Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey.🦊🤘🔥 Nice reaction, and just like you saw the party on BM live concerts is wild, especially with this song becoming super fun into something like a cult.👀 BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal". They are: *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25. *MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 23. *YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018. *MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently. None of them are related. After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said. They were part of Sabaton's Europe Tour, recently finished the Asian and Australian Tour, and everyone were having a blast with them coming back to the stage in this live tour and more is coming such the Babyklok Tour in the US along with Dethklok and another return to UK and Europe for a headline tour. Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one of BM fans favorite and got special meaning too. Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind. Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday. 15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date. This was at Legend 1997 (that's the title of this live concert referring to SuMetal birthyear) in 2013 celebrating SuMetal 16th Birthday, and the whole concert was special, if you want to know the rest of the songs finishing this, those are: - "Akatsuki" Unfinished Version, a beautiful SuMetal solo version with only a piano behind, the original song is a power/speed metal balad - "Babymetal Death", be ready for this insane ending, The live concert and also this song got plenty of tributes to the greatest metal bands, like Metallica and X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore. The statue behind is SuMetal resemblance and is a tribute to Metallica's Lady Justice. The official MV is also creepy for some fans, I guess the organ gave that effect, you'll also see the neckbrace there for the first time which is a tribute to Yoshiki from X-Japan. Another thing that you don't see so much here in their live performance is, when YuiMetal and MoaMetal are having fun with cryo or smoke gun, the choreography on this part is with them down on their knees and doing the "dogeza hedoban" which is like bowing down back and forth summoning the metal spirit represented by the neckbrace while SuMetal is standing with the mic rise up and her relentless death stare, that's another moment we called -NotACult- The Kami Band here are insane set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, "kami" means roughly "god", they're wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint to represent those spiritual entities. They rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarrists). They are: - Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, a beloved member, sadly he passed away in 2018. (R.I.P.) - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums tracks. - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP. You can see at the end (when SuMetal is crawling upstairs) his head got written "Happy Birthday". - Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japan music scene. It'll be fun if you can go with the rest of the songs of this special live concert but if you want another song that ranks high as a favorite you can watch: - _"Ijime Dame Zettai"_ live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 and you can witness a turning point in their career and a different type of live performance unlike this one with big top notch production. See you next time!🦊🤘🔥

This is Kawaii Metal - Cute Metal. "Low-key terrifying" is a great description of this unique band; Rob Halford called them "Metal Monster Ladies" and Rob Zombie told a fan of his who complained that they weren't 'real' Metal that "They roll harder than you". I'm Japanese. Thank for your great reaction. BABYMETAL's members are famous star (acting in TV. CM. etc) from when a child. The agency they work for is the largest entertainment company in Japan and has many stars. It is very difficult to get into this office, and female applicants need to be exceptionally beautiful, first of all. Many stars have been with the company since childhood and take various lessons from leading instructors, such as dancing, singing, acting, etc., and usually become an actress. And among them, a small number of people with high singing ability (like the lead vocal of BABYMETAL : Suzuka Nakamoto) becomes a musician. This is because it is very rare for a person to have both a beautiful appearance and a high singing ability. There are many videos of her singing from when she was in elementary school on KZfaq. BABYMETAL was created to make use of her talent in 2010(When she was 13years old).😀 When Babymetal song is voted in popularity by Japanese, 'Akatsuki' usually comes in first place.😀

Babymetal as a name for the band is actually a play on words in Japanese - heavy metal (ヘビーメタル) and Babymetal (ベビーメタル) rhyme and are written almost exactly the same. It was also chosen because they were inventing a brand new genre of metal - it's a baby genre. At the time, the members were also very young although I believe this isn't why the name was chosen.

Good reaction. Welcome to the crazy universe of BabyMetal. BabyMetal is an atypical heavy metal group, because they are idols. In Japan, idols are often paired with pop music (Jpop), and Babymetal was actually a subgroup of a larger idol group called Sakura Gakuin. Sakura was made up of girls between 10 and 15 years old dedicated to Jpop. When SuMetal (the singer) started she was 12 years old and MoaMetal/YuiMetal (the backup singers) were only 10 years old. Sakura represented the Japanese high school and the girls were distributed in clubs (traditional Japanese extracurricular activities such as cooking, swimming, basketball, sewing, etc.). One of the producers, a lover of heavy metal, saw that Su's singing could perfectly be used in metal and asked permission from the Mother House (Amuse) to create the heavy music club, proposing an experiment in fusion between metal and the pop. Nobody, as they themselves have confessed, had much hope for its outcome, but they gave it the green light and thus BabyMetal, Sakura Gakuin's heavy music club, was born. The first songs were intended for girls between 10 and 15 years old, who were Sakura's target audience. However, their quality and the fusion between pop and metal attracted attention beyond this audience and they began to frequent their metal concerts... a shocking audience of children and metalheads. And it worked, it worked so well that they began to support groups like Metallica, Red Hot, BMTH or Lady Gaga, I seem to remember, on their tours in Japan. And the Red Hot singer commented that he was impressed to realize that part of the public came to see them, not them. And so the base of BabyMetal fans grew. Sakura was a group in which, upon turning 15, the members had to leave (to pursue their careers elsewhere) and the producer (KobaMetal) requested permission again to create BabyMetal as an independent group. Success was already beginning to become a reality in Asia, so they authorized it, although Moa and Yui (they were still 13 years old) would also continue to be part of other Sakura clubs (I don't know when the poor girls studied, but they did). In 2014 a milestone would arrive in the group's history. They were already an established metal group in Asia that sold out concerts, but they had not yet made the leap to the West. In that year his song "Gimme Chocolate" rose to fame on KZfaq (currently 182M views) and attracted the attention of the producers of the Sonisphere festival. KobaMetal had doubts about taking the step, since their musical proposal (Kawaii Metal or Cute Metal, a genre of which they are considered creators) might not be accepted in the West and the metalheads who went to the Sonisphere had a reputation for saying goodbye to very bad manners to the artists they didn't like (even with bottles full of urine), but they were offered to go to one of the secondary stages (about 5000 spectators) and they ended up accepting. But the success of BabyMetal on KZfaq and the fact that all the concerts they were going to give in Europe were sold out in a few days, convinced the producers to take them to the main stage, where they would share with groups like Metallica, for example. How many girls (they were between 16 and 14 years old at that time) were "terrified" before going out, and they didn't know what scared them more: that they wouldn't understand their music and they would have to run away or that when they went out on stage it would be empty. . But the story was very different, not only was it not empty, but more than 50,000 metalheads, an estimated 95% of whom had never heard of them, finished their fifth and last song chanting "another one, another one." And that's how they achieved popularity in the West as well. They currently have 4 albums on the market: -Babymetal (2013): Their first album and the most childish of all, since they were between 15-13 years old when it came out and had energetic, positive music that left a smile on their faces. Headbangers is from this album. -Metal Resistence (2016): an album that, without losing the essence of the first, shows more mature music, going from childhood to adolescence. Songs like Karate were a large part of his presentation in the West. -Metal Galaxy (2018): a turning point in its style. Without abandoning their energy, they turned their attention to new forms of metal fusion (hip-hop, dance music, Hindu music or European folklore, among others), projecting a much more mature music in keeping with their age, which was already around 21 years old. of Su and the 18 of Moa (unfortunately Yui left the group due to health problems) And now in 2023 they have just released their new album "The Other One", which is, again, totally different from what they have done until now (one of the hallmarks of BabyMetal is that their songs are usually very different some from others (although they are all positive adrenaline releases) Currently BabyMetal is considered the most important Heavy Metal group in Japan (I'm not saying the best, that's for everyone to decide) and the most influential in history in the West (it has reached levels that no other Japanese heavy group has reached before). ). The journey through the Babymetal galaxy may be long, but it is certainly entertaining and with a few songs it drags you with a smile into the fox hole.

Great reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL! Yeah, no harsh vocals, but when you get used to Su-metal's clean vocals you won't go back. And you are absolutely right: pop way was easy money and they were already very charismatic idols. But we have to thank Kobametal to put them in the right way (for us). Even their early lore is based into fighting the evil pop idols who took over the world. Which is hilarious because they actually were trained idols. 😁 This concert took place in Makuhari, Chiba, Greater Tokyo Area. And, yes, that crowd is particularly awesome and here we can give kudos to Yui and Moa (the two younger girls) because it's part of their job to keep the crowd hyped and involved. I see it's already suggested so I second this: "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (Live at Sonisphere 2014). This is a festival performance in daylight. So, no pyro, no light show, no crazy stages, no own fans, just the Kami Band and the ladies in one of their most important gigs ever. Until next time! 🤘🦊

Harsh/rough vocals are all on track. For almost all songs, we do not even know who did them. The three girls (main vocalist Suzuka Nakamoto aka SU-METAL aka Su, Yui Mizuno aka YUIMETAL and Moa Kikuchi aka MOAMETAL) set out to become J-pop idols. Then Key Kobayashi (aka KOBAMETAL), a metal fan working in the idol industry, had the stupid idea to replace pop music with metal music. Everybody thought that would be a short-lived experiment and the company behind them (amuse inc., biggest entertainment company in Japan) did not provide additional funds for this group. The three girls had never heard metal music or the name of the genre "heavy metal" before. But they realized they can dance to it. So they went along with the idea. In the beginning, they did not even have proper costumes but performed in their own clothes and borrowed ones. Needless to say, that experiment got out of hand. The name BABYMETAL has three meanings: - Japanese wordplay on heavy metal. Only the first syllable/kanji is slightly different. - Birth of a new genre. They call it kawaii (cute) metal. - During their first live performance, the three girls were 12, 11 and 11 years old. Legend 1997 is the name of the concert, recorded December 21, 2013. Su was born in 1997. This is the concert/birthday party for her 16th birthday. Yui and Moa were 14 years old. It was in Japan.

No harsh vocals. Su has been performing since about 8 (she was a baby model even before that). The whole point is the combination of Su's clean vocals with the heavy music. The band is made up of some of the best musicians in Japan (and the world) and that is also a big part of the success of the group. This is from almost 10 years ago. They just released their most recent album and have 4 studio albums and about 13 live albums and tons of concert DVD/Blu-Ray. Babymetal is a live performance group. The studio albums are fine but the real experience is the live shows as you saw in this performance. Their Japan live shows are pretty unbelievable. They regularly sell out 20,000 capacity venues in Japan. They are currently finishing up their Asia tour (Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia) after a European tour with Sabaton and will be doing some more Japan shows and then the North American tour and then another headlining European tour. They are one of the hardest working groups out there. Every song has unique choreography and they dance and sing and play their asses off for 90 minutes.

In Japanese Babymetal looks nearly identical to heavy metal. It's kind of a pun. ヘビメタ Hebi Meta. ベビメタ Bebi Meta. There is no V or L in Japanese. Babymetal is a fusion of Japanese Idol and Metal. It's not a straight metal band. They invented this concept. Their producer was a metal musician working for the Children's division of the Amuse talent agency. It makes sense in that context. He had to use children. They were only 12 and 11 at the start. It makes more sense if you watch Suzuka Nakamoto in her previous group. She was the youngest of 3 girls. They performed the music for an Anime. They were pop songs but they had some guitar. It wasn't so different from Babymetal.

When Babymetal started the Japanese metal scene was about 20 years behind the US metal scene. Think hair metal. Aggressive vocals aren't really a thing in over 90% of historic metal. But the crowds do provide a version of harsh vocals to the songs with their roars in live Babymetal videos.

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊Funny you should say you would have thought their management or whoever would have had them go down the Pop Idol route - that was where they were destined to go if their Talent Agency (Amuse) had their way and that would have made far more commercial sense. Lucky for us their producer saw Suzuka Nakamoto aka Su-metal in her previous group and he was so impressed with her very loud (for a pop Idol) and full on singing style and stage presence that he was inspired to have her front a Metal-JPop fusion band (he is a lifelong metalhead) ... she was still only about 11 when he saw her for the first time. In 2010 the Amuse Talent Agency set up a school themed J-Pop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin as a way to coach and train about a dozen of the most talented girls on their books in all aspects of entertainment (singing, dancing, acting, modelling, writing, stage management etc) with a view to their choosing how they would like to continue their career when they were at school leaving age (15 in Japan). Sakura Gakuin was for girls aged 10 to 15 and had a school theme. Within that theme there were sub-units with themes like after school clubs (cooking, tennis, science etc) and three or four of the girls would be in each 'club' and they would have their own themed song and dance routines to perform at Sakura Gakuin shows and at Idol festivals. BABYMETAL formed as the Heavy Music club with Su-metal as lead vocalist (no, she does not growl etc, her vocals are clean and very clear, but she is so versatile and gifted and the whole concept was formed around her) and her two young friends Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) and Moa Kikuchi (Moametal) providing backing vocals, harmonies and in charge of getting the audience involved and hyped with their choreographed dancing. Su was 12, Yui and Moa were 11. Amuse were not impressed with the idea of BABYMETAL and provided no extra budget, but they allowed the producer to have his pet project as there was no financial risk - they just thought it would be a short-lived and failed experiment and that the girls would eventually continue with JPop. Against all the odds and everybody's expectations BABYMETAL found a new audience that nobody had foreseen happening and they started to grow in popularity. In 2013 Su would be 15 and would graduate from Sakura Gakuin (having the school theme it was for girls aged 10 to 15), but it was decided that BABYMETAL should be her vehicle as she furthered her career as a vocalist and should separate from the Idol group to go with her as an independent band in their own right. Yui and Moa also agreed to continue with BABYMETAL as they also took this next step in their own careers - but they had 2 more years until they would graduate from Sakura Gakuin, so they were working in both groups for those two years. Legend 1997 was the concert in December 2013 the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday (Yui and Moa were both still 14) and it marked the final stage of their separation from Sakura Gakuin and from the JPop Idol system. They have gone on to become one of the very best live bands on the planet (and have won international awards to prove that is not just my opinion). Their big arena shows are spectacular, but they put on great shows every time, even in smaller venues and festivals as they tour the world where they can't always have all the special effects and flames etc too. They started without a backing band, they sang and danced to pre-recorded instrumentals on a backing track. Now they are supported in live shows by the Kami Band who you saw and heard here - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. There are many people who have played in the Kami band, but they only have 2 guitarists, 1 bass player and 1 drummer for each concert (there was an exception to that rule for a special occasion in 2020, but this comment will be too long already without explaining that). The Kami Band were phased in gradually after October 2012 playing a couple of festivals and the encores in a few shows. Legend 1997 was the last time they only played the encores, they became the full time support for all live shows at the start of 2014 and have been with BABYMETAL ever since - but only for live shows, they do not record the studio versions. The Kami Band of the West - American musicians have supported BABYMETAL in the more extended foreign tours since 2019. BABYMETAL are pretty much unique in that they invented their own genre and their own way of doing things. Do not try to categorise them as just one thing or to put them in any one box. You will not be able to predict them, just expect the unexpected. They don't copy anybody or follow the same format as nearly every other band (for a start they have brought choreographed dance to metal). They have about 60 songs now, each one different to the last, they have songs in virtually every metal genre but will also mix and blend so many other styles and genres with the metal. Some songs are good hard metal, some lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. I'm sure you will get suggestions for more reactions - pick any song, ideally a live performance. Oh yes the name BABYMETAL is not about their age (although when they started in 2010 they were aged 12 and 11 so it probably did play a part too). The name was chosen for two reasons: - to symbolise that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal) - because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is nearly identical to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love a pun): BABYMETAL = ベビーメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru) heavy metal = ヘビーメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru)

In the concert with the legend Rob Halford, Su did some really nasty and tasty fry vocals at the end of Breaking The Law. I never saw anyone talking about it but that sounded amazing! I may upset some people lol but you're right it would be outstanding and interesting seeing and hearing the Metal Goddess rock some harsh vocals occasionally someday, she has the training and ability to do so. However making it pretty clear we don't really need that since her singing is already uniquely enough and imo the most wonderful and impactful singing in the world.

Been listening to these ladies on and off since they became world renowned some years back. Got to see them live less than two months ago, opening for Sabaton in Oslo. They rocked hard! This is a Japanese band that's basically taken the "pop idol" cultural phenomenon of their country and combined it with metal. And while this is a good song, they have some that I personally think are much, much better. "Megitsune" is probably my favourite of theirs, and has a cool music video as well.

Well now... These are three exceptionally talented young women (now, they were mid-teens in this video). Su, the lead singer, has a beautiful voice, and no, it has no "harsh" mode. I wouldn't be here if that were the case, thankfully. Don't get me started on the embarrassment that is "growling" and "screamo". However, they do mix in some growly accents in the backing track, which work well as condiments, and actually accentuate the performance, not diminish it. Others will fill you in on where explore on your journey through Babymetal's catalog, but suffice it to say their live performances are generally where they shine. They also have some great music videos, such as Megitsune (Japanese for female fox), and Karate. I really hope you enjoy your Babymetal journey!

I recommend you next react to "BABYMETAL - Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014,UK (OFFICIAL)". That was their first time doing a big concert OUTSIDE asia, and they were terrified of how the public will react, but they ended wining the crow :) Why METAL? That's a very interesting question. Those three were part of a program to create young idols in japan, Sakura Gakuin. And most of the bands they form in Sakura Gakuin were pop ones. But one of the producers was also a metal fan so he had the idea of mixing japan pop with metal. And since there are so many idol pop bands in japan, they ended having more success because of their uniqueness. Yeah, they were very young back in this concert (which anyway, it referes to the year Su-Metal, the main vocalist, born) and they are still relevant and doing world tours.

Awesome reaction. I love your reaction when Su (the main singer) did her death glare lol. You were pretty on point with how Su's career started. She actually WAS training to become a pop idol, she was even in a pop group before this called Karen Girls. However, one of the teachers at the school she was attending to train to become a pop idol heard her singing and thought her voice was too powerful for pop music and thought it'd be wasted on pop music. He is a huge fan of metal music and had the idea in his head of mixing pop and metal to see what would happen. So he took Su-Metal, got a session band and formed Babymetal centered around Su-Metal, thus Babymetal was born. In terms of growls and screams, no she doesn't do that, but then there are other female metal vocalists that don't either, and male vocalists now that I think of it. Most powermetal singers that I'm thinking of right now don't do screams or growls, and most female vocalists from Symphonic Metal bands like After Forever also don't really do growls or screams. So it isn't unheard of. In terms of the name of the concert, the song is entitled Headbanger, the concert was Legend of 1997. The year is in reference to Su's birthday. At the time of this concert she had just turned 16, the 2 dancers were roughly 14.5 years old. So they were very young, and already commanding a crowd of that size and already had that crowd wrapped around their little fingers lol Anyhow, if you are already liking this band this much after only hearing one song, I think you're going to be stuck loving them because normally it takes people about 3 songs before they realize they like the band, before that they're too confused trying to figure out what the hell they just saw and heard lol Anyhow, looking forward to more Babymetal reactions from you! You'll also find that they like to mix things up, so no 2 songs will ever sound the same. They mix genres with metal, and even though that SOUNDS like it isn't going to work.... they somehow always make it work. Even genres I don't like, EDM for instance. They have an EDM version of this very song that I think is amazing. Anyhow enjoy the journey!

> "BABYMETAL... Not the best band name... Let's call it an odd one." Not so odd if you know the background of the name. The name, amongst other things, signifies that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music. It, also, is a rather genius choice when it comes to the Japanese writing: Heavy Metal = ヘビーメタル BABYMETAL = べビーメタル Do you notice the (only) difference? > "How old are they?" The show this footage is from, took place in December 2013. The girls were 16 (lead singer) and 14 years old back then (almost ten years ago). > "If she only does clean vocals, a management team would push her to the pop/rock..." Well... Other than often stated by haters of this band, BABYMETAL wouldn't exist at all if the management had decided back then. It's due to the persistence of one man who started this fabulous craziness!

Anyway, keep reacting to BABYMETAL and steer clear of compilation videos: BABYMETAL compilation videos (ANY compilation videos for that matter) are, in my opinion, an insult to both the viewer and the band; the music is certainly overdubbed, and the changes in venue and costumes (sometimes even personnel) can be confusing if not completely annoying; it's like eating prime rib after somebody else chewed it.
