I debuted the new BaseBar portable pull up bar from BaseBlocks in my last video and got several questions about it and requests for a review video, so... here you go! This is my full BaseBar review; all the pros, cons and neutral comments I have about it. No holds barred! (sorry for the pun)
The BaseBar is a freestanding portable pull up bar that's heigh-adjustable to two different heights: 33" (84 cm) and 50" (127 cm). It's quite large, sturdy and has fat bars for developing crazy grip strength. You can use it for training rows, pull ups, chin ups and levers - pretty much all your pull training in one simple yet amazing piece of equipment.
The portability factor is especially fun for working out in different places and its handy for anyone who does a lot of traveling on the road or going between places (like driving to your summer home, for example). It collapses down into 3 pieces and can fit easily into a car trunk.
In the video I demonstrate a few exercises, talk about all the pros and cons of the BaseBar and share who I think will benefit most from having this piece of equipment in their home. Overall, I'm beyond satisfied with the BaseBar, and I think it's the best piece of equipment so far from BaseBlocks.

I gave up on the Basebar... too expensive and it's still not available to dispatch to the U.K I went for Scaffolding pipes and mounted the thing myself.. and all for £50 (60$ roughly) You can choose the thickness of the bar and opt for a spray painting. Also with an allen key dismount it in 30 seconds. Not shitting on your review man, it's great, I love what you do. But when you can have something customized by you, half of the price, wow baby, count me in, I wish Id found this scaffolding company before :) Anyway, Great Job Buddy. Wanna see that front lever on that bar :))

It could be even better with a third adjustment level in the middle. That is my main, minor knock. Still, it seems useful and something that will be used long-term. One unmentioned positive is that you can use it as a massage apparatus-set it up by your bed, roll out your calves on it, feels really nice. Also sitting your hamstrings, really gets in there and loosens things up.

Excellent review that was NOT a shill. I was wondering if a routine on dis-assembling the device can be added. Very often on things like this dis-assembling is a royal pain because over time the parts tend to "stick" . Too bad as one reviewer said , that the thing goes up to only about 5 feet. Maybe by having a triangular base the height can be increased so as to use the device as a "normal" pull-up bar. Thanks for the review.

I got this and his review is accurate. However, as a woman with small hands, I underestimated how much the thickness of the bar would be a detriment. It is far thinker and rougher than other pull-up bars. Gloves are needed for use or your palms will be torn up.

QUESTION: Does body height matter? Because I'm 6' and have long legs and when I do the 90 degree leg raise and pull myself up my legs are too heavy and my back curls and I injure my back BUT watching your vid I want to try leaving my heels on the ground until I built more strength and maybe I'll be able to have more control.

This month, I will warn you the summer is incoming. Transitioning to say the COVID19 can be transmitted on the object as well. But I have a plan since social distancing will be regulated that it will be a good time to work on my bodyweight rows. Progressing to doing pull ups and sheding off calories. I thought I might use anything to work on my pull exercises. Since I don't want to use a bicycle tubbing to use my body weight to an advantage. Any ideas on how should I work on my pull exercises maintaining to shed off calories?

Over priced for what it does. Get a chin/dip tower. Cost less. Does more. I recommend the Stamina 1690. It's running at $135 on amazon rate now. The prices fluctuate. I got mine for under $90 w/ shipping included a few years back. Amazon and sears got in a bidding war going into Christmas. The price kept coming down. This unit allows one to do everything that can be done on a base bar and trainer for less then the cost of one (except for maybe handstands?). There were a couple other units that looked pretty good. One was the Swiusd Power Tower Pull-up/Dip Station. $99.99 shipping included. If you get one. I recommend one like the Stamina 1690 w/ no back pad or bar in the way so you can hold an L-sit position when on the pull-up and dip bars. Also, I prefer a design w/ pull-up bar on one side and dip handles on the other, but not 100% necessary.

Nice video, review and equipment. But it is simply too short. A simple 50cm extension and 2 or 4 more granade pins would solve this problem.

Intersting. I wish it could go a bit higher. Obvious, the higher , the more unstable it would be and the manufacturer does not want to be sued if accidents happen due to poor design in terms of stability but It is in fact perfectly possible to do good form muscle ups without producing any wobble if no kipping and if this was a bit higher i would buy it for this purpose. I already have a pull up bar with the opposite fault , it is too high and I canT do muscle ups ( a most excellent exercise) on it at home because not enough clearance between the bar and the ceiling. Hard to find a pull up station for home use with the right height!

Having owned similar bars, DON'T buy them, they are awkward for both dips and pullup. (You cannot do regular pullups due to their low height) Gym rings are much better, portable, and cheaper.

It's not awkward, it's a lack of core strength. The advantage of this is no mounting. So if you are in an apt or condo and have nowhere you can or are allowed to mount rings this is a viable option.

I don't see why not as long as you're driving and not flying. You couldn't fly with it, but you could fit it in the bottom of your car trunk and bring it to the hotel.

just ordered mine, and I'm seeing alot of peopling dogging on it but honestly I've yet to find a 100% better alternative. Power towers? too tall, not mobile enough, can be more expensive, mostly sold out. Gymnastics bars? surprisingly more expensive, and all the ones on amazon are marketed for kids while claiming to have adult weight capacities. DIY? I priced it at my local hardware store at least and it came out $10 cheaper but would require more assembly and tools I don't have (which getting would be nice but also adds to the cost), but with the 10% discount the base bar is actually cheaper. All in all not too bad Edit: I will say the absolute best option would be to have a pull up bar properly mounted to a wall. It's cheaper especially if you went DIY, and and can do far more things. This still has the advantage of being portable though

Jeff G You can go to Lowe's or Home Depot and make it yourself with PVC or Metal Galvanized Pipe and it's cheaper plus you can customize it.

What are the best parallel dip bars you've used ? I'd like some taller ones like this portable pullup bar since I'm 186cm tall so I'd most likely touch the ground every rep on dips and wouldn't be able to do weighted dips since the weights would deff touch the ground. Too bad they only sell them individually and they're already pretty damn expensive. Thanks

DAGAMAN BaseBlocks actually have the B-Bars now which are essentially two interconnected BaseBars that are width and height adjustable. Those are my favorite parallel bars, for sure. Very sturdy and versatile. The bars are at 132 cm on the high setting according to their site. That should be plenty high for you: www.baseblocks.fit/pages/b-bars

Planche is one of most advanced moves if you are beginner you should first focus on basics then do some of the easier skills if you want like muscle up.

How do pullups on the basebar compare to more traditional pullups? It looks like a cool product but I am skeptical of this...

Dr. T you are in hip flexion to keep your feet off the floor, so you do L-sit (or tucked L-sit) pull ups and chin ups. It also makes you keep strict form because you don't want to kip on it. But you can do wide, standard and close grip, pronated or supinated, just like any other pull up bar.

Seems quite expensive for what it is. 149 USD is 120 GBP (although it is discounted now). I got a great normal pull up bar, with more adjustments, and dipping handles/push up handles for the same price and it's quite a bit more material.
