I never understand why any listener is ‘waiting’ for vocal acrobatics. His voice is beautiful from the moment he opens his mouth. I love his simple songs as much as the dramatic ones. The story here wasn’t about kazaks being nomads, it was about young men being forced to go to war in another country, leaving their beloved homeland and worrying how their aged parents woujd manage without them, wondering if they will see them again,

Sometimes less is more. In my opinion this is not a song that requires vocal acrobatics. It is beautiful in its simplicity. ❤

He didn't write it. It's a traditional Kazakh folk song about this: > On 25 June 1916 ... Tsar Nicholas II adopted a draft of conscripting Central Asian men from the age of 19 to 43 into labor battalions for the service in the ongoing in support of the ongoing Brusilov Offensive. Thus began a forced march to death for a huge number of Kazakh males.

We're always telling people not to expect the vocal acrobatics in every song as Dimash only does what the song calls for and he usually doesn't feel that the stories he tells in Kazakh are appropriate for a crazy range of notes. They're more powerful and so he goes for using the emotion and power of his voice.

It's an old Kazakh song based on the Russian forced inscription of young men from Kazakhstan to come fight for the Tzar.

That song runs through his veins. Olzhas Qurmanbek made the Kobyz (That violin/tchello like) sound almost crying because is a sad, melancholic though angry song complaining for when their country got virtually empty of young men when the russian Tzar ordered first that the horses and later thar Kazakhstani men from 19 to 39 should be enlisted forcefuly as soldiers and then driven like animals to fight, walking thousands of miles leaving old parents and children behind in a harsh land. From unknoun composer, lyrics gives a clue about his origin: Samal tau; North of Kazakhstan; and a clue about his age: “born in the year of the cow” 1888. The author would be 28 y.o. when the first W.W began. A song that could not be sung in the times when Kazajhstan was part of the Soviet Union Dimash taked it back to big international stages.
