Close to Alabama,The house is listed as being built in 1920 and unfortunately couldn’t find any more information beyond that sadly but my assumption after seeing inside is that the house is much older then 1920! This house is unfortunately in its last days, wish I had gotten to it sooner, house almost took me down with it falling through the floors. Watch me fall through the floor at 11:09 lol
Thanks for watching!!! Hope everyone is having a great 2021! (:

This is really a very rare find because most plantation houses here in Georgia were not “Tara”, most of them were simple farm houses and most all of them are gone. Very few survived Sherman’s men and even less the hands of time. There is an old plantation down the road from me and it’s about the size of your average two story house, and not the “Tara” antebellum style. That was something that surprised me from the time I was a kid and saw Gone With The Wind and then as I fell in love with the history of my home state; I expected them to look like Tara and most simply didn’t. Those were from the very elite and wealthy plantations. Most were what we would consider middle class. I do have one tidbit of GWTW trivia that I got from a descendant of Margaret Mitchell. Tara was based on Margaret’s grandparents plantation in Lovejoy Ga and it was called the Fitzgerald Plantation. It’s been gone way before I came a long but it was interesting because my friend (much older than me) did spend time there before it was gone.

In a perfect holy universe, the deed to these houses and properties should have been legally transferred to the people who created the family's wealth, maintained, cleaned, cooked in this home and worked crops every single day. It would seem only fair after sleeping in substandard slave quarters near this grand house. And some of these working children were actually half siblings of the wealthy children living in decadent luxury.

We could tell by the shot through the front door, showing the gaping holes in the disintegrating floor---and even the old stepladder they'd used to get up and down from the space underneath was too rotten to even give it a firm _glance,_ let alone trust the slightest weight on it! Then, to find _both_ of the large fireplace mirrors still intact amid the rubble... Damn near swallowed my tongue when you put your foot through the floor! This looks exactly like a house I grew up near in Georgia! I think it's the same one. It was passed down throughout the owners family for generations and neglected. If it's the one , in the back left hand side of the yard is an old family cemetery. Graves dating back to 1600s. When I was young, the slave quarters were still there ( about 200 yards from house on the right). I went in them once. There was a longish building with one connected porch and 3 entries. Each had one room and a fireplace. The owner ,at the time, told us that each room was a slaves home and raised their family in that one room. But several years after I walked through the building decayed and fell in. Back was full of apple trees, pear trees and so many more fruit bearing trees and plants. It was never kept well. I always loved the place.

I agree, the house looks older than 1920s. A house like that if it was built in the 1920s would have had electrical and plumbing preinstalled. But in this house it was clearly added later. A house built in the 1920s would have had a heating system installed. But this house just had a fireplace in every room for heat. That was typical for houses built in the 1800s. Plus the style of the house just looks way older than 1920s.

I went through there a few years ago to find it torn down, it broke my heart to see it gone. Yeah it's too bad ya couldn't get topside and I'm surprised it didn't have an alt staircase unless it was in the kitchen and you may have missed it. But those floors were way to dangerous and you almost going through freaked me out a bit but that place is way beyond any kind of saving but it was a great explore just the same. Take care and stay safe my friend.

As a realtor I have seen so many decaying mansions in my day. Sadly if the roof is not maintained... this is the result not to mention the heat in the winter. Rain water will rot the wood and plaster floods the basements crumbles the foundation and then they collapse. Sadly who knows what happened to the owners... maybe a nursing home or died with no one willing to take over the home. I am surprised that this home wasn't vandalized probably because of the distance from other houses or maybe someone has been watching over it. What madness to leave a historic place like this rot? But they are all over the country waiting to be lost to time.

Such a beautiful plantation mansion on the outside, however, the decay inside made it look sad. I really loved what you were able to provide for us. Those fireplaces were amazingly beautiful. Thanks for showing us what you can though. Please be careful. I nearly felt my heart in my throat when you almost fell through. I'm glad you're safe.

Thank you for recording all these homes. The videos are now part of the history of them. You are a historian!!! The front porch and door, the sun room, the pocket doors, the french doors, the fireplaces, the floor to ceiling windows, the china closet in the kitchen, the wood floors, the big rooms....sooooo sad this grand southern lady has been left to rot, but you immortalized her. Please be careful and PLEASE wear a mask...all the mold you face in these houses can leave spores on your lungs! I've seen sooooo many of your videos but I've never seen your face. I don't know about anybody else but I'd love to see what you look like! 😉 Stay safe and again thank you!

@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773 OoooooMyGosh!!!! You are so cute!!!!!! And so young to love all this history! I'm always so impressed by people's knowledge and love of preserving history! You should actually think about compiling pictures and facts about the houses you visit and putting them in book form! What a great coffee table piece that would be!!!

Great old house, but it won’t last much longer. These are all over rural Georgia, some get saved and some don’t. I’m really surprised the shutters are still there. Those are usually the first things stolen from these houses. Next thing stolen is the doors. Looks like all the furnishings were removed and no clothing everywhere. I really appreciate your bravery at going in these old houses. Thanks Kappy for letting me tag again!

Watch your step there, Kappy! We don't want you injuring yourself. This is a beautiful grand house. It looks like it's ready to collapse, but still may be salvageable, even in the terrible condition it's in. Love the multipaned doors, that wonderful large white built-in cabinet in one of the main floor rooms, and those incredible fireplace mantels with the built-in mirrors. Yes, it's too bad the staircase was out to show us the upstairs. Absolutely beautiful!.

My Mom’s house was built in 1920. When Hurricane Charlie hit in 2004, we had a corner of the roof get damaged and it allowed some rain to come in. When we replaced the drywall, we had to get an area around a window frame. The wood was so hard we could barely get through it! It’s got a very special place in my heart, but things are happening bit by bit. No one lives there right now, one room has the ceiling coming down. The floor is weak in some parts, and don’t even ask about the bathroom. There used to be other homes on her street that were built around the same time, but hers is the only one left. Her a$$hole neighbor keeps saying he wants to buy it, just so he can tear it down 😡. I hope and pray someone in the family can fix it up one day.
