@@SvenVanDerPlank you really do. Your videos make it so easy to explain the battletech universe and history to them. Between your videos on lore, black pants legion and grim dark narrator for the mech breakdowns they know almost as much as I do and I had to read the source books and novels to get my knowledge lol

What I appreciate the most about this series is the fact that it handles an era that no other channels has really spoken about much. There's a ton of videos on the Fall of the Star League and the Clan Invasion, but it's hard to find stuff on the Succession Wars. Keep it up!
@SvenVanDerPlank

Yeah, it's an often overlooked part of the setting's history. I think it's because the 1st&2ndSW only explain the situation in 3025 but nothing really changes in the status quo so there's not much need to explain. Once the story starts progressing to 3050, those conflicts become largely irrelevant. The Inner Sphere is influenced by the 4thSW above all else, while the Clans draw from Star League history.

The cold, scrolling icons representing thousands of dead is such a brilliant and chilling intro. Holy crap its so grim and somber as the seemingly impersonal and endless procession of dead pass on by. Incredibly well done! Congrats on crossing the finish line!

I almost chickened out on using War at one point. I thought it was a bit too jarring given the sombre tone of the series overall. But my heart said it had to be. There'll never be a better place to use that song anyway.

I started as a gamer playing battletech back in 1983 in second grade. I've found myself now starting a campaign again starting in 3026. This is now my link for history reference so all my players know just how deep the lore is as they enter the game. Fine, it is silly, big, stompy robots, but it really did have such an extensive set of writing to establish the setting. To you Sven, insanely good job. Feel proud as hell on what you've accomplished. I would say this was an impossible project, but you made it work. Thank you.

An excellent series with the First Succession War, Sven. Very somber, and well done. There were moments where you could feel one faction was teetering under the hammer blows of another faction, but endured to carry the fight on, but such an expensive butcher's bill to pay... It is a shame that you won't be doing the concurrent series for SLDF-In-Exile, to the birthing of the Clans, but hopefully one day in the future, you will consider putting forth a series on that, as well as the Wars of Reaving. There is so much meme content about this portion of BattleTech, and I find myself hungering for the more in depth, more intellectual banquet that you would offer with your videos. You are appreciated for your amazing work, Sven.

And so concludes another grandiose series by yourself Sven. Can’t wait to see the Second Succession War and especially the Fourth Succession War (what can I say, us Davions enjoy a good Capellan stomp) - also as a response to the idea that us Davions need writers help, I *pishaw* at you and instead remind you that bloody terrible warfare against the dracs has a way of invigorating and breeding one hell of a military corps (look at the Lyrans after getting punched by the dracs a few times). Also, for a new set of series outside of Battletech, can’t wait to see what you’ll get doing *crossed fingers it’s halo lore* And finally overall, congratulations again on another outstanding project and enjoy the holiday season mate, you deserve a well earned rest after this one. Ps. Also if you ever need some proper Scottish voice acting, just give a poke or nip up across the boarder, I’d be happy to lend some talent 😝

Sven just continues to up his game. While some of the other "non Tex" level BT content creators have fallen off as they try to do more and more, Sven just keeps pumping out high quality lore content in the best way possible. Its basically "Tex & Sven" in the top tier of Battletech lore content, and that includes what Catalyst is pumping out. If you want to learn about Battletech, those are the top pair to watch. (I'd also recommend MechFrog & CritRocket for short-form individual mechs/vehicle content) Well done Sven- I've been listening since the early days, and I've got to say your work just keeps rising to the occasion. Ok that is actually a really interesting factoid about the worlds ruined and their causes. I mean, it's common knowledge both Meta and in-setting that a large number of colonies were destroyed/ruined in the First Succession war but if you asked most players or in-game characters what the exact causes were most people would say most of them just got nuked or otherwise destroyed through WMDs.

This was an amazing experience watching these videos. I'm super excited to see the Second Succession War series! If I may offer some compliments and critiques here and there, I would like to make a few suggestions going forward. To start, I love the graphics you use for the maps and how you use distinct icons representing the various groups as they move from system to system. It makes it easy to see who's going where and what they're doing or who they're fighting. However, I have issues with the maps being rotated so that the borders between realms appear horizontally on the screen instead of vertically, most notably when showing the conflict between Steiner and Kurita. It makes it difficult to read system names and get a good bearing on where the action is occurring. I would suggest just leaving the maps oriented the way they are by default and not rotating them at all. Other than that, I love every other aspect of your videos. The narration is excellent, the music is spot-on, and as others have already pointed out, the gradual increase in scrolling icons representing the dead at the beginning of each video really hits home just how many unfortunate souls where lost at each stage of the conflict. Truly shows just how costly these wars were in lives in a grim fashion. Thanks for the awesome videos and stay safe out there!

I feel you on that one. I didn't want a dragged out ending though where we review in minutia all the loses. However, good news is that the video you're asking for is exactly what I'm doing for the start of the 2ndSW. There we'll look in detail at the losses between 2786-2821 and the rebuilding process up to 2830.

That is an excellent video but I couldn't do it justice. I'm lacking (a) the granularity to the numbers to make it possible, and (b) the talent needed to animate it.

I think one of the important aspects of BattleTech is that, in addition to the loss of lives, technology, and even planets, is the loss of history. With the universe burning around them, few people had the ability to preserve history, be it in the form of books, databases, or universities. There are huge gaps in what we know of the Inner Sphere history, and all kinds of contradictions in what's left. I think it adds to the character of the universe, and it leaves plenty of room for more "rediscovery" of "old records" (i.e. technical readouts).

So you mention at the end of the video that you're considering looking into a separate IP to cover the history of, and I've got a suggestion that might be something of a non sequitur: D&D's Greyhawk, and the many, many events that have occurred on Oerth over the decades. Er, well.. up until it was quasi-abandoned by Wizards, anyway. Might be worth a look? Fantasy setting would be a hell of a change of pace from BattleTech, for sure. Anyway, whatever you wind up choosing (if anything), I'm sure to stop by to watch and listen. You do good work, man. Keep it up!

I hope you have a good some good Winter Holidays and hopefully you take a small break! As for your break, I would love to see your breakdown on some other beloved series, Do you have any in mind? If you do might be worth asking us Patrons and probably even your community.

Yeah, they're one of my favourites from that era, though I've really only listened to their four big albums, none of their earlier stuff outside of a few songs. I quite like the idea of working a song from a different artist into each finale going forwards.

That bit on the last part. With the "War what is it good for?" Song? *chefs kiss* But war(this war in particular) is kinda good for in-lore gameplays on tabeltop. Hahaha. Can I ask for a specific thing tho? I kinda want a full in-lore dump of the Catapult, from the conception, to the ending of the line(I think they made the mrm30 version last). None of the content creators here have made longers versions of my favorite mech, sadly, It was always superceded by the Battlemaster.

Suggestion: Go back to some of the Technical Readouts like 3025, and build some short episodes out of the combat history vignettes given for each mech/vehicle/aircraft/spacecraft.

I have a couple of ideas but I don't want to say at the moment. I might start writing one and then realise that I either don't know enough or that there isn't enough to talk about. Don't want folks waiting for something that I've given up on. I just know I want to diversify a bit more.
