Barry Windham discusses why he left WWF months after debuting his new Widow Maker character. Stream New Shoot Interviews 📺 TitleMatchNetwork.com
WWE Hall of Famer Barry Windham talks about his return to the World Wrestling Federation in 1989. Barry called and signed with his old boss Vince McMahon after disagreements with Jim Herd and money discrepancies led to Windham's departure from World Championship Wrestling.
Find out what happened with Barry's father and brother (Blackjack Mulligan & Kendall Windham) which caused his sudden departure. Barry would vanish from WWF TV until returning years later in 1996. He would wrestle in Japan and back at WCW before being rebranded in WWF as "The Stalker".
Originally produced by RF Video Inc in 2002. Licensed for distribution on Title Match Network.

Shame he wouldn’t go to the gym… he was big, big boned, had very little muscle which wasn’t what the wwf was selling at the time, the fans just were not buying it…. Otherwise he’d have gotten whatever deal had to be done to keep him.. It’s the reality of wrestling, if your worth money to a promotion they will keep you.

It's unfortunate when a wrestlers hits his prime during a down period in wrestling. Before his knee injury, Barry was the best pro wrestler in America. When he was WCW/NWA champion he had that best in the world swagger and great matches. The Widowmaker Barry Windham was perfect and he would have had great programs with Hogan, Savage, etc. When they shortened it to just The Widowmaker it didn’t work, IMO. He was too big a name at that time to just drop it and it looked like another instance of Vince trying to erase history. Unfortunately real life got in the way so it was t going to happen anyway but I was so stoked for the possibilities when he came back.

Barry was a hell of a Wrestler. I think his "look" is some what prohibited him from rocking to stardom to the level I believe he should of been. Big muscle bound wrestlers started to really become the trend. A hell of a wrestler. Watch him wrestle Flair multiple times for 30 minutes, 45 minutes, even hour matches. He threw the best Lariat I've ever seen. Doesn't hurt his opponents, executes perfectly, just a great wrestler and sound in every way. Sort of like Curt Henning. He was a hell of wrestler too and Athlete.

I remember him somewhere between 85-89 as a kid and always thought he was the coolest looking wrestler with his boots and he was a big dude that could fly when he was trim. He was one of my favorites, in southern Indiana we mostly followed TBS NWA/WCW and Memphis, WWF on weekends sometimes but it was boring. Then he disappeared it seemed like and I saw him a little in the early 90’s in WWF I think but I stopped until around 95 or 96. I always thought he was the one of the guys that would be a big star. Thank God for podcasts or I never would have known what happened to him and know how many other people appreciated what he did even if it didn’t last long (that’s what she said 😂).

That was Flair's fault and Barry was pissed at him too.

Wasn't exactly an earth shattering gimmick. NWA Barry was the best.

Windham was just an average wrestler from the South who was doing well in WCW. He's not champion material because he had an average body, couldn't entertain the fans, couldn't get two sentences together on the microphone and was just plain boring. Vince gave him a chance because he gave anyone who was 2 meters tall a chance, but it didn't work for him because he was just boring. As an extension of groups like the Horseman he was ok, but he really has no place in a Hall of Fame.

I think Barry had great talent and had awesome in ring look. His problem was mediocre promo skills and mid range charisma in an era when that was what sold tickets. He didn't provoke the emotions that drew crowds, and I'm a fan. Just my opinion.
