It doesn’t get much better than Ben E. King and The Drifters. The music of my youth. There is nothing like it. The young people just do not realise what great music this was and still is! So many parties and dances played these wonderful tracks. Such great groups , and harmonies have never been duplicated. ❤

Conjure-up the image of that "special someone" from long ago, from another time. Let your memory take you back... and there you are. Entwine your arms around your one-and-only, as you glide through the crowd... you're there again, and the Drifters are singing -- everything that was perfect is just so again!

The music of the 50s and early 60s was the best!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never heard 50s music until the 1970s. And I was hooked. Most music has been crap since 1967. Except for CCR.

Yes it is hard to find, when you search it usually gives you the Save the last Dance tune. There goes my baby was a good movie, I really like the movies that are set back in the 50's with the cars and music. Disney had a film called Susie Q and if you get a chance it has a ton of great Doo wop songs....bad news it was never released to VHS or DVD yet, but you tube has the movie in all its parts :)

Here's my DJ hubster hipster's story 'bout this song: He was sweeping the garage floor as part of his household chores, and there was a radio tuned to AM1160 WJJD in Chicago. Mom found him, sweeping forgotten, swayin' with the broomstick, the first time he heard "Stand By Me"

I cannot decide if I like this or Amor better, but Ben E. King sure could sing. Amazing. there's no doubt about that!
@egbertsouce38957 жыл бұрын
This is a nice, typical Drifters tune, but IMHO, it doesn't compare to "Amor", which is one of his great solo renditions, recorded after he drifted away from The Drifters.

On this day in 1959 {December 3rd} the Drifters performed "Dance With Me" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV weekday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time "Dance With Me" was at #15 on Billboard's Top 100, that would also be it's peak position on the chart, and it also spent fifteen weeks on the Top 100... It peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} on November 9th, 1959 on Billboard's Hot R&B Sides chart, the two records that kept it out of the top spot were "So Many Ways" by Brook Benton and "Don't You Know" by Della Reese... And on the same 'Bandstand' show they also performed "Dance With Me's" B-side, "(If You Cry)True Love, True Love", it reached #5 on the Hot R&B Sides chart and #33 on the Top 100 chart... Between 1954 and 1966 the NYC-based group had thirty-six Top 100 records; five made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Save the Last Dance for Me", for three weeks in 1960... Besides "Save the Last Dance for Me", their four other Top 10 records were "There Goes My Baby" {#2* for 1 week in 1959}, "Up On The Roof" {#5 in 1963}, "On Broadway" {#9 in 1963}, and "Under The Boardwalk" {#4 in 1964}... * The week "There Goes My Baby" peaked at #2, the #1 record for that week was "A Big Hunk O Love" by Elvis...
