Welcome back to BabyMetal's metalverse.🦊🤘🌐 Nice to see you're back with this new BM single. I think you skipped their previous and first single of this upcoming 4th concept album ", The Other One" called ",Divine Attack - Shingeki", try it want so you can get a more clear picture of this BM side we've never seen before, so far there's no copyright blocked issues so don't worry putting the clip and watching the official lyrics or the visualizer. A few days ago was SuMetal 25 birthday so thanks for being around in this special month for us. We all know so far that this time they're introducing us to their metalverse with 10 different worlds and songs, and we're gonna see the full picture once the full concept album is out, probably some more hints with the next singles coming and the live performance next January. OTFGK. These are the credits: *Monochrome* Lyrics : MK-METAL Music & Arrangement : YUPPEMETAL (aka Yuyoyuppe) he's the one behind songs like Karate, Rondo Of Nightmare, Megitsune and Kagerou, he knows his business and totally rocks. Funny thing you mentioned about Tim Henson, they have a collab song with both Polyphia's members, Tim Henson and Scott Lepage, in a song from previous 3rd album called "Brand New Day", another great collab song and very different, many people find similarities between these two songs but i think both are different in terms of genres, maybe only the guitar elements like you said and the slow pace in both songs. Like SuMetal said at the end: _"Just smile"_ 🙂 Thanks for your breakdown and again don't miss out the official lyrics to get a little bit of understanding what's going on with this beautiful song. See you next time.🦊🤘🌈

You ABSOLUTELY have to listen/watch to some live stuff if you haven't already - it's almost ivariably better - try for Japanese venues if possible. The music and lyrics work really well together on Monochrome imo - it helps a lot to know what she's singing about tbh. Again watch them LIVE 👍

Welcome back and good reaction. This is the only song where they released a lyric video along with it and I think there is a reason for that. It is a song where you really need to see the lyrics and the visuals in that video to truly get the meaning and the references to Norse mythology with Ragnarok and the tree of life and then the visual references to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima (Su-metal's home town) and Nagasaki. As ever BABYMETAL leave us with a sense of hope, bringing colour back to the world after the darkness and catastrophic events.

BABYMETAL is the fusion of J-pop and metal, so i cant understand how anyone would be mad at pointing out the pop elements. Anyway this was a great reacting and explication of how then song was constructed, thank you so much.

I am from the woodstock generation of 1969, and back then, there was a normal fusion of light pop and rock music. So it seems to me that many of the older generation like me can relate to a style like BABYMETAL's. As a Japanese, I feel that BABYMETAL's pop music has the feel of Japanese pop music from decades ago, rather than modern JPOP. I also see them incorporating older, more traditional Japanese music.

Love it! Loved your Dream Theater reactions and I recently have been doing a deep dive on Babymetal and love the diversity in their songs. Like Dream Theater, so many songs are extremely different. I'd be interested to see your take on Tales of the Destinies live. Babymetal's producer is an avid Dream Theater fan and that song is a direct homage to them. Also I believe it'd an absolute must for you to react to Road of Resistance live in Japan. Extremely high energy and inspirational. The girls were so young for that show and their amount of stage presense and confidence is astounding. And the band is super tight and amazing live!

Babymetal is very much a live band. Like Pink Floyd or Rammstein, they are as visual as they are aural. Studio recordings are not their stringest suit, and they have had a few songs where I waited to see the performance to try and understand what it is about. Of course this song hasn't been performed yet so we have just the images to go by. Which seem to be related to an apocalypse, and that if we pull together we will see it through. The monochome firework is a nuclear bomb, which is fitting as the singer Suzuka's hometown is Hiroshima, and her granparents, some of them at least, witnessed the bomb. Babymetal has layers. They did do a song on the last album collaborating with Time Henson and Scott LePage on their last album, a track called Brand New Day. Worth checking out. Lastly, Monochrome is a mood, this has the sound of the band, but does not sound like anything else they have done. Which is a trademark of the group.

Monochrome was composed by Yuyoyuppe. He has been a Vocaloid producer. Yuppe has composed most of Babymetal's best songs. (Megitsune, Karate, Headbanger, Rondo of Nightmare, etc etc) Monochrome sounds a lot like 'Leia' a metal Vocaloid he made around 2009. I think Leia is a better song. Leia sounds a lot like Babymetal. Leia is a very well respected Vocaloid and was included in the most recent Sega Vocaloid rythm game 'Project Sekai featuring Hatsune Miku'. Here is Leia in the game :) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZ6dhKmH2bO4g3U.html

Great breakdown! If anyone would have tried to tell me 20 years ago that one day my favorite band would be fronted by dancing Japanese girls I would have certainly thought they were nuts, but here we are. I'm an old songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer myself, having been in rock and metal since the eighties I recognize that the production on this song is done with almost no wander on the grid at all as far as the instrumentation. In addition there seems to be a minimum of saturation, keeping it all very crisp and defined. Over all, the emotion of this track is amazing, its probably one of the most effective combinations of heavy guitars/djent and "pop" vocals BABYMETAL has released to date. The more I hear it, the more it hits me "in the feels". I can't wait to see what live performance of this song adds to the overall effect. (Live BABYMETAL is always the best BABYMETAL) Considering the first two releases, I am also excited to see what the full album, slated to be released in March, is going to deliver. Kitsune dao!

Nice reaction. This is Babymetal. If it sounds too much like one genre. It's not a Babymetal song. They've been mixing genres from day one. That's a Babymetal hallmark. The amazing thing is how they change it up from song to song and as soon as you hear it. You know you're listening to Babymetal. Imo that has a lot to do with Su the lead singers very distinctive voice. Also stylishly Moa's backing vocals singing that pop style hook. That which in turn will be what many fans are waiting for when this is done live. Because this is where the fan participation is going to come. Singing with Moa and listening to Su is mostly how their live shows go. I'm a bit surprised you didn't watch the lyric video. This is a first for Babymetal. They wanted us to know this song. So they put the words in English. Thanks Babymetal that was kind of you. They do love and appreciate their fans. Babymetal everything you want in music and somethings you didn't know you needed

The Babymetal albums are probably a little over-produced. Their songs really shine when they are performed live though - but there is still a lot of the arrangement filled in with a backing track (synth, backing vocals and some percussion/traditional Japanese instruments). The session musicians they use when they perform live are exceptional and the drums in particular (I suspect there may not even always be a real drummer involved in the studio) are awesome when performed live. There's actually a video on KZfaq of a Glastonbury Babymetal sound check (Megitsune) which is a good educational demonstration of their backing tracks :D Their sound is awesome and the fact that they're not afraid to experiment with their "genre" is what I love about them.

The drums that are so crisp are that crisp for a reason. On the studio tracks, it is widely known that they use a machine. That is why I cannot wait to see the live version of this song. EITHER of the Kamis (Aoyama-san or Anthony) are going to get a serious workout -- and it will be AWESOME.

Babymetal has always been great at taking the most exciting parts of metal music, and fusing it with pop music. They began back in 2010 by putting metal riffs inside J-pop music, and the juxtaposition was so extreme for the time that it got lots of attention. Now, they've hidden the seams entirely and it's no longer metal sections and pop sections, but simply good music with elements of both.

BabyMetal has been my favorite band since 2016. This is coming from a Prog/Djent fan lol. Still upset over the the departure of Yui. It's not the same especially when they play older stuff especially with Black BabyMetal songs (Yui and Moa duet). It's weird seeing Moa by herself performing those songs when they were written as a duet. Still would love to see a reaction to "Odyssey To The West" by Slice The Cake. That's an album that must be listened to from start to finish.

If you want to dig deeper into the world of Japanese all-girl rock bands, and more importantly some incredible bass lines I can't reccomend Gacharic Spin (Gah-char-ick Spin) and Band Maid enough. For memorable bass riffs I'd reccomend "Mirai Ronso" from Gacharic Spin and "Play" from Band Maid. F. Chopper Koga (Koh-gah) of Gacharic Spin and Misa (Me-sah) of Band Maid are two of the most talented electric bass players I've ever heard.

To me at first listen this track has a lot of well performed elements, each of which appears to have been produced and engineered to the absolute limits of current technology. I can imagine this track being selected at high end audio shows to demonstrate the equipment's performance characteristics such as fast transients, frequency extension, cohesion during complex dynamic peaks, etc. However I share Geebz's feeling of conflict that the ultra engineered parts are perhaps too polished and manufactured at the cost of soul and feeling. I felt like I was having a multitude of strong conflicting flavours thrown at me in rapid succession, when I'd far rather experience fewer complimentary flavours so that I could savour the subtlety of how those flavours combine and compliment each other. This may well be an 'oldy' thing as I'm of at least equal age as Geebz. This track felt like quickly downing a line of shots, for comparison earlier today I finally 'got' Tool's Fear Innoculum album which felt like discovering an exceptional single malt whisky. I deliberately chose the 'flavour' analogy here to highlight that it comes down to personal taste in the end.... I enjoy savouring single malts, but many prefer a line of shots.

A lot of Japanese metal has a pop element. You should listen to Detroit Metal City - Satsugai. It's the opening song for a anime about a kid who's a crazy metal lead singer who wears make-up to hide his identity but in real life he's super timed. The anime also makes a lot of inside jokes about metal that metal fans would get.

Monochrome sounds great and with BM you are always going to get that combination of metal with pop elements, that's really their thing. The one part that I don"t like in Monochrome is the "Dah dat dah..." vocal hook that I feel is too poppy. The definitive version will emerge from live performance and I'll wait to see what the do with that vocal hook. Other than that I think BM's producer Kei Kobayashi and the songwriters are back on form after some mis-steps on the third album. You mentioned the prog elements so I suggest you listen to BM's "Tales of the Destinies at the Tokyo Dome" next.

However a lof of these bands have a lot in common their producer a man named Sasha Paeth(think i spelled that right) Why i sugest the scarecrow? A little backstory if you'll indulge me. My parents are british. My mom had older siblings so she grew up on classical, opera, doo wap, as well as british rock, my dad was all british rock and experimental stuff (kraftwerk and such). So i grew up listening to many varieties and sounds. Power Metal i always describe as iron maiden, meets queen, meets lord of the rings. But the scarecrow. They are not a real band. They do not write their own songs. And they do not sing live. They are a J-Pop act masquerading as Metal.

Who decides the rules on what constitutes a "real band"? They have songs written for them, they also have writing credits, they ALWAYS sing live, they are a fusion of Metal with JPop aesthetics and have never claimed to be anything other than that ... in the intro song to the third album a lyric even states "This aint heavy metal, welcome to the world of BABYMETAL". If you don't like the music or the sound fair enough, don't listen to it - they have enough people round the world who do appreciate them, they won't miss you. Just make your mind up if you don't like it because of the music or sound not appealing to you or if you just have a ridiculous, fantastical (an ultimately unrealistic) notion of an ideal model of what trve metal should be.

The popular Japanese music scene is dominated by talent agencies, and BM is no different. Yes, they employed talented, metal-oriented session musicians (of which there is a lot of unrecognized talent in Japan), but BM is merely a gimmick concept for an "idol group" that largely caught on with foreign Japanophiles, all controlled and orchestrated by nameless producers and songwriters. There are some extremely talented avant-garde metal/noise musicians in Japan; but this is basically the Japanese version of a New Kids on the Block/Lou Pearlman scam.

So sad to be cough in the past, a 5 second google search would bring you the name of the producer or the musicians they work with, BM are here to break the "Elite" hold on metal and try something new and people all over see that not just "Japanophiles" as you tried to insult all BM fans with, I wonder how many "real bands" acording to your rules are "Japanophiles" RHCP, Metallica, Rob Zombie, Rob Halford and many, many more, I for one dont watch anime, I dont like samurais or their swords, Im not even a fan of their culture or food as a whole, Im a old metal head who is not affright to let people try new things with music and if it sounds good, it sounds good. Get off your high horse and enjoy life a little.

Hey, how many big metal bands out there without a gimmick concept? For a scam Babymetal worked so well, why no one else copy them, mass produce them yet? How many idol groups out there can survive and even grow without pushing daily/monthly contents? Without utilizing internet and social medias? And Babymetal only active for like 10 days per year when they started (mostly in summer because girls have school and stuffs), still their success and growth is undeniable fact I understand where you come from but Babymetal existed, so well and for so long for many reasons: - They're exploring something completely unique and original that other afraid to do or failed before, like dancing with metal music or mixing so many genres well together... - They're extremely talented in bring a quality, spectacular show - like the idea of "not-a-band" or not, they got really talented people for music and the presentation of their music - SU-metal for example, some may not like her voice and she definitely not "the best vocalist" something but she's so unique that studio autotune 99% actually make her voice worse, her stage presence and dedication in delivering quality vocal performance is better than most too. - They bring positive to life for many, the sense of unity, encouraging and might be unadulterated fun in their music and live show - and anyone, from any age and gender can enjoy their music - it can be appropriate and gateway to a wider music taste for metalhead, pop casual listener, their moms, their kid, their wives or husbands too... - They keep evolving with their mixing styles, every song is distinctive, keep it fresh and unpredictable, beyond how normal bands usually stick to their one style, because they can affort those changes and lose old fans - They're a product that not entirely focused on sale and business, is not exploited for sale and business (there's almost no info, image, whatsoever of the girls outside their appearance with Babymetal, heck they don't even hold meet&greet or autograph events), there's definitely an artistic love from everyone behind BM

You are 100% wrong here. Yes, they are a produced band, but they are serious about their music and have written some of their own songs. Their backup band is world-class. These girls go hard, much harder than many of the bands I'm sure you profess to like. To call this a scam is to shit on TEN YEARS of content, more than a 50 song discography, and multiple world tours, not to mention sold out DOMESTIC shows with JAPANESE people at the world renown Budokan arena, TWICE. The Budokan does not open it's doors to many and is seen as a prestige mark for any band worthy of playing in that space. They have the backing of multiple world-class metal musicians who call them a metal band through and through. Wake up and smell the roses, you lame duck. Come back when you have 10 years of content and can dance on a stage while singing music for more than an hour straight. The fox god has judged you and found you wanting.
