Welcome back and great reaction ... I couldn't read your face as you were listening to the song so I couldn't tell if it was concentration, consternation (or something else beginning with con). I'm so glad you really liked it - it had that same effect on me the first time I heard it too .... I've listened to it so much, watched the live versions (they are beautiful by the way) and I love this song, it really is one of their best, yet amazingly it is not even my favourite track on this album! As has been said, we need to see your reaction to the piano version they did on The First Take channel. An album review (this is an album that really does deserve to be listened to in order) would also be great if you fancy doing that. You don't have to get a copy of the album with that cover - there are 10 special edition cover (each relating to one of the songs on the album) you can get from the Babymetal UK store that are much better (and no extra cost I think), just pick the one you like best. I went in blind and pre-ordered one before seeing the artwork ... I'm happy with what I got, I may have chosen differently if I'd waited.

Welcome back to BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐 It's been a while. Since you made a lot of BM reaction and you look so interested on them i was expecting for you to go watch any of their live concerts in the UK as part of Sabaton's Europe Tour and get some review about it. Anyway i hope you get the chance when coming back to UK and Europe next BM headline tour in November/December and enjoy this song like everyone is enjoying this live in every concert of this tour. Hopefully you won't have the same issue Copenhagen had when the sound went off just when SuMetal was about to ask everyone take their phones out and illuminate this dark world, a magical moment to connect with the crowd, but you already know the girls they always smile and give their best either way, so after that problem was fixed they came back to finish the last two songs and everyone was happy for such a dope set. I second the suggestion over Monochrome Piano Version at "The First Take", you don't wanna miss that beautiful version. See you next time 🦊🤘🌈

Dude... This WHOLE album is phenomenal. Like on a whole other level. There are no..."fun"? songs on this album...well not fun like Gimme Chocolate or Papaya or anything like that. And it's not the DragonForcey speed/power metal we've heard them do before like Amore and Road of Resistance. This album is very prog. Very EDM. Very... Mature. And my favorite off the album, Time Wave, isn't even very metal to be honest. It's like a mix of club, EDM, futuristic groovy bass beats, and one of the coolest snare drum beats that sticks in your head for hours. This isn't the same BABYMETAL we grew up with. You HAVE to listen to the rest of the album.

I would say Metalizm is quite fun, besides being really good of course. Probably my favourite to listen to because it's fun, unique and easy on the ears. There's a difference between what I listen to the most and what I think is the best written, most intricate songs.

Interesting reaction. When I heard the song for the first time I felt similar to you. I was surprised at first and had to think a little why the song touched me so much. The thought came to me that this song might be the best Babymetal song ever. And after seeing it live (and the first take version) it's now the best Babymetal song for me.

This monochrome, and this album, really stand out from the rest of BABYMETAL's songs. It is a work that contains a message that appeals to a deep theme, as well as its musical diversity approach. It is exactly THE OTHER ONE. They expressed the worldview that had been steadily accumulated and contained until now.

Nice to see a new BM video from you! The new stuff certainly has a more mature quality to it. I'm actually one of those who don't see that as a purely positive thing, I actually prefer the more playful earlier style (a little), but that's another discussion. There have been interpretations of this song being about the nuclear bombs in WWII, the monochrome firework being the blinding light of the explosion. And it totally seems to fit the visuals in the video, to be honest. Having that in mind gave the song a completely new quality for me, suddenly the chorus seems so much more emotional to me (especially considering that Su was born in Hiroshima). Recent interviews suggest that this interpretation was not their intention, but who knows. Their songs are often created in such a way as to be open to individual interpretations. If you don't mind checking out not only another BABYMETAL video, but (more or less) the very same song, there's a piano version of it on the KZfaq channel "The First Take", which is just that, a first take recording of as stripped down version of the song. I highly recommend checking that out. I have been a fan for years and I adore Su, but this has taken it to a new level. Her vocals are genuinely fantastic in that one, and I think I can say that without any fan bias. You'd probably be surprised.

I know it's almost a generic thing to say about a band and their songs in general but what I am so grateful for to BABYMETAL is just how uplifting their music and songwriting is in general. This song is as you said more "serious", melancholic, sad in a sense, but it's giving a sense of hope and puts a positive spin on your feelings. I know that that's what made me connect with this song, and maybe that's what got you in a way as well? I fondly remember you tearing up when you watched The One at Tokyo Dome. I feel it's kind of the same. This sense of hope, warmth, wholesomeness in the togetherness.

DO try and look at the other versions of this if you can - the First take and live are wonderful and both very different - as usual - to their studio stuff. This (until mirror mirror) was the only track that did to me what the older BM did - grab me instantly on the first hearing (based a lot on what I thought it was about). I think they put a lyric video up here (first time I think) to actually pay some attention to. Keep the good work up anyway :) - I do wonder how much of their older stuff you've seen though that a lot of the older stuff seems to be placed in the gimmick bin

Great to see you back with _new_ Babymetal! Thanks for finally getting to "Monochrome" and not missing it with all these new Babymetal videos released. I think the whole new album is great, yet "Monochrome" is definitely one of its biggest highlights. In addition to releasing the album (with six songs to date also released as videos) Babymetal did something new for them making two appearances at "The First Take". Below is some (copypasted) info with links. THE FIRST TAKE is a KZfaq Channel dedicated to shooting musicians and singers performing in a single take. "ONE TAKE ONLY, ONE LIFE ONLY." Episode 299 welcomes BABYMETAL, the one and only metal-dance unit taking the world by storm, to THE FIRST TAKE for the first time. They will perform their mid-tempo rocker, *"Monochrome",* from their concept album, "THE OTHER ONE". SU-METAL and MOAMETAL’s voices are like a dash of color in a desolate world. The piano arrangement created for THE FIRST TAKE enhances their performance. Enjoy the one-shot performance by these two world-class artists in a tension-mounting atmosphere. *Monochrome - Piano ver. - THE FIRST TAKE:* kzfaq.info/get/bejne/npOYg6qDuNDLnac.html On episode 309, BABYMETAL, the unrivaled dance unit that’s recently announced the start of its new chapter, returns to THE FIRST TAKE. With the addition of MOMOMETAL, the revitalized group will perform *"THE ONE"* - the long-loved BABYMETAL anthem that symbolizes what the latest version of BABYMETAL will entail. Enjoy their one-shot performance of their epic signature by their renewed triple vocal sound. *THE ONE - Unfinished ver. - THE FIRST TAKE:* kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ndZzqMmYt93LaX0.html

Hedgy, there are some songs on this album that had me laughing (in a good way) with how "heavy" they were. of course, it's Babymetal so all songs are going to do Babymetal things. For your own enjoyment (not asking for a reaction). Check out "Believing" (audio only track is on the Babymetal channel), Maya (audio only), and Mirror Mirror (official video). But yeah, that's what this album is all about. An intentional effort to separate Babymetal from what they were to what they are, which are grown ass women in their mid 20s. The entire album has the same stylistically mature "theme". The closest song on the album to this one would be Metal Kingdom (official video).

It’s like a bugle playing taps. It’s Su’s voice. And the harmony of the chorus. Brings tears. Karate MV has the same effect on me. They have other songs/performances that deeply affect me (RoR and I,D,Z) where the crowd plays into the feeling, but with these two it’s the pure beauty of the voices. Katsune up.

Might the drums be a part of it? I think they're programmed, but there are a lot of heroic fills, in this song but also through the rest of the album too. I've said more than once that it's almost like the drums are the lead instrument on this record. Apart from that, the tone of the songs is a little darker, more meditative, more emotional. There's also a lot of electronic music in the album. Those sounds have always been part of the mix I suppose, but this time they are more brooding, and more in the foreground. Wouldn't want to be the kind of annoying person demanding more reactions, but I have to admit I'm curious what you would think of the full album.

Nice reaction. Watching the fan cams from their current tour. They performed this song and Su does a bit with the audience. Making an emotional connection with the audience in a new way for them. Su hums while Moa does those backup vocals with the audience. And it does feel more mature. all of them are in their 20's now. Su is 25. The kids from Babymetal are all grown up. And they're creating a new legend for themselves. Starting the next ten years of Babymetal with a fireworks.

Hey Hedgy. It`s been a long time...Su actually wrote the lyrics to this one. The whole album is an incredible "genre blender". It`s actually next level in it`s diversity. Su sounds better than ever as her voice has matured immensely and the music has also matured a great amount. The songs are very catchy and even not knowing a lick of Japanese, some are quite heartfelt as Su`s vocals seem to always bring a certain amount of emotion to the listener. BTW...I`m a "co-founder" of BABYMETAL Family group and I`m glad Just Panda got you your badge. I actually did the design myself on our badges...Kitsune up!

I think this song is so good because 1 the vocal harmony / melody on the chorus is fantastic. but really 2 the best part is the way the same lead guitar part in the first two instances, over dissonant minor chord progression... Eventually resolves so nicely over resonant major chord progression,, and creates a new nice harmony with the same (almost) lead guitar part . Beginning towards the end with a sweet topping off with that last vocal note and dissonant major sounding harmony ...absolutely tasty

The reaction was a bit surprising and good. This album will not sell as well as the previous three, but it is a really good, calm album. I think they decided to make one serious album from various situations. What they ended up with was a traditional metalcore album. It is a bit sad and even nostalgic. In the past, there were many good albums that touched my heart, and I thought that BABYMETAL wanted to be part of that group of albums.

I didn't see any of the comments at the top mentioning it, so I will say: There are a lot of references in this video that make people think about the Hiroshima atomic bombing, so it might be that the thing that connected with you! I finally saw them live yesterday in Cologne! It was probably just not a good match and Lordi were fitting the "feel good" power metal attitude much better, but nevertheless it was quite embarassing to see Baby Metal opening for Sabaton: the beer-drunken narrow-minded crowd came mostly for "noch ein beer" ("one more beer"), sweaty moshing and roaring Sabaton songs louder than the band, therefore it was mostly just standing there as if it was on a funeral or something. Facepalm.

👍 👍 Great reaction. I have seen the LIVE Pro Shot video of this song performed on the second night of their back to back sold out concerts at Tokyo in January. There is a point in the where Suzuka addresses the audience and asks them to “Take your phone out!” and “Turn on your light!” She then says “That’s amaaaaazing!” “Looks like stars!” She then begins to hum the lyrics to the song while 20,000 lights surround the stage. Breathtaking. I havd seen LIVE Pro Shots or in some cases fan cams of the other new songs from concerts in Japan and the European leg of their current world tour and as always the LIVE vocals of Suzuka/Moa and Momoko as well as The Kami’s are sooo much better than the studio. I am sorry for starting asking around about this song. I don't have any clue because I am not a native English speaker. Please teach me your opinion. The question is how you listen three "KaRa" parts; IRoASeTeKu KaRa (4.47 on your track), SaMeTeShiMaU KaRa (5.56) and YaGaTeASaHaKuRu KaRa. (6.43) When only the first "KaRa" and the second "KaRa" make you hear "color", I will smile in these three parts because a possible hiding meaning of the first and the second can be "color changing into monochrome".

I have a tolerance/indifference relationship with this....act...and part of my problem is that I can't call them a band. I always want to run and put on something loud and fast by Band-Maid. Funnily enough, my weird and on-going infatuation with K-pop started (via KZfaq recommendations) with trying, and trying hard to like Babymetal, so I'm all over the place here. Not for me but I know they give joy to millions and for that, kudos to you Babymetal.
@Grington300
@Grington300 Жыл бұрын
Simple solution ... if your definition of "band" is too narrow and doesn't apply don't call them a band, take them for what they are - Babymetal. "Don't think. Feel." They are original, different and innovative. They don't do things the same way everybody else does (like all those bands who follow the same old stereotypical "band" format that virtually everybody has been doing for decades). Do you like the music, do you like the performance, do they entertain you - those are the only things that matter. If not, no problem, but if so stop trying to squeeze them into a box that is too small and too restrictive for them. Just sit back, relax, take it for what it is (don't try to understand) and enjoy what you see and hear.
@10Shun

Until someone accepts that not all music MUST be put out by "a band" then they will never get the appeal of Babymetal. I just literally came back from a full a capella choir performance which was astounding. No one was playing an instrument other than their voices. It did not diminish a bit the fact that the choir produced great music. And thus must be admired for what they brought to the table. Same goes with Babymetal. If one can not decouple their minds from strict but utterly flawed assumption that heavy metal "must be performed by a band", then it is hopeless. Better just listen to those conventional groups that fit that style and let Babymetal be who they are. They have done exceptionally well not being a traditional band to make narrow-minded people happy.

@@peterkarargiris4110 That's fair. I'm a big Babymetal fan but one would still pay me to lisen to Uki Uki Midnight, Da Da Dance and Elevator Girl. These "fails" do not make my appreciation for their legit credentials as a heavymetal act any less. These ladies have more metal street cred by the time they turned 20 than most of us will ever have our entire lives. And for me at least, they need not "play their own instruments" to gain that accolade.
