Uncharacteristically terrible marketing from Disney. They really should have put the first trailer before Last Jedi. I went in with two expectations: It was gonna take about a half hour for Han to really start feeling like Han, and that overall it was going to be pretty mediocre. And both of those were completely shattered. From the moment Han started speaking I had a huge smile across my face because, damn it, somehow, that was just *Han*. And much like with TFA, I had a big stupid grin across my face for most of the movie. Also, with pretty much EVERY film since Disney took over, maybe even since 99, there's been this weird behind-the-scenes element you can feel in almost every scene that takes me out of the experience a little bit, either because of the creature design or the blocking or the references, there's always something that feels like it's designed specifically TO BE a Star Wars movie; it feels designed and curated in such a way to expand the universe and create toys and to set up tie-in novels. But I didn't feel that with Solo. It was the first film in a very, very long time that... actually felt like it took place in the Star Wars universe. It was surprisingly genuine and grounded and I loved almost everyone in it. Weirdly, it's one of my favorite Star Wars movies, which I NEVER expected.
@twenty-fifth4204 жыл бұрын
I wouldnt call it my favorite, but I think I speak for the fanbase that in general, Solo was the best movie that didnt star or had any influences from Jedi or Sith. It was far better then Rogue One and it did feel like the Clone Wars show. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

When it comes to the spin-offs, Disney does a good job with them. I love solo and Rogue one because we don't just see main characters, we see some new characters that, unlike others (rebels), actually feel like they factor into the larger universe and move the story forward while opening doors to explore them and there history. Some are sutle while others are great. I loved Donald Glover as Lando, he was defiantly my favourite character in this movie. As you said, the villain is great. And I have to say, these spin-offs are definitely underrated.

It's blockbuster fatigue plain and simple. I don't understand why Disney wanted to stack Last Jedi - Black Panther - Infinity War in quick succession and then also throw Solo in the mix. Even Fox, Sony, Universal and Warner Bros spaced their blockbusters reasonably. I think Star Wars should always be reserved for the holiday window in November/December like the last 3 were.

@Muustopher6 жыл бұрын
How then do you explain people seeing most marvel movies without any issues? They're almost 20 movies in and no one's claiming any level of fatigue. Star wars is 4 movies in and suddenly there's fatigue. How does that work exactly? People pay for movies they want to see. If a previous movie puts them off, they're less willing to pay to see another. I wouldn't go to a restaurant again that served me food I didn't like and movies are exactly the same. They're products. People pay for products they like.

I liked Solo, it's a good Heist movie, to show the adventures of a young Han solo, How he got his DL44, and looked at it amazed was my best part, It fit in so well, and left a door to a possible Obi wan movie, or a sequel. The dark tone, like rogue one, really fits, and shows that there is a western side of the star universe, that's not just, Jedis, siths, and lightsabers, I had a great time watching it. Seeing this makes me want a Star game, to where you can make your own character, and have them be a smuggler, and do heists with your friends

You may enjoy SWTOR, an MMO, but I will say that the smuggler storyline is a relatively small part of the game and you'll really need to be dedicated to the role and not project on the character to get the perfect semi-scumbag smuggler character out of your... character. The vibe is also waaaay different, but themes are similar.

Mr. Yoyo honestly that's one of the criticisms that most surprises me in retrospect having just watched it. Like people kept calling her an "SJW Droid", then I see the movie and it's just like "Sentient beings are mind-controlled and enslaved this is wrong" and all I can think is "well yeah"

I don’t understand how freeing your own kind makes you an SJW or a bad character. By this logic, Captain Rex, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi, Han Solo, Finn, , Anakin Skywalker, Ashoka Tanp, Captain Rex’s Legion, Commander Cody’s legion, and pretty much all main characters in Star Wars are SJWs.

I find it funny how people are screeching about how Disney is trying to push an SJW message, but they really aren’t. If they were trying to push the message, they would have other characters take L3 seriously. Other characters do not take L3 seriously. She’s just a character with some strong and outspoken opinions! I wonder how people would react if there was somebody in a Star Wars movie very loudly voicing their support of gun ownership.

The Last Jedi kind of ruined my mood regarding anything to do with the franchise, and while I'll always go back to the Original Trilogy, the Clone Wars cartoon, and the KOTOR games...I'm kinda just done with the movies.
