Hydroponic farming at home and how to start seeds without soil for hydroponics.
If you live in Australia The Seed Sprouter is available at any Bunnings and Big W
I'm almost certain that it would be available from overseas hardware stores...
If it isn't and you absolutely must have one, the link is below... But its expensive (double the price of in store)
Remember that you can use this method without it.
Here it is anyway:

Hoochos explores the worlds of Hydroponics, Aquaponics, Permaculture, Homesteading, Fermentation, Technology Vanlife and DIY Builds to look at the world through a larger lens that can incorporate the best of everything into a rich and rewarding lifestyle.
Through self sufficiency we can reduce consumption and increase our hyperlocal household production.

wonderful! You did this video 2 years ago and its right on the mark for what I need today! I love the way you are, Hoocho, I forget things all the time, get distracted, one project or 20 and I lose one... somewhere. So I'm afraid I'm a bit glad that you are not perfect, folks need to know that plans can be adjusted and a few circular roots left a bit long is still manageable! You give me room to breath knowing I may get parts wrong but it'll still be okay. And hey, those perfect videos always make me suspicious, cause I know they're hiding their wrong turns... 😇🥰

Seriously you are my hero. I've been experimenting with so many ways to germinate since Rockwool was sold out during COVID. But, I was already seeking other methods as the rockwool gets algae easily and that is a huge downer. Keep innovating. Didn't have access to foam mats or bins during lockdown so got styrofoam creative based on your ideas. Thanks again

i started using turface/ perlite(sold as natural clay oil spill clean up) in my ebb and flow pots. figured it works for my bonsai why not my other(hydroponic) plants. less then pennys per pot. vermiculite is a good idea too. i used it when i fisrt started making glass too. it holds the heat so the glass (pyrex/boro) cools slower. anealing it like a kiln almost.. happy hydroponicing hoocho

For the larger seeds I germinate in pumice stone straight into net cup. To improve plant vigour use trichoderma , a plant root symbiotic fungi.

I found sprouting trays similar to the ones you have. They are on Amazon for USA customers. Look for WhooperIndia Plastic Hygienic Sprout Maker. I haven’t tried them yet so I am not sure how well they work. They are a translucent and not clear and a bonus they do have a lid. One question though: Do the trays drain completely? It seems as though some water will stay in the tray.

Hey Hoocho. This subject is really the last piece of the puzzle for me. Thanks for the info. I have tried just putting a cutting into straight Perlite in a pot and watering/feeding every few days. I keep getting symptoms of over watering and deficiencies. Do you think this is the low cation exchange or low oxygen exchange?
@Hoocho
@Hoocho 4 жыл бұрын
I’d use the 50/50 mix with a mild (1/4) nutrient run through and let drain. Then leave until it starts to dry. Then run nutrient again. There’s no need to water unless the mix dries.

Hi Hoocho, Just information and better that it is in Australian or Occa. I found Sprouter is no longer sold by Bunnings (Typical Really) but is available in BigW and McGills directly. My question is Bunnings sell a 25L bag of 2:1 Perltight Vermicualte mix and mention it is recommended by Aquaponics (WA) my old stomping ground. Your considering 1:1. Is there any hard and fast rule for your method?

@@Hoocho Thanks for that, I double-checked and I only search for the "sprout", found it now "sprouter". Thanks for this.. A few questions.. I don't have access to that device and like the idea of reusing strawberry containers. a) Would it be a daily dip into nutrient solution to absorb into the mix? How long to leave it there? b) How long do you expcect the seeds to be in the device before moving to your domed trays? c) How long in the domed trays? d) Any lights involved? e). Most germination processes recommend seeds in the dark but yours are in the light? Comments on this? Thank you!
@Hoocho
@Hoocho 4 жыл бұрын
nada daily should be plenty. As soon as you see the first true leaves you can transfer them. I use lights to have more control over conditions. As for conventional wisdom, there’s nothing conventional about my techniques.

Hi hoocho. My 1st batch of seeds about 50% came through, but they have suffered under the light (eventually). I've just had to bin them unfortunately. Do you have a written guide with water amounts, light set up details etc? The sprouter didn't seem to drain the water once I seperated them under a dome in the tent?? Would love a newbs step by step guide so that I don't kill them again. Cheers for your work brah

@@Hoocho please can you let me know how you watered them, once you unstacked them and had them in a tray with the done on top? Also, how much you watered them please? I think I may have drowned them at that stage, as well as cooked them with the light being too close and too intense. The little dishes didn't drain out like they did when stacked together, so the roots were constantly soaked. I poured water straight in top into the dishes once a day.
