It is more or less consensus among the fans this song is a tribute to Mikio Fujioka who passed away star gazing. The lyrics are very much about "We'll never forget you". To me personally this song is very much Babymetal. To be honest it is among their very best songs. I do agree it is has bit more mature-ish feeling than some of their other stuff.

There's no info about a new album, yet. On the Australian leg of the tour they performed as a trio again, and I was suprised myself how happy I was to see that. It was just so much better than the 4, 5 or 7 people formation. It just seemed like the way it's supposed to be. No idea if they are going to stick with Saya, but I hope they'll find a permanent third member. I still can't really cope with the fact that they are growing up. I like Starlight (more than Distortion), but I do think that it could have more of what made them special. Call me stubborn and living in the past, but Babymetal without the girls jumping up and down hyping up the crowd is not really what people subscribed to. The new songs so far don't sound like they'll incorporate much of that. Don't get me wrong, it's still very good music and heaps of fun live. But if it had been Starlight or Distortion I had stumbled across on KZfaq back then instead of Gimme Chocolate, I probably wouldn't be sitting here writing this surrounded by merchandize. But it's too early to draw any conclusions. Let's just wait and see where they'll take us.

Hey, not sure if you'll read this but the song is actually a tribute to their late guitarist Mikio Fujioka. If you look up the lyrics along with this information, it's actually quite a beautiful song.

You can sing about bubble gum at any age. Lots of groups have a candy song that follows them for their entire career.

I think you guys are the most credible people to react to babymetal. You actually react to it and not just watch it. Looking forward to more videos from you.

It seems that the majority of the BM community dislikes this video, while liking the song. I admit that I am DISAPPOINTED that the girls aren't featured in this, but it is completely understandable with everything that was going on during the recording of it and what it is- a tribute. They also say it is a meaningless video. A huge component of BABYMETAL is expressive dance, not just dancing, EXPRESSIVE dancing. The hard part about viewing expressive dancing is figuring out what they are trying to convey. This isn't mime, but instead an expression of emotions. You have to be very un-insightful or just hard hearted to watch this video and not understand the emotions being conveyed. We even have English lyrics for the truly hard-headed. My first watch of this video brought a tear to my eye, since I too feel the desolation and emotional pain of losing Mikio (and Yui, though I'm not sure this is a tribute to Yui also). BABYMETAL is an artistic group. This is an extremely artistic video. Art isn't always easily understandable, nor does it always mean the same thing to the experiencer as to the creator, but this one is pretty obvious. All of that said- Damn, do I wish the girls were in this video!

Hi, Hedgy & Paz, good to see you back with a new BABYMETAL reaction! Thank you! I hope you'll do more BABYMETAL together. Did you, Hedgy, already react to all songs? (I could check but I don't know whether you re-uploaded all of your BABYMETAL reactions.) There are also a couple of new songs that they played on the last tour but haven't released as singles and a new intro song they played from Legend-S (Dec. 2017): "Tattoo", "Elevator Girl" and "In The Name Of". I agree, BABYMETAL works best as a trio. And I believe that they've come to realize that as well. For the last leg of last year's tour - the Australian gigs - they performed as a trio again, with Saya Hirai - who was previously one of the backup dancers during the Japan and Singapore shows - as a third member. She had different make-up though, to set her apart from Su and Moa and no official statement has been made about her. There seemed to be great chemistry between the girls and she did a great job performing with them, though. Overall, the BABYMETAL community was really happy seeing them back as a trio again. It just works so much better! There's a much better dynamic and balance between Su and 'the girls' and between the girls and the band. Whether they actually will continue like this and whether Saya will be the third (official) member, only time will tell. And, as always, "Only The Fox God Knows". ;-) All signs are there, however, that BABYMETAL themselves are ready to move on and start a new era, with references to "dawn", "odyssey", "a new beginning", etc., since the announcement about Yui's departure was made. Personally, I am as well and I think that BABYMETAL is going to come back stronger than ever in 2019! Thanks again for your reaction and discussion, guys! Kitsune up!

I don't know if Su wants to or not, but I wish her and the group would be a little more open to communicating with the audience. Sometimes it feels too packaged like watching a play. They are great in those moments when they off script. Now that they older I wish management would encourage them to be themselves a little more on stage.

A gentle correction , while you have mastered the 2 letters of Su's name , the next step is to overcome the 3 of Moa's - its Mo-a not Mau ( as per that Chairman guy) :)Good review as usual , you always have a lot more interesting commentary than the other reactors

It's been pointed out that this was published on the anniversary of the death of Mikio. The timing of this upload is a coincidence, the video was made over a week ago and then Junichi translated it. I just uploaded it when it was done. I would have waited if I'd realised.

Didn't like Starlight much on first mention, but it really has grown on me. Hard to listen to without missing Mikio.

I would tend to lean towards calling them more "evolved" in sound than more "mature" myself...Loved the reaction. Again you are so forthright and honest about your impressions and observations. Thanks again for yet another great BABYMETAL reaction.

I think one of the reasons it sounds more mature is you have Moa providing harmony, Yui is not on the track. Moa is 19 by the way. This song is about 60/40 Japanese/English by the way Saya is pretty good, the Australian shows had just 3 girls, and Saya wore a mic and sung, so she is more than a dancer. She has been well accepted by the community and it is hopeful she will be permanent. An album this year seems likely, their New Years Day tweet looked like an album cover, they have now 5 songs which are new and not on an album. Revolver Magazine said they would have an album out this year. Metal Hammer is expecting it but not sure. So it seems likely Su must be more mature. She toured the world again, Mikio passed, Yui left, and her sister came down with bi-polar disorder. Tough year. About the past year, I think that with Yui out, sadly, that burden is over and they can move forward. I am optimistic Good job

The view with the recent videos is that they were not sure if Yui would return so therefore none of the videos have Su & Moa featured in them. As you speculated, Saya joining iBabyMetal is not confirmed. Total guess with regards to a new CD but it makes sense to hold off with a new release until it's decided if there will be two or three vocalists. For me, the new songs pale, compared to earlier material. Starlight is the best of the bunch but as Pazz says, it could be longer. The new songs are good live but I wonder if they are trying for a radio friendly length? Lets hope the new CD has some epic songs of longer length. Thank you for your thoughts and opinions.

The music is evolving ,mature as you say , the shows are still very Kawaii with the choreography , their outfits are different because they are showing the dark side now ( I liked the US and Europe tour outfits) not sure about the hairdo's on the later shows this year.

Starlight is definitely the best of the new songs so far. Imo

The other new songs Distortion , Elevator Girl and Tattoo are great songs too along with Starlight . The Babymetal quality is still there. As far as singing in English , Koba says if it sounds good we will release it, if not we stay singing in Japanese

I had been a BABYMETAL fan since 2016. But after so many troubles about this band and the changing style, I found the other band called BANDMAID. The song title Thrill is so cool. React please! And please translate this reaction, Mr. Junichi, Only this one. You will like it.

I think the 2 new songs have lost a lot of the charm of previous songs. I get they have to grow up and can’t be singing songs like gimme chocolate for ever, but songs like a Karate and Road of a Resistance were more mature but still had charm. I can’t see 50000 fans singing along to this. I think this IS revolution rather than evolution. Metal Resistance was an evolution but I think this is a step too far.

I'll be honest I saw Babymetal and assumed I'd have to faff with the synchronising thing again and nearly didn't bother I think the 3 singers with two of them as backing sounds better but only in the sense that they were younger, now they're getting older it isn't necessarily going to be the same and maybe a more mature sound
