Valens actually tried to assassinate the Gothic leaders prior to the battle, which was why Fritigern attacked the city of Adrianople, and that was what provoked Valens' attack on the Gothic camp.

No wonder why they beat the crap out of us, you can only make so many mistakes prior to and during the first engagement. They could have learned a thing or two from Caesar.

undisciplined troops, bad ground to fight from, essentially hidden cavalry in massive numbers. what a terrible set of circumstances. he shoulda just left the battlefield

nice animations, but unfortunately many errors and inaccurency. The Goths tried to assassinate Valens? Where did you got that from? They asked his permission to cross the Danube into roman territory and he more than willingly agreed.

I agree. I think 15 to 25 thousand on each side make more sense. Maybe 10 to 20 per cent cavalry for each army.

50,000 cavalry? What?! remove one of those zeros and you have a deal.

It absolutely drives me insane when I see these videos produced about historical events, which are narrated in such a way as to sound as though the creator and/or narrator are educated and we'll versed in the subject matter; only to hear said narrator repeatedly mispronouncing key terms which are synonymous with the subject matter. I see it over and over in many different channels dealing with historical subjects, especially military history. As a avid, armature historian, and lover of all things history related, I find it unfathomable, that someone who obviously has enough interest in a historical event to want to create media explaining said event, would then obviously not even take the time to make sure they are pronouncing key terms related to the topic, such as abbreviations, the names of individuals involved and even the locations themselves (especially the names of battles taking place in the near and Far East) correctly. For those who love history and will still watch content, even though we may already be well versed in the subject, it is very disappointing to hear this happen so often by so many people. I apologize for the long post.

I also apologize for the mistakes in spelling. I did not realize while typing my post, that the keyboard on my phone had decided to replace my words with words that are spelled similarly.. The wonders of technology.

Sure would like to know examples. I too hate it when words/names aren’t pronounced correctly, but have NO idea what you are referring to.
