The campaign needed to be way longer, the new characters needed to be more fleshed out and develop relationships properly, and they needed better motivation for joining the rebellion. And they needed to put more space battles in it.

CookieAlas There's the old TIE fighter and X-Wing games along with Rogue Squadron. Star Wars: Starfighter and Star Wars: Battle for Naboo were both vehicle-centered games that took place during TPM and both were really good. I would argue that SWBFN was almost like a sequel to Roque Squadron in many aspects such as gameplay and graphics but there were some interesting improvements too. I'm not too familiar with Starfighter but it does have better graphics and control and there is a lot of large scale battles.

I think squadrons is the best piloting game in the franchise. Most Star Wars piloting games are like “hey, you can target enemies with left trigger and shoot with right trigger” but squadrons gives you full control of the ship.

Please play battlefront 2. The good one, not this EA trash. It has a really good campaign, and you don't ever join the rebels.

The channel Spacedock has a theory that some executive had the development team change the story while it was in production because they didn't think people would like a whole game with a story from the Imperial side. "What?! The main characters are baddies?! But it's Star Wars, the good guys are suppose to win, change it."

Because writing a game with enough nuance and complexity to successfully pull off being the bad guys, without it being cheesy evil or mustache-twirling evil is hard. And EA was in no way going to spend money and pay it's staff to risk something that they couldn't just base off the focus tests they cling to.

Not really. Some people dislike the campaign because their expectations were too damn high (oh no, the AI is bad and it’s short. Just like EVERY OTHER FPS CAMPAIGN). The multiplayer is really good, though.

Play a good singleplayer FPS then. Republic Commando might be a good start. Doom 2016 is another. Just because DICE campaigns are all shit doesn't mean that it is any less unacceptable.

Which somehow was even worse than Battlefront II... I played it for about half an hour when it was a FREE PS Plus game and even then I just quit; the controls were just AWFUL. The very few, very brief space battle segments in Battlefront II's campaign were honestly the only part of the whole game where I honestly felt like I was having fun because it controlled pretty well, so much so that I often delayed going to the next objective just so I could fly around and keep shooting a few more fighters 🤣

I remember the good old days of the EU where the Empire wasn't just "lol evil nazis" and actually had depth and had done a lot of good for the galaxy.. but Disney can't have that, they gotta be 100% cartoonish bad guys.

And the only person we see from the empire who turns good just so happens to be a black guy. Or, in another movie, a guy with an ethnicity I can't readily pinpoint. Or, in EA BF2, a woman. They're going out of their way to politicize this, and there's a disturbing number of vocal people who can't seem to see it.

Give it another twenty years. X-Wing and Tie Fighter are still the best Star Wars games I have ever played. You really get the feel of flying different types of star fighters. X-Wings, Y-Wings, A-Wings, B-Wings, Tie fighters, Tie Interceptors, Tie Bombers, Tie Advanced and Tie Defenders.....all these ships feel different when you fly them....and your tactics change accordingly. The game is so beautifully designed and difficult to master, but totally worth it. It's not as fast paced as modern games, but if it was made with todays tech, I'm sure that it would be incredible.

The Thought Criminal since those game are focused on flight they are still amazing as all the attention went to it although they are still good the flight in here isn't bad either compared but for sure I love the tie defender from those
