Vonnegut actually agreeing to do this cameo is absolutely on-brand for his sense of humor. I love it! It's only two sentences, but he absolutely steals the scene (and you certainly remember it). Fun Fact: This was based on a real incident where Vonnegut helped his nephew write a paper on one of his books; the boy ended up getting a "D." :p So it goes!

Growing up on this movie is the reason I started reading Vonnegut when I got a little older. I was like, well he was cool enough to be in Back To School so I doubt his books are boring and stuffy so I'll give him a shot. I started with Slaughterhouse 5 and it was amazing so I read more. But if it weren't for this movie I wouldn't have known him from any other author and might not have even given his books a second glance.

He should have gotten Vonnegut to visit the class. There's a story that Isaac Asimov told that's a bit similar where he was visiting a friend at a university and found out there was lecture about his books going on that day. He decided to sneak into the lecture and naturally the teacher was getting all sorts of things wrong up to the point where Asimov had enough, announced himself and set things straight in front of the class.

I love when Ms. Kellerman, after learning that Thorton hired others to do his work for him, tells Thorton over the paper he had Vonnegut write "whoever wrote this paper..doesn't know the first thing about Vonnegut" I've wondered if that means that either Ms. Kellerman herself still doesn't know everything about Vonnegut, or that Vonnegut himself didn't write about his real works in Thorton's paper.

Really, Kurt Vonnegut making a cameo… so good. It makes me want to go back to school…. See the strings… cats cradle…. It’s fun y’all. It’s amazing how decent and effective interest based learning… can uplfit. The science of positive reinforcement and neurodiversity… lots of ripples so to speak.

Yeah, if Kurt himself wrote the paper wrong according to Diane, then Diane has gained inaccurate info on Kurt. If she got the info she knows out of books, then it's the author of the books who got inaccurate info on Kurt. One other possibility is that Kurt deliberately wrote down incorrect info about himself on the report Thorton turned in, except, why would he do that? Maybe because he wanted to teach Thornton a lesson on that it's wrong to get someone else to do your schoolwork for you? That idea's a bit far fetched, but it's possible
