The Centauri committed a lot of atrocities against the Narn, but none was worse than not letting them push the like button on R Knights content just to make them miss new content. Heartbreaking.

Centauri women have 6 "entry points" in their back, and the males have 6 tentacles so to speak in their front chest / abdomen area. They showed it with a statue in the first season when Londo explained it to Leneer after their poker match. :)

Urza Jaddo, season 2 episode 17 Londo's friend he had to kill, was of the same mentality as Vir, so yes, like minded Centauri do exist but they keep their mouths shut to avoid getting killed like Urza.

This to me is one of the strengths of B5 - just about every culture has some degree of internal differences, even PsiCorps (like Harriman Grey back in s1). Most other shows tend to have much more uniformity in their factions

I'll need to go back and watch at some point, but I thought Urza objected to the war efforts, that he didn't believe the Centauri needed to be an imperial military power again, not necessarily going so far as to try and make peace with the Narn. Still, the fact that Lyndysty does call Vir a radical means ideas like his must be present in Centauri culture but are dismissed.

If Vir becomes Emperor then that has the potential to really change things. The Centauri Republic is effectively an absolute monarchy and everyone in court will, on some level, change their outlook to match the ruling monarch's own philosophy in order to maintain their position in court. It'll take a long time, but there is hope (for a given value of hope).

The two Narn were not after Vir. They were there to kill her. They were escapees from a village she was involved in purging.

With all that intergalactic trade going on - I bet there's loads of critters from all kinds of places living on B5 without permission. Like space-rats. THOSE little buggers travelled the whole world on ships that way and spread everywhere WE did, because we always leave so much yummy stuff lying around. Or that old story about buying a bunch of bananas and also getting a tarantula that was sleeping between them for free as a bonus. :D This totally would happen in an operation of that size. Lovely little detail. :)

On Centari Vir is a low level diplomat he is only see as a adjunct to London. When Lyndesty showed up she said she was sent by Lady Morella. Who read Vir and knows he is to be the emperor, hence that is why she set up the marriage. How do you talk a noble family into giving a bride to low level diplomat, you give the crazy daughter!

25:38 I don't think Vir was the target. The wife was his target as revenge for one of the massacres. Also notice what she said after "Thank you for standing up for me" (as in she knows who the real target is)

Yeah there are no stuns on those PPGs. PPG- Phased Plasma Gun. It is super heated plasma. No stun on super heated 1,000 degree plus weapons. Sic Transit Vir - And thus passes Vir, And so passes\goes Vir. The rise and fall of Vir.

Guys... just bindged watched your entire B5 content in the last 3 days lol I'm 39 and i watched as it aired, has been my favourite series ever since (only thing that comes close is BSG) so upset I now have to wait ages for you to make it though the rest of the show... but I'm here for it! It's a really fun episode. Vir really stepped up, and that conversation with G'Kar was important. Saying sorry isn't enough. His wife, though, or rather fiance, she's genocidal and a little psychologically damaged after killing a few thousand Narns. Damn, interesting picks for the deathpool. I might have spoiled in one of the previous comments that someone won't die, but those are definitely some interesting picks.

While Schindler's List is a first comparison, Vir's actions more closely match those of Chiune Sugihara, who served as vice-consul for the Japanese Empire in Lithuania and issued visas to 2-6000 Jewish refugees. There was also the honourary consul Jan Zwartendijk, who issued 2300 visas. Great men!

Some of the Centauri behaviour is going to be influenced by what is in favour at the courts. Londo is more skilled in politics than he first appears and so I'd be cautious about trying to interpret what exactly Londo is up to. How much of it is what he thinks and how much is of him trying to give the appearance of thinking in the acceptable fashion while also trying to protect Vir from being punished for doing the right thing?

You guys should react to I, Claudius with Derek Jacobi. I think it was a major inspiration for Centauri culture and it also inspired a lot of characters for George RR Martin in Game of Thrones.

The look of Centauri and most likely the culture is inspired from the 1984 Dune movie, specifically the royal court. Hence the slightly Prussian style coat.

@@biocapsule7311 I always thought it had more to do with Peter Jurasik's portrayal of Londo. I heard on interviews that he chose Londo's accent and manner of speech to reflect old European nobility and the writers just ran with it.

@@oielvert Londo's portrayal was partly Jurasik's idea but how the Centauri looked was quite another matter. If you look for how the Corrino Court in Dune 1984 you will see the connections, especially the Centauri court women and the Bene Gesserit.

@@biocapsule7311 I can see the parallels between the Bene Gesserit and the emperor's wives. Too bad that the show couldn't go deeper in their portrayal. It ended up more seeming like a cultural curiosity and not the important plot point it was meant to be.

She isn't a ninja, she is a Centauri. The difference is that Centauri can kill you while smiling in your face and no one will pin your murder on them. As far as how crazy Centauri can be, you haven't seen... Spoilers. As far as the 'Eye' goes, it has been said that Londo had already squandered more than one chance to stop his fate. I would say he failed to save the 'Eye that cannot see' which started his association with Morden. But that's just my interpretation.

People all confused about why a guy like Vir would still have hope for Lyndisty... remember that according to their entire race, Vir is the weird one. His having a kind and moral heart is as strange to them as heartless murderous psycho's are to us. Vir is humane but he aint no eunuch lol.

At least in this episode I did not like Lyndysty Drusella's diction. It sounded too much learned and recited, which could fit the story, if she was planted by Lando or just repeating propaganda. But she is really convinced and has done cruel deeds. Even her attraction to Vir seems to be real enough. So a more natural speech even in this episode with her would have been the better choice. The writers probably gave her to long sentences.

A prophecy is only a profecy if it comes true. Otherwise it's a metaphor. - some wise person to be named later. The point is that you shouldn't put too much faith in prophecies, even in this show.

Bit of a odd episode, seems like JMS tried to push the evil Centauri angle too much. While a number of Centauri doing such mass murder is believable enough, this episode made it seem like every Centauri is eagerly looking to kill Narn. Seems like a different Londo as well, too blood thirsty after previous episodes showing he isn't. He's shown to not want to kill Narn just to kill them, conquer sure but "Killed thousands of Narn good job Vir" was not what his character has been before nor after this episode.

My head canon is.. the Centauri are basically what you get when the Nazis win the war and stay in power. So there will be some who don’t agree but keep very very quiet or they might just end up in the concentration camps with the Jews/Narn

Yes its a way too dark take with Londo here i feel. He would never normally show such relish in mass death. I have a lot of problems with the writing in this episode in general.

The ending with Vir is so damn strange. He still thinks he can make it work with a crazed bride whose indoctrination into mass genocide has made her a raging nutball??? I know he likes to be an optimist but....come on! Making light at the end of such a disturbing storyline just leaves a bad taste in the mouth for me. Also the leaving in the air of the fate of the captured Narn adds an element of ambiguity at the end which makes it look like Vir killed him (though that obviously was not the case). Not B5's finest writing hour in my opinion especially after the last four classic episodes.

@@RKnights Remember that this is an arranged marriage in which Vir did not have a choice. So given what he may consider a non-negotiable situation, he chose to think the best of the future. It is part of his character to hope for the best for people, even the worst of his fellow kinsmen.
