Clerks 2 was disturbingly brilliant. It really drags you into the film with it's in depth conversations, and kind of like a disgusting train wreck of events, you Can't look away, and now you're part of it, but at the end of the day everyone's Heart is in the right place.

Mike Fu donkey show.
@flashfire201robloxlegosand87 жыл бұрын
Mike Fu There is more heart in Clerks 2 than in anything else Smith has ever done. I wasn't aware of the (almost) fallout between Kevin and Mosher when I saw it for the first time, but you could tell how personal it was from the first scene. Chasing Amy had a big heart and showed Smith's sentimental side off, but Clerks 2 was his heart. Knowing what was happening in his life now, you can dissect every scene in it and pick out what in his life makes him happy, scared, melancholy and insecure. The emotion invoked by the film is real and almost impossible to replicate on that level out of any normal script. I think that Kevin's personal story is what makes his films great. Watching Clerks, you can feel how hungry he was. With Mallrats you can see complacency and studio interference. Chasing Amy brought the hunger back and showed off what he had learned since Clerks. Dogma showed that he was in the groove and felt unstoppable. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was a celebration and looked like a hell of a lot of fun. Then Clerks 2 was a VERY bittersweet goodbye tie a decade and a half of life lessons, friendships and the personification of a dream come true. The end was beautiful but you could sense fear a little bit; uncertainty. Its kind of chilling.

I never really put together how dark the ending to this movie was. It kind of seems to be framing a "happily ever after" ending but it transforms into a dark twisted "same old ever after",with a sense of existential dread. It basically ends the same as the graduate. The heroes get exactly what they wanted and the world is theirs, but the movie hangs on the extra second just to fill the audience with a sense of unease. It's beautiful really.

Even if you don't like most of his films you got to admire Kevin Smith as he's someone who knows his strengths and weaknesses and plays to his loyal audience who stick by him. Also one of the best directors for loading up his DVDs/Blu Rays with ton of extras and great documentaries like this that in some cases are better then the feature films themselves (also the one that was done for Clerks is well worth watching too). I like Clerks 2, certainly isn't as groundbreaking as the first film but it has it's own charms. I think the original cast of Jeff Anderson and Brian O'Halloran aren't the greatest actors ever but you can tell they are having fun with it, especially Anderson who seemed to have a real love hate it relationship with Clerks. I think Rosario Dawson adds a bit of backbone to the film, and you totally believe her character would fall in love with Dante. For it's weaknesses, it doesn't quite have that low key charm of the original which is one of that films qualities, that dance sequence is awful and takes me out of the film, none of the new characters are as memorable as the original cast. But besides that it's a fun little movie and a good follow up. Great documentary to watch to see how hard and tough it is to get a film off the ground.
