BABYMETAL is back! This time with Akatsuki from Live at Legend 1997. I did not expect the ballard-type song with the piano from Su-Metal, and BABYMETAL. I really really enjoyed this performance.
I could feel the emotion in Su-Metal's voice as she was singing, it was extremely powerful.

Lots of metal singers have got range and power (Tarja or Floor), but Su's one of the few singers I know that can be that expressive of emotions in her singing. From her facial expressions, the pained smile, to how she's singing with slight hesitation like she's choked up with emotion.... She's not just a vocalist.... That's one of the many reasons I like her, she doesn't just sing a song, she performs it... From facial expressions, to her own interpretive dance moves, its a whole package.... If a western pop singer sings a sad ballad, they might just lower their eyes a bit, a slight frown... When Su does it (like in Akatsuki Unfinished or No Rain No Rainbow), you can hear the cracking of her voice, the slight choking back a sob, the sad tearful expression... Better than some hollywood actresses. 🤘🦊🤘

For Su, and Babymetal as a whole they don't see themselves as just singers or just dancers or back up. Every show is a performance it's theatre and when the song requires pure hyper energy they bring it, when it requires goofiness they bring it, when it creates the emotional rage of just losing a loved one they will bring it. Babymetal power is unbeatable.

Always blows me away that she was able to deliver this kind of mature performance the day after turning 16. I could barely tie my shoelaces at 16, much less perform in front of 8,000 people. It's really highlights what a prodigious talent she is and how good Koba's eye for talent was to recognise her potential as a ten year old.

Akatsuki's piano version has SU-METAL's emotional and beautiful singing voice, but please listen to the original metal version after this! ! If you do that, you will understand how much power and energy metal music gives to those who listen to it. I highly recommend the video for "AKATSUKI「紅月アカツキ」BLACK NIGHT HD 1080p", which shows the 16-year-old SU-METAL's singing style that brings out the strong feelings of determination and the amazing dual guitar performance. You can enjoy it. It's very pleasant and moving to enjoy SU-METAL's very beautiful singing voice on the piano version, and then immediately enjoy BABYMETAL's well-crafted and excellent metal version. This way of enjoying is "BABYMETAL - Monochrome - Piano ver. / THE FIRST TAKE" and "BABYMETAL // MONOCHROME", "BABYMETAL - THE ONE - Unfinished ver. / THE FIRST TAKE" and "BABYMETAL - THE ONE (OFFICIAL)". But you can do the same thing, so I would like you to experience it once.

Welcome back to the Foxhole 🦊🤘🔥 SuMetal said she knew she was delivering the emotion and feelings on this song after watching someone in the crowd crying, she's very committed to this task the way is intended to be. After this song at Legend 1997 they performed Babymetal Death, i think is a great follow up to see how they ended this special live concert, what a rollercoaster show. New reactors are in awe watching Monochrome Piano Version, they don't know she did that already live. Only one shot and that's it, they never play this version again, until Budokan 2021 when she did a little part of this in the middle of the song. The original song is a power/speed metal ballad and is fire, it's one out of four SuMetal's solos. You can watch that live at Budokan 2014. This was at Legend 1997 in 2013 when SuMetal was celebrating her 16th Birthday, you can also find two other great clips from this show, such: - Headbanger!! (Gans Tomas got this clip safe to react under Head Bangya title) - Babymetal Death (get ready for this insane ending, GuilhermeCait got this clip with the intro translated in the description box) Btw it's called Unfinished because the last lines of the original lyrics were cut in this one (that's pretty much everyone guess), they did other songs like this without the full band or instruments, like The One and more recently Monochrome and officially aren't called like that, only this one, so my guess the unfinished isn't related to that matter. See you next time 🦊🤘🔥

I just wanna add that there's a recent version of The One called Unfinished Version at The First Take channel, the same place where is the Monochrome Piano Version, I was talking about The One - Stairway To Living Legend version released in 2021 right before they "sealed" the group and thanking everyone, this new The One - Unfinished was released this year and near just like Akatsuki UV it's a short version of the 2021.🦊🤘

Great reaction! This concert (the legend 1997) is an old school rock opera, with multiple songs modified to fit the overarching story; Su-Metal sacrificing her j-idol self to become a metal goddess. The very first song is a pop/house version of one of their classics. The front songs in the show are more pop, they get harder and heavier as it goes on until this. This particular song is performed as a lament because she knows she is about to sacrifice her former j-pop idol self. If you ever get the opportunity, the whole concert is amazing for so many reasons, not the least is the idea that they actually performed a rock opera like some of the legends of old. The finale (death, legend 1997) is one of the most iconic insane performances I've seen by any band ever.

@@TheMindofBruce The full song title is 'BABYMETAL Death' - it is a play on words ... the Japanese word desu (the U is all but silent) means to be, I am, it is, we are etc, but spoken with a slight lisp sounds like the English word death. So 'BABYMETAL Death' = 'BABYMETAL desu' (or 'We are BABYMETAL'). Most often it is the show opener as they use it to introduce themselves ... at Legend 1997 it was a special occasion and was used for the finale.

⚡ / 🔴 A Su-metal classic. 'Akatuski' was her first solo song with BABYMETAL. It was released with the 'Megitsune' single in June of 2013. I think it's interesting she omits the final two lines of the song in this "Unfinished" version: "Dye crimson! Dye bloody crimson!". Su had performed the heavier version several times before this, and many times afterwards, but this is the only time the "Unfinished" version was ever performed. BTW, even though "akatsuki" can mean "daybreak" or "dawn", for this song the title translates to "red moon" (aka + tsuki). On the track listing they have replaced the character for "aka" with "kurenai" (often translated as a deep red or crimson), very likely as a tribute to the X-Japan song 'Kurenai'.

Great reaction. To get a really good break down on the lyrics and their meaning including explanations of the many cultural references (like the red thread - an oriental tradition where couples are bound together with a red thread tied to their little finger I think) google 'du-metal Akatsuki' - you will find he has explained everything about this song. This was a special one-off live performance of the unfinished version (the last lines'Dye crimson, dye bloody crimson' were not sung in this version). The full version is so different despite having the same lyrics, same melody etc. Legend 1997 was the concert in December 2013 celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday ... 6 months earlier they had a concert called Legend 1999 celebrating Yuimetal's and Moametal's 14th birthdays. In this one the kamishibai (video intro) played at the start explains the context of this song for this particular show which was all about Su-metal sacrificing her life as Suzuka Nakamoto the JPop Idol to be reborn as the Metal Goddess Su-metal, chosen to lead the Metal Resistance. The next song was the concert finale 'BABYMETAL Death' ... I think you will be amazed at the contrast between this emotion filled performance to that next song (make sure it is the Legend 1997 performance you watch if you decide to see that as well).

Great reaction, thanks! Song's name "Akatsuki" or "紅月 - ア カ ツ キ -" is actually the contraction of "akai + tsuki" meaning "red moon" or more specifically, crimson moon, and it's clearly a tribute to the song "Kurenai" by X-Japan. The kanji "紅" can be also read as "kurenai" and means "crimson red" (all credit to Du-Metal). You can always check his blog for lyrics translations, language notes and cultural references. And yes, the lyrics here are extremely poetic and it seems to be about facing the lost of a love but from an almost positive perspective and being grateful for having experienced it. You were actually expecting the regular version, here: "Akatsuki" (Live at Budokan Black Night): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZhjapV0mraufIE.html Same song, totally different experience. 😁 Until next time! 🤘🦊

Great reaction Bruce! Also, you are quite accurate with your interpretations. You should know that Babymetal's lyrics are purposefully "vague" since they want the listener to have their own interpretations. The "red thread" is a common Asian theme representing fated love, tying two people together. Also, here are a few nuggets of info to help understand the lore of this concert. Caveat, a lot of it is my own interpretation, so take it with a grain of salt lol. 1). IRL, this is Su-metal's 16th birthday celebration concert (Dec 2013). 2). This is when Babymetal was just starting to get big in Japan (not yet known internationally). So, out of this 14-song set, the 5-song encore was performed with Kami Band live. The first 9 songs are done to backing tracks, with actors in skeleton costumes pretend playing. IRL reason: Babymetal couldn't afford a full-time live session band up to this moment. 3). Concert lore: Metal is being oppressed by the evil J-Pop Idol industry, and metal heads cry out to the Fox God to save them. The Fox God sends Babymetal to infiltrate the Idol industry and to revitalize heavy metal in Japan (e.g., a fusion of J-Pop and Metal). Su-metal sacrifices her life as an Idol and mortal in the process to be reborn as a Goddess of Metal. 4). The concert starts off with EDM / very poppy and cutsie feel and slowly progresses to heavier and heavier songs, until finally... 5). The Fox God summons Gods of Guitars, Bass, and Drums (the Kami Band) to assist Babymetal in their fight against the Big Bad Idol industry (thus starting the 5-song encore). 6). The previous song (song 3 of 5 in the encore) is your first reaction, Headbanger. At the end of Headbanger, you'll notice Su-metal smacks the Gong and falls to the ground. To me, it symbolizes the beginning of her "death" as a mortal in her fight against the "big bad" Idol industry, which she was a part of. 7). Akatsuki, unfinished, immediately follows Headbanger, and in this case, to me, symbolizes her acceptance of her coming fate (vs a love song when stand-alone). 8). The last song of the concert ("BABYMETAL DEATH", your next reaction 😉), SHOWs her death as a mortal and ascension/rebirth as a Metal Goddess, in a most spectacular, epic, and metal way to close out this awesome sweet 16th celebration. 9). From this point forth, Kami Band plays for Babymetal at all their live events. And yes, as others have suggested, ABSOLUTELY react to Akatsuki (Budokan 2014, Black Night). While I loved Su's performance in the unfinished version, the full version is way better! 🤘🦊

Thanks for this reaction. Su-metal and Babymetal know how to deliver a song/performance like no other. As others have mentioned, even at such an early age. What is interesting is how they followed this up with: Babymetal Death at Legend 1997 performance. The unfinished version means piano version. And how a few months later Su-metal performed the full version of Akatsuki at Budokan 2014 Black Night. I suggest to react to both of them. It's really interesting to see what they've done with Akatsuki for the full version (which might be surprising, but had been performed before the unfinished version before, but 2014 makes it more clear what they are trying to do with it). And other to react to is Babymetal Death, also brings some nice... euh... contrast. 🙂
