Oh fuck, holy hell. That opening fucking killed me with the entire screen being filled with the casualty counters ticking up and up and up. Holy fuck. Sven, my man, you have proved earlier that you are a master of evocative visuals and music, but this is just even more proof!

I assume you noticed but with each passing episode I've added another column to the intro. Just a way of visually reflecting the uncountable and ever increasing number of casualties the war had brought about.

@@SvenVanDerPlank I noticed it and that's one of the reasons I was praising you for it, but seeing the entire screen filled up was still an insane punch I didn't realize would punch so hard until it did. Bravo

It’s one of the things people seem to forget with battletech when people consider the succession wars. Mankind was basically on its last legs, and that flickering light of hope was basically almost extinguished by the time we get to the late 2900’s. There were predictions that fusion engines would going to go extinct by 3050. Let me repeat that. BY 3050, MECH POWERING TECHNOLOGY WOULD BE EXTINCT

That part about Ingelsman...I had to close my eyes. There is something very hard about watching the last remnants of the Star League be slowly wiped off the map like that. God damn the Snakes.

I absolutely adore this series. I love how each successive episode's intro gives a glimpse at the mind numbing body count so far. It just keeps climbing. It's truly chilling. Makes me think back to how you ended one particular episode. "As the Inner Sphere entered December 2787, the first year of the Succession Wars was coming to a close. The brutality on display had shocked all involved. They hoped for a decisive victory. 238 years later, we're still waiting..."

Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you can build a diving board to hit it again, at speed. Meanwhile, let’s all take a moment to appreciate the horror of realizing that Comstar used to owe someone money, and that they never will again.

*Listens to the account of the retaking of Kentares IV and the appointment of Alexander Dresari to the position of Duke of Kentares* *Mechwarrior 4: Vengeance recollection intensifies* Jokes aside, thank you for all your effort and time spent. Take all the time you need to release additional quality content; a delay is understandable and acceptable if it means continuing this trend of great Battletech scholarship.

I am in awe still of the amount of effort put into these lore vids, Sven. Thank you for helping me and others fill in the gaps of understanding we all likely have here and there. For me, everything past the first Exodus is a blank page and I only have what little the games have given for anything past 3049...even the dark age and beyond is little better than a rumor in my head. Now the world of BattleTech is beginning to become clearer and clearer and I'm not sure I like what I see (in a good way, that is). I've only ever really heard from second hand knowledge about the sheer carnage and malaise brought about from the Succession Wars, but never did imagine it at this scale. It's a wonder we don't see entire armies flat out refuse to obey orders or wholesale clusters of IS systems seceding from their parent states. Indeed the intelligence communities must be doing a real number on keeping the scale of destruction from spreading much further than anyone's borders.

While the death toll is truly shocking, the one's using the most WMD's is even more so; the FWL/LC Theatre is seeing the most use. Don't get me wrong, everyone is using them, but those two are bound and determined to nuke each to BEFORE The Stone Age. Also good to see someone realalizing what would happen if all Jump ships got destroyed.

He did alright. Didn't stupidly get himself killed in battle, unlike most of his contemporaries (and his successor). But he was past his prime by this point. The guy who crushed the Capellans in both the Sarna and Andurien commonalities and earned the nickname "Eagle" hadn't really done anything of note for years by this point.

Can anybody think of a real world parallel to preserving the Jumpships like that? Something vital that HAD to be protected by all sides during wartime?
@TheKeyser94
@TheKeyser94 7 ай бұрын
This wars wouldn't be cheap, seeing the amount of money that Comstar toll to use their jumpships, in Battletech the price was twenty thousand, and in Mechwarrior 5 it was fifty thousand, jumping in and out your border of your territory to making an assault on a planet wouldn't be cheap, more if you use dozens of ships. How the periphery territories and the Great Houses keep their economy afloat with this huge amount of money they are spending? No counting in the maintained and repair of the mechs, the salary of the troops, the artillery and the air force.

All jokes aside, given what happened with the second Star League, a charter giving Kurita the first go at First Lord on a rotational basis might(?) have had a better outcome. Assuming he’d have even bothered to sign or uphold the charter. They may have largely hated each other and not yet been galvanised by a shared threat, but they hadn’t kicked off the succession wars yet, so who knows.
