that's how she ended up in the spirit world, and that's how she lost her face. This is shown in an official game that takes place after book 2

My theory was always Aangs body and soul was fully transported to the spirit realm once he went on the turtlelion. Similar to how it works in Stranger Things (mostly s1)
